    My Trip Report

I really enjoy reading all of your trip reports, so here, for your reading pleasure, is a description using both pictures and words of how my most recent Vegas trip went down.

My lovely wife and I have been making the trek to Vegas every year around Christmas time since 2004. Last year we stayed at the Cosmopolitan for the first time and fell in love with the place, so we decided to make it a tradition. Christmas at the Cosmo! We took the kids with us last year, but it’s just the two of us this time since our oldest is on the east coast with his girlfriend’s family this year. This was a quick two-night trip to spend some time together, relax, and unwind a bit. Other than a reservation at Lemongrass, no real plans were made beforehand.

    Last year's report here:

    Day One – Dec. 25th

We flew on Southwest as usual. Our flight out of Denver left on time and we were soon in the air, enjoying our first drinks of the trip. The flight was fairly uneventful, at least until we landed. While we were taxiing to the gate someone got up to use the restroom, which caused the pilot to stop the plane on the taxiway. The guy was in the bathroom for a good ten minutes with all of us just sitting there on the taxiway. I could see a long line of planes stopped behind us too. So after our ten minute delay we proceeded to the gate. Picked up the luggage from baggage claim and took a quick Lyft ride to the Cosmo. $17.82 + $7.00 tip.

Julia helped us pack, of course. Such a helpful creature.

First drinks! Bloody Mary for me, sparkling wine for her.

We got to the check-in desk around 1:30 pm and had no problem checking in early. We got an east-facing room on the 52nd floor of the Boulevard tower. Room 5281, a Terrace One Bedroom. No fountain view this time; I prefer the view, but my wife wanted to try a terrace on the sunny side of the building this year. It turned out to be pretty rainy throughout the trip anyhow, so we didn’t use the balcony much. I thought that the view we had was pretty great even without the fountain though, and I did spend some time out there, bundled up. After checking out the room and unpacking a bit, we went down to The Henry for lunch. I had the Short Rib Tater Tot Nachos, and my lovely wife had the Cobb Salad. I had an Elysian Space Dust IPA to drink and the wife had water. Both meals were delicious and way bigger servings than we could ever possibly finish. My wife brought her leftover salad back to the room.

    04.jpg 05.jpg 06.jpg 07.jpg 08.jpg 09.jpg 011.jpg 014.jpg 012.jpg 015.jpg 016.jpg 017.jpg 018.jpg 019.jpg 020.jpg 021.jpg 022xx.jpg 023.jpg

After lunch I decided to check out a dispensary. There isn’t much novelty factor for me since it’s legal in our state and I brought some edibles from home, but I wanted something to smoke too, so I ordered a Lyft to take me over to the Reef Dispensary. On the way over the driver talked me into checking out Planet 13 instead, and I’m glad he did. $10.62 + $7.00 tip. I have been to Reef once before and Planet 13 turned out to be a much nicer experience. I really like the way the place is set up. After a little browsing I found what I wanted: seven grams of “Skunkberry” and a package of rolling papers. I thought that the quality was very high and the price fair. After a quick checkout process I was back in the same Lyft that brought me to Planet 13, headed to the Cosmopolitan again. $8.70 + $5.00 tip. I found the flower to be very tasty and smooth smoking. Plenty potent too.

    023a.jpg 023b.jpg 023c.jpg

Once back at the Cosmo I found my wife and we stopped in the Vitals store on the first floor to pick up some beverages for the room. I got some 16-ounce cans of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and the lovely wife got a bottle of white wine. Very overpriced, but we paid for convenience since we didn’t feel like going out to CVS or the ABC store. Back in the room, we relaxed for a bit and enjoyed some drinks. We had a 7:30pm reservation at Lemongrass, but after our huge-ass late lunch at The Henry and drinking all afternoon, I didn’t think we would be ready for a big dinner that early. So I cancelled the reservation and rescheduled for the next night. We ended up spending the entire evening in the room, filling up that nice soaking tub and enjoying drinks and each other. At some point we realized that we were both pretty tipsy and hadn’t eaten since the Henry, so we decided to head downstairs and get some slices of Secret Pizza. Holy cow, the line was long at 10:30pm on Christmas night! I didn’t want to wait in the line, and all of the Block 16 stuff was already closing up, so we wandered around the casino for a bit and then headed back to the room to get some late night snacks from room service and finish the left over Cobb salad instead. Along with the salad, we had some spinach-artichoke dip, french fries, and chicken soup. It was all pretty good and really hit the spot after not eating for so many hours. It was well after midnight when the food arrived, and we crashed shortly after eating.

    025.jpg 025a.jpg

Like I have mentioned in previous reports, my wife isn’t a gambler and I was mostly looking forward to spending time with her on this trip, so I ended up not gambling at all on the first day. Not a big deal since I’m paying for the room and not really looking for comps here. Treasure Island takes good care of me in that regard, which is where I stay on my solo trips to Vegas.

