    My Trip Report

    Greetings!
This year we did Atlantic City a little differently. Usually it's myself, my sisters, and my parents. This year my parents didn't want to leave their new kittens so my sister hosted Thanksgiving and then just the sisters went to Atlantic City for a couple of nights.

I'm actually surprised we made it. Cat drama! My other sister - her old lady cat lost her entire mind and regressed to a dangerously feral state on Thanksgiving. As of Friday my sister still could not get into her apartment.

This is the aftermath of my sister, mmy other sister, and b-i-l trying to contain the cat. Unfortunately on Friday my sister had no choice but to call the city to come out, catch her, and take her. Soooo yeah we didn't end up leaving for Atlantic City until after 4 and my poor sister was alternately exhausted and crying at any given time.

We left from my parents where I was staying and A drove us to AC. We opted for Resorts this year, in part because of its proximity to Hard Rock where we spent a lot of time last year.

I'd booked a renovated regular room so we ended up in the Ocean Tower. Which was just fine for our purposes. Resorts isn't that big so not a whole lot of walking either way.

The first thing we did was go get new cards and play a little. What we actually meant to do was find food. We eventually made our way to Hard Rock after unsuccessfully trying to remember how to get there from inside. We ended up grabbing dinner from the bar menu at Council Oak Fish. Surprisingly reasonable.
I had Harvest Salad (or something having to do with fall), Manhattan, and after dinner Macallan 12. A had the crabcake (which she said was fabulous) and a Mule. C had the beet salad (also good), Manhattan, and an after dinner Glenfiddich 12.

A headed back to Resorts to rest up while C and I stayed behind with our drinks and shared a key lime pie. Poor thing needed to decompress a bit, understandably.

After dinner we got our new cards (one day we'll remember to actually bring them with us) and played for a while. We both came out about even and had some fun on the machines. There was a great group singing Motown type stuff, but too crowded to grab a seat and listen. Would've stayed a while, definitely.

C and I ended the night with gelato before heading back to Resorts. From the inside this time .

Next day we took a while getting out. C had been up at 4 watching her favorite K-pop group at an awards show. A headed to get breakfast and hit the pool. She has some mobility issues, so the pool/jacuzzi is good therapy.
C and I finally made it out and went to find breakfast. We ran into A who apparently had played a while and was just eating. She had a great looking breakfast from Ruby's that we unfortunately couldn't get as they quit serving it at noon. We ended up at Hard Rock at...Hard Rock (heh) since they do all day breakfast. Mimosas, eggs, bacon, chicken, and waffles were quickly dispatched.
    20191130_125034.jpg

C and I spent the rest of the day playing at Hard Rock. Then we headed to Ocean because I wanted to see something. A month or two ago, they sent an email that seemed to indicate I was going to be gold (2nd tier out of a billion) Oct 1. Which was odd because I knew I was blue (lowest) and hadn't played that much before. But I went to get a new card and yep it was gold. So was C's. OK then. If you say so.

So since we were at Ocean we decided to play there and enjoy their spotty ass drink service (which was still better than Resorts where I NEVER got a drink). My tonic was tasty...I assume there was gin in there somewhere. I surely couldn't tell. The Bloody Mary (extra olives plz) was far better and the mix was unusual - I really liked it.

By now we were hungry so arranged to meet A back at Resorts at Eastwinds. We went back to Resorts through Showboat/Hard Rock since it was all inside and we wanted to see how desolate Showboat was. It's pretty sad. We saw a grand total of 5 people though we only went as far as the boardwalk side which was minimally lit with a burger joint and a sad bar. They're not wasting electricity, that's for sure.

Back at Resorts, dinner turned into an early birthday dinner for C. Her birthday is the 6th so it kind of gets lost in the holiday shuffle. Five spice beef belly, Tsingtao, and green tea tiramisu for me. Beef noodles, Tsingtao, and coconut pudding for C. And chicken pad thai, Miami Vice, and cheesecake for A. C was happy and it was really cute. 20191130_171027.jpg

C was tired from her 4 a.m. wake up so we all headed back to the room after getting water and candy. Plus it was our last night so everyone wanted to be well-rested for the drive back. So of course we stayed up til 2. Whatever.

