What's the longest Vegas trip you can do only bringing the underseat personal item?

I've been booking super seat saver style tickets that only allow for a personal underseat item and charge extra for anything else. I'm normally booking 3-4 holiday or extended holiday weekends but just wondering if anyone has or plans on booking longer than that with only a small back pack

I figure I could do four-ish nights on that kind of capacity. I've done three nights on "personal item only" type fares without issue, and could probably push it to four nights.

Anything longer, you're way better off just paying for the extra bag allowance, IMO. I think it costs $30-ish for a carry-on bag on these types of airlines, so $60 roundtrip. Even if you're going for five nights (six days), that's $10 per day to have a bunch of extra room, PLUS the personal item you'd have been allowed anyhow.

At a minimum, I could do an afternoon. I might even be able to make it to dinnertime.

I bring 3 pairs of shoes for one day so that automatically puts me over. I could make it work if I needed to, though. One backpack could fit several socks, shirts, and things.

My next trip is 7 days with only an under-seat bag. I've done it once before. 7 underwear, 7 socks, 7 t-shirts, one button down shirt, LVA and AGC. I also have another button down shirt I wear on the plane. I use them over my t-shirts like wearing a sweater.

I’ve done a few three night trips with just the personal item. I usually change my outfit twice a day. I just bring versatile stuff. I’m sure I could do 4-5 nights easy.

4 nights is my max but could easily double that because I wear shorts or pants multiple days. Because when you're in a smoky casino does it really matter? :D

That's our standard load for 4 days, could stretch that to 6 or so without much trouble.

Underseat only - that could be a stretch, but could do 4 days I am sure. Hard to say as I travel with a CPAP.

We have been doing Carryon only for the past 4 years, even with CPAP. Two week cruise in Europe - no problem. Three week round the world.. tight but okay. 5 nights in Vegas -easy stuff.

My wife fought it at first but now is 110% onboard and loves it.

    Zero.

    I can't remember the last time I didn't check, excluding a day-trip.

Not a chance. How could any “girly girl” do it? No hairspray? Perfume? Facial wash? Toner?
It makes my heart sick to even remember the time I inadvertently threw a can of my dry hairspray in my carry on and had to toss is at security.

I respect the value of saving a dollar as much as the next guy but this idea seems ill advised when one weighs savings vs benefits of clothing options. However, to your question, I have had friends do a backpack under the seat for a three day weekend. I am unaware of your financial situation so please don't feel slighted when I tell you the two friends that did it are two of the very cheapest people I know. Having said that, it looked pretty liberating to have everything in a little backpack over your shoulder.

    No idea.

I think two days would be my limit...fly in one, out the next. My wife? Maybe a day trip. She needs shoes!

I could never get by with just a personal item.

I do regularly cheat on the personal item, however. I'll put my everyday purse (which is not small) and other items in tote bag and use that as my so-called personal item. I've never been questioned about it, even when I stuff it in the overhead.

I have done 8 nights on several occasions. I will admit, it takes some pushing to get the full backpack under the seat. This is flying SWA. I have heard other discount carriers might be more size restrictive with personal items.

I have a small backpack that could fit under the seat. I have done five nights in Atlantic City with it, and this includes bringing my stuffed dog with me. I could probably do two weeks with it. Or two months by simply doing laundry in the sink. You just kind of have to bring only necessity items, no luxury items. You would also have to consider if you would end up spending more on toiletries than on the baggage fee. Everything comes in trial sizes, but sometimes purchasing the trial sizes costs more than a carry on. I bought myself a Kiehls advent calendar for Christmas so I have tons of tiny containers full of expensive stuff, allowing me to bring it all with me. But that calendar was like $90.