    Day Two – Dec. 26th

We woke up pretty early, but were slow getting started. Once we did get moving, we went down to The Henry for breakfast. There was a 45-minute wait for a table, so I gave them my number and we went to the casino to kill some time. I sat down at a Lord of the Rings slot, and for the first time in more than 15 trips to Vegas together my lovely wife sat down at the machine next to me and watched me play! I put in a twenty and was goofing around, betting around a dollar a spin. I triggered the bonus feature a few times and after around 40 minutes cashed out for $24. It took almost an hour to get our table at The Henry, but it was worth the wait. I had steak and eggs, and the lovely wife had The Henry Breakfast. The steak was fantastic for a breakfast steak and was cooked perfectly. Some of the best steak and eggs anywhere. I had a Pepsi and did not start my day out drinking, like my wife did with a Mimosa.

    Day Two Continued...

After breakfast we walked over to check out the Shops at Crystal’s and then on to Aria. My wife loves to browse the Hermes store. Neither of us had ever been to Aria before, so we wandered around for a while, just checking the place out and taking note of the location of Lemongrass for our reservation later. After exploring Aria we decided to take a Lyft to the Fashion Show mall to check out some after Christmas sales. $9.50 + $5.00 tip. We found many good deals, but didn’t end up spending much money. My lovely wife did buy some very nice leather gloves for a great price though. After wandering around the mall for a few hours, we walked in the rain over to TI, where we made a quick loop around the casino. I had $50 in “no stay” free play here, but I forgot my player’s card and the line at the player’s club desk was terribly long. I didn’t want to make my lovely wife wait, so we decided to just Lyft back to the Cosmo. $7.61 + $5.00 tip. Very talkative driver--this guy loved Vegas and talking about it.

Back at the Cosmo, my wife decided to relax in the room for a bit, and I hit the casino for some blackjack and Top Dollar slots. I bought in for $300 at a $25 blackjack table, but called it quits after I took a beat down on the first three hands. Seriously, the dealer had 20, 20, and 19. Ugh! I did alright on Top Dollar with a bunch of small hits and one nice $50 win. I played until it was time to get ready for dinner.

    046.jpg 047.jpg 048.jpg 049.jpg 050.jpg

We had a brisk walk across the bridge to Crystal’s in the cold rain. We were headed back to Aria for our 7:30pm reservation at Lemongrass. Dinner was fantastic! We both loved it and will be back for sure. We shared some BBQ pork buns and Thai style chicken wings as appetizers. I had the Black Pepper Udon and the lovely wife had Pa Nang Curry with Ribeye Steak. I didn’t care much for the pork buns, but my wife enjoyed them. Everything else was excellent. We both really liked the wings, and my wife typically isn’t a fan of wings. Fucking delicious! I had a couple of Sapporos and my wife had some sparkling wine. The service was excellent and the prices seemed reasonable too.

    034.jpg 035.jpg 036.jpg 037.jpg 038.jpg 039.jpg 040.jpg 041.jpg

After dinner we had a slow walk back to Cosmo, where we wandered around for a bit, just people-watching and checking things out. Like the Art-O-Mat machines--my wife loves them! After making her second Art-O-Mat purchase, she decided to head up to the room to relax. I went off to play slots again. More Top Dollar. I wasn’t doing well, though, mostly losing. After this assault on my bankroll, I was relieved when my lovely wife rejoined me in the casino, wanting to find some dessert. We headed up to the Milk Bar. It was almost midnight, but they were still open. She got a Chocolate Birthday Cake Milkshake. Although she enjoyed it, she said it was kind of weird at the same time with the chunks of cake, and she probably wouldn’t get one that fancy again. We hung out by the Chandelier Bar and had a couple more drinks before calling it a night and heading up to bed.

    041a.jpg 042.jpg 043.jpg 044.jpg 051.jpg 052.jpg 053.jpg 054.jpg 055.jpg 056.jpg

    Day Three – Dec. 27th

Woke up just in time to pack up and check out at noon. Wife got a coffee and we shared an almond croissant from Va Bene and then stopped at the checkout desk before ordering a Lyft to the airport. $12.15 + $7.00 tip. Got through security in no time at all and had a few drinks and lunch at Sammy’s Bar while waiting for our flight to board. Flight left right on schedule at 2:25, and everything went smoothly on the way home.

    057.jpg

I didn’t get to all the restaurants that I wanted to. Drinking all day on the first day kind of messed up the food plans. I also didn’t get to gamble as much as I wanted to, though fortunately I brought most of my bankroll home. I did have a fantastic time hanging out with my wife. I did really enjoy the food I ate. I did have fun gambling, other than the aborted blackjack session. I cannot wait to get back. Next solo trip is already booked for April with two free nights at Treasure Island, no resort fees, and $150 in free play.

Thanks for the report and awesome pics. Does the wife always flip you off when you take her pic? Mine does the same thing. The trick is to get a pic without the bird. Stealth.

We were at Cosmo from the 22nd to 27th; it will be our new Christmas tradition too.

Sounds like the two of you enjoyed a nice relaxing Christmas together :)

Sure! Does that seem excessive to you? The last thing I'd want to do is make two trips to the dispensary on such a short holiday getaway. :hmmm:

Thanks for the kind words. Not always, but it seems like it is getting more frequent. It's tough to be stealthy with a woman that has known you for 25 years.

That's right, number one. I mean, who would even think anything else? :D

It's not that she hates having her picture taken, it's just that I take so damn many of them. :kill: Nobody wants their picture taken while eating a Cobb salad. It's not fair, because I'm the one that doesn't like having my picture taken. As a result, I get the finger quite a bit. I assure you there are plenty without, those are not as fun to post though.
