Why does the Luxor get a bad rap?

I know some of us are fans of the Luxor, many are not. I stayed at a Tower Room this past summer, and thought it was really nice, like, legitimately nice. In addition, friendly staff, good eating options. The group of friends I go with think it's a joke, along with a few others on this board. Maybe it's the Pyramid rooms people don't enjoy?

I stayed there once years back, did not like the setup and the rooms were very dated and honestly pretty gross. I know they updated most(?) of the rooms and I hear decent things about them, I would give them another shot in the future if other mlife properties won’t give me any good offers

I stayed there a few years back in a pyramid queen facing the airport. It was a very nice room. The only thing that was annoying was the long walk around the corridor to the far side rooms.

It was not a bad place to stay or play. I certainly liked it better than the Excalibur.

The only thing that I thought was a negative was that they should warn you that the electronic key system MAY (which means will) go down, and that you SHOULD get a "real" key at your earliest convenience.

Otherwise, sure the rooms are dated, but who like to pay BIG bucks to sit in the room and look at the furnishings? (I know, that's why they have Aria) For me, a room is just a place to lay my head.

Interesting, my key didn't work at one point, but that happens every other trip. What is a "real" key?

A standard card key. They have that system that use can use your smart phone to open your door.

Rooms are just fine and as his been mentioned I spend very little time there anyway. Sleep, shower, relax a bit and off you go again. The room I had last time I was there and it was in the pyramid was clean and comfortable. I don't need to be in the lap of luxury. As for the casino, it's pretty much the same as any other. Seen one, seen them all, that's for sure.

Completely agree East Coast. I think Luxur's tower Reno is one of THE best I've seen anywhere, and I can't believe they haven't marketed more aggressively.

We stay at Aria, Cosmo and MB as our home bases, and the Luxor Tower Suite is still one of my favorite rooms, and a great bargain if you're paying for a room and want something luxurious withough being over the top on price. (Aria and Cosmo are our favorite, but on a longer trip, sometimes I like to have a more low-keyed option on worrying about coin-in, but I still want a beautiful room, thus MB and Luxor.)

The only thing that makes me shy from Luxor is they don't have cameras in the halls or a security measure (Like scanning key cards) to limit who can go to the rooms. If it weren't for this, we'd have FOUR homebases.

I agree wholeheartedly, Luxor is a bit of a hidden gem. We liked it much more than some of the mid-tier Mlife hotels!

I haven't stayed there for a few years, so my opnions may be dated, but I found multiple reasons not to stay there: the room was below average with dated furnishings and decor, public areas that were not very clean, bad dining options (really only one restaurant there I would still eat at), annoying advertisements slipped under the door to the room every day, extremely long walks to the tower rooms, high limit area that often did not have tables open 24 hours a day, long and slow checkin lines, and all the de-theming making it the place less interesting

I've stayed twice, once in a tower room (loved it) once in a pyramid room (meh). My problem is the casino. I'm afraid of heights. Those open balcony hallways are too much for me, both when I'm on them I have to walk with my arm against the far wall and when I'm below in the casino all I can think of is someone jumping over the ledge to commit suicide and landing on top of me...so I'm constantly looking up and being unnerved thinking about myself up there. It's a horrible place.

I heard that lots of depressed people took a dive over those balconies...

Bad rap? People here diss Bellagio and some think a closet downtown is most bueno. Different strokes.

I like the tower rooms. I'm just not a fan of the casino and the food offerings aren't all that great, though we are out and about most Vegas trips so never consigned to one hotel or one ownership group for eats. The bottom line for us is simply that there are many more options that interest us.

Oh, I also think the attempted de-theming was silly.

I stayed in a pyramid room about a year ago and had no problem with the room other than a little overheating from the afternoon sun. I have always had a problem with their casino layout and I still can’t navigate it without memorizing landmarks. I think they might have taken a few hits about trying to ‘de-theme’ the property, but I don’t pay much attention to decorations anyway. It may suffer some identity problems from being bookended by the clearly upscale Mandalay Bay and the family/value oriented Excalibur.

Luxor is on my bucket list of places to stay in Vegas. It just isn't on the top of my list. Maybe one day. If it never happens, then I'm okay with that too. I do think the novelty of the slanted building and the hallways looking directly down into the casino/main area is pretty cool.

I've only stayed in the tower rooms and I have really enjoyed staying there. The renovated tower rooms are nice. They are close to the pool also, which I appreciate.
I really like the pool area at Luxor. There are a couple solid casual food & bev offerings (Diablos, Public House, etc) but personally I tend to float elsewhere for most meals.
The Luxor's connection to Mandalay Bay and the shops/restaurants along the way is nice, along with the opposite end to Excalibur. You have your choice of scenery close by.
Personally, I enjoy experiencing all of the different environments that Vegas has to offer (a couple high end, a couple "dives", new and old). I guess Luxor serves as sort of a happy medium to me.
Overall, I've enjoyed Luxor and they've treated me well there. It serves me well as a "home base" during my crazy Vegas adventures!

FWIW, if it helps, there is a level between the casino and those balcony hallways. You can see those hallways pretty clearly form the mezzanine level, but inside the casino, you can't see them
