    1. Good gambling rules (3:2 BJ and Single 0 Roulette etc)
    2. Drinks based on bartender/patron trust and not a points/voucher system
    3. Equal credit for table game players (i.e. not what Cosmo does)
    4. Equal numbers of high-end and casual dining options
    5. Free parking
    6. Every room has a decent sized bathroom
    7. A large pool(s) with comfy loungers, affordable drinks, etc.
    8. The structure of the Cosmo (built upwards) so that it minimises the amount of walking one has to do.
    9. A tram link to other resorts.

That’s just off the top of my head, if I really thought about it there would be other points.

SciFi themed resort, over the top. 10,000 rooms, several towers, each with their own speciality "I see you'll be staying in the Star Trek tower...". Clint Howard will be there opening night serving guests Tranya, it will be orange like the original and have plenty of booze in it. If Shatner is still alive he'll cut the ribbon, if not maybe Luke Skywalker gets the honors. Several casinos with some being lower key. One of the bars will be like the Star Wars cantina, cocktail waitresses will be dressed like those hot aliens Kirk used to make out with. It will be a nerds paradise for this overgrown nerd. No kids! If you're under 21 you'll need fake ID!

I agree with everything Ken said. The DI just felt different than every other place on the strip. It oozed class. When you walked through the doors it felt like you were walking onto the set of a James Bond movie. It felt more like a temple with gambling than a fancy, yet cheesy gambling joint like Caesars. I like Wynn and Cosmo and all of the uber-nice hotels we have today, but for me, none of them quite generate the feeling I always got when I stepped through the doors of the Desert Inn.

I've actually long thought that a Canada-themed resort would be interesting to have in Vegas. If The STRAT was ever to go under, this would be the perfect structure to create that in, since their tower could easily be re-branded to be a re-make of the CN tower.

Some theme elements to the resort...

    - A great big Tim Hortons coffee shop
    - Dedicated Bloody Caesar bar... also serving Canadian beers like Molson and Labatt
    - Shopping concourse with a Roots store and a maple syrup boutique
    - A miniature/satellite Hockey Hall of Fame like the one in Toronto; which I suspect would be of interest to Vegas locals (aside from just tourists) now that they have a hockey team
    - All security guards dressed in an RCMP "mountie" style uniform
    - A residency show by Russell Peters, or another famous Canadian entertainer. Perhaps the CBC could also license Royal Canadian Air Farce for a sketch comedy show.
    - Lobby or some other prominent place would have a small-scale replica of Niagara Falls

Gaming-wise, I can't imagine doing too much differently than your average off-strip joint in terms of game selection. As a matter of ethics, I would not offer cheque cashing services or have any ATMs on property. Perhaps that might hurt my bottom line, but that would be non-negotiable for me.

That's awesome! I'd check it out for sure as Baker is my pit stop on my way to Vegas, gas up at the Shell Station on the south end of Baker - then head up Baker Blvd and make a right back to the freeway right in front of The Worlds Biggest Thermometer! A sight to see!

I think if someone took the High Limit room at Aria, put it in the Montage Laguna Beach, and added a dozen full pay video poker machines, that would work for me.

MGM paid my wife to be apart of a focus group a couple years back. Cash payment was >$100 and she went to Aria meeting rooms with executives and a small focus group. They broke into teams and designed the “resorts of the future”.

She said it was an awesome experience. They discussed everything from ultra lounges to secret spaces to gambling odds.

This would be incredibly easy to offer. If they could do it in 1954, they sure as hell could do it now!

You can make the perfect resort by picking up the best bits from round the valley and sticking them together. Of course which best bit you rip out of its home and install in your resort is a matter of opinion.....

