I've stayed here, it was a really nice room, but my view was literally the airport runway (not a whole lot you can do about that).
With this location, you can do so much more. Unlike Sahara, and "Strat" which will always be stuck in a rutt due to little foot traffic, I feel this property can blossom with the correct management.

When I eventually do stay @ Tropicana I want an airport view. Have to request it without sounding like some kind of terrorist.

VV dropped a thought that it may be Phil Ruffin. I don't see why Penn would want to sell off their only strip property unless they are planning on making a play for one of the CET ones when the merger goes through.

someone asked if it was phil and scott only said that he was spotted their recently, hes also been spotted at Ballys...while no doubt it very well could be him, I think hes gonna make a play for Ballys and as someone up top said Hard Rock, I think it will be them, few months back, scott said that the strip will have a tribe real soon

Penn is too cheap to really do much, much less quality. Having worked for them for seven years, I can say they will let it go just as Cesars did Rio. It’s a sad casino for sure.

I go there with some regularity because of the free parking. Especially on days I am going home, I can go to the Trop, park my car for free, and play for awhile, knowing how close I am to the airport.

Pro Tip: They have a locals only parking area surface lot near the back door. Very convenient, I haven't used it in a couple years I hope it's still there.

Edit: I used it with my Wisconsin plates and no one said I word. I was at the time a seasonal resident.

Hi had one that looked like I was at a far away terminal at the airport. The way my room was angled, with the lower floor, I would ONLY see the runway. It was actually pretty cool. Laying there in the morning, hungover watching planes take-off/land.

I spent many many hours in that pool as a kid. Prior to the Mirage opening it was the only "Resort Style" pool in Vegas. It had a water slide at one end (The Banzi Pipeline), waterfall, volleyball net, rafts for rent. I remember playing swim up blackjack with my dad when I was 19 or 20. My family spent a lot of nights at the Trop in the late 80's and throughout the 90's.

When i used to stay on the strip I like gambling in the trop. I thought the environment was good and not as loco as some of the other strip casinos.

I think they could do a clean sheet on the hotel towers without tearing them down. Blow out anything that isn't structural and start over. That's what Boyd is planning on a smaller scale with the old towers at Fremont if and when they build the new tower. Been watching the conversion of a 45 year old office tower to a hotel near where I live. It can be done, and when dealing with FAA issues, it may be the most effective option.

Build a new podium out to the corner on 3 levels so the pedestrian bridges open into the new casino, with lots of restaurant and lounge spaces above, including balcony spaces overlooking the strip. Tropicana has so much wasted outdoor space.

Also, return to a partial or fully retractable roof for the pool. I don't know why only Marquee has done any sort of winter pool dome. A warm, winter pool club should be a license to print money. Here in Wisconsin there are dozens of places with big indoor pool parks that do bank all winter. Some are family, some have swim up bars.

I'm a little bummed because my local is a Penn Nation and I've enjoyed comps there. I like the hotel because it is always calm and clean, the employees are friendly and responsive, and the pool is great. I don't mind the smaller casino. However, they pulled my favorite slots and the VP really sucks.

The dining is indeed lacking. Some rumors have Ruffin as a potential buyer. Given the restaurant situation at TI, it's unlikely he'd do much to improve dining.

One idea, they should consider is putting a Walgreens or CVS there. There isn't one on the far south strip and it could possibly help draw more people onto the property to at least check it out. Probably more so than another shopping arcade.

Just ask for an even numbered room in the Club Tower and there'll be no calls to the FBI.

I would not be surprised, it gives them the Strip asset they struck out on with the Echelon product.

    It makes sense.
Can't think any other chain wants to buy it.

    Oh really?

Actually, I would like to see this. Bring some more competition to the South Strip!