    Rooms like Palazzo
Immaculate public areas like The Wynn
A great classy adults pool area like Encore
A great fun family pool area like MGM...
... but with a wave area like Mandalay Bay
80% sucky 6/5 BJ and rubbish paytables that the suckers and drunks can play so you the place can make a profit and stay open....
.... but 20% with 3/2 BJ and Full-Pay VP at limits from 0.25 up so that if you care you can find it and play it.
A players club that is useful to international visitors - doesn't ignore us and has non-expiring points [can't think of a perfect example]
A nice out-front feature; like Bellagio Fountains - with views of it from most rooms
An awesome sportsbook like Circa (hopefully)
A great poker room like Bellagio
    A nice top-end steakhouse like CUT/SW
    A nice traditional mid-end steakhouse like Circus-Circus/Andiamo
A great old-school 24-hr diner like the Peppermill
A great pizza place like Pizza Rock
    A great buffet like Caesars/Wynn/M
A great bar with its own brews and full-pay VP like Boars Head
Crazy random s**t like urinating on the Berlin Wall at MSS.
A friendly chilled-out clientele like the Hawaians at the Cal
A great ice-cream stall like Lapperts at The Cal
A shopping district with cool public areas and loads or restaurant options like Venetian
    Free parking like Treasure Island
A great non-gambling funzone like The Pinball Hall Of Fame
    A cinema and bowling
An arena that hosts top-notch boxing like MGM
An enjoyable cirque show like Love or MJ One.

Probably missed a few things, but that would be one hell of a place.

Jumping in with MY Mega Resort and It won’t bother me if it’s not to everyone’s taste, there are plenty of other resorts to choose from if you don’t like mine

I haven’t named it yet

    1) Totally non smoking casino resort with 3 towers (2000 rooms per tower)
    2) Luxurious soundproof rooms totally remote controlled, large spa like bath, top tier amenities, panoramic views, floor to ceiling windows with blackout shades, terrace, fridge, coffeemakers and bottled water daily.
    3) Non themed resort with park like driveway, two story grand entry of ample size with well staffed check in lobby and comfortable seating areas throughout, tree lined park with ponds and seating areas.
    4) Two ginormous floors of gaming with lots of slots and ample space in the gaming areas - glass balconies and railings all around to view the action on both floors, elegant decor, chandeliers galore, wide sweeping staircase, plenty of elevators, soft lighting, quiet background music, good acoustics, comfortable ergonomic chairs.
    5) Themed pools with lazy river, slides, waterfalls, plus separate pools for adults only, spas, gym, glass enclosed conservatory, botanical gardens, rooftop terrace dining and bar, relaxation lounges
    6) Multiples of bodacious fast, casual, and fine dining choices
    7) Shopping and drugsrore
    8) A cirque show, standup comedy, rotating headliners, small and large music venues, karaoke, movie theatre, piano bar,
    9) Free parking, resort fees not to exceed 5% of the room cost and no fee for comped guests.
    10) good odds on all gaming, including slots :D

    See you there

I love your post, but for an unexpected reason. From start to finish, you've described everything about Vegas that makes it great. This is seriously just about the best summary I've ever read and I wanted to compliment you on doing such a good job at it.

While I realize that the goal of your post, in the spirit of this thread, is to describe what would be ideal for one resort... I feel like part of the reason why Vegas is so great is because you find all of these things in different places and under different ownership. As in, this great resort you've described already exists... but in different pieces... and it's up to us to do our research and our planning to piece together a trip that works for each of us.

At the surface, I agree that having all of these things in one resort would be awesome. But that gets me to thinking of all of the things you wouldn't get by having it all in one resort. For instance, people-watching in public areas... interesting buskers on the streets... having to go outside which can be a nice break from the casino action. I can't say I'd trade any of that for the simplicity of one resort... but that's just me :)

Cosmopolitan is pretty close to the ideal resort for me. Not too snotty and a fair mix of the machines I like. Best drink service I’ve ever experienced; I still cannot believe the quality of the drinks I get on the floor.

I don’t like the way they remodeled the rooms to make them more muted. I prefer the more colorful themes, so bring back the colors and velvet!

If they added a vintage slot room like in the D, coffee in the room or on the guest room common areas like i hear they have at the Cromwell, occasional live music on the casino floor, and added a poker room, then it would be unbeatable! For me anyway!