Next morning we did get moving in time for Ruby's. Worth it! Everyone had the corned beef hash.
20191201_100204.jpg After that we checked out and said bye to AC for another year.

We were back in Philly in 1.5 hr or so and I was dropped off at 30th Street to catch an Acela into DC instead of a regular train to New Carrollton. Damn things sell out fast for Thanksgiving travel. It was very people-y in that station. NBC 10 was there getting footage.

    20191201_121913.jpg

Train came on time I squeezed into a table on the train with other people who clearly didn't know each other, either, made it to DC and Metro cooperated and got me home in a timely manner. Even so, thank goodness I work from home today.

First of all, I am so sorry about the cat - your poor sister and that poor cat! Sad! I always enjoy your family trips ... this one sounded like you sisters had a good time... I was upgraded at Oceans for no reason and only for 3 months (I think) .. I couldn't keep my card upgraded since I rarely get there.. and its not my favorite casino (although their rooms are so nice) Thanks for sharing pics and details... glad you all had fun!

I wonder did your sister by chance get flowers or spray a new perfume? Something similar happened to my moms cat although not that bad, it only lasted a few minutes, and the trigger was fresh flowers.
Sometimes when the fragrance is too strong or unfamiliar- house cats get like that. The vet had explained to us.

Nope none of that. That cat has always hated anyone but my sister. We were wondering if there was some trigger that was a point of no return. In hindsight there were signs of behavioral changes my sister noticed the last 6 months or so, but nothing particularly obvious. My mom and I were in the apt the moment the cat went "off" but just figured she'd settle down and that would be it. Unfortunately she didn't come "back" even 36 hrs later - she got much much worse. It was so weird!

Yeah, the drink service at Ocean's has gotten WAY better than it used to be, but still not perfect. The system at CET, imo, is the best. You can order from your machine!

Love hearing about your forays with your sisters. So sorry to hear about your sister's cat. I'm a cat person and never heard of such a thing. Horrible and sad.
Love Ocean Casino. I play there after I've hit my CET 25,000 tier as the CET transfer status to LV is crucial in my opinion. Hard Rock has no 9/6 JoB. They can suck it! :p

I'm glad you still had a chance to go and enjoy some time with family, @bshowell. Thanks for the report and great pics.
    About your sister's kitty...

There's a possibility, being an older cat, she may have been developing dementia for some time and might have had a small stroke, or some chronic brain-related issue...enough for her to no longer recognize her environment or the people in it and she panicked, trying to get out of there.

My youngest sister had a cat who was attached to only her and aggressive to everyone else. In his later years, something similar happened and animal control had to be called.
So sorry your family had to go through this, along with your sister's feelings of loss over her cat (not to mention all the clean-up). Life is so weird sometimes.
Best wishes to you and yours.

@ardee That's pretty much what we think happened (according to Google). There's a type of cat dementia where they recognize nothing and kind of regress.

Thanks for another nice Trip Report, it’s always great to get together with one’s siblings. I recall that the older rooms at Resorts had big bathrooms, or is it the newer tower?

Somehow I was upgraded to Gold at Ocean and I am getting some freeplay and room comps. I also received a $5 food credit, so I used that at Rocco’s towards a slice of pizza, it was pretty good.

Sorry about your sisters cat @bshowell, I’m sure it was hard for her. Love your sister trips. Thanks for sharing.

I must say this key lime pie is awesome looking, was it as good as it looks? The green tea tiramisu looked interesting, something I’d like to try, but haven’t seen before.

I think Rendezvous has bigger bathrooms, but the rooms in Rendezvous haven't been renovated yet. So we chose renovated over space. I wonder if Ocean has revamped their tiers?

It was very good! Not too sweet and a nice shareable size. Plus it was pretty. The green tea tiramisu was interesting - it had the ladyfingers in the middle not all the way through and the "cream" was dense like cheesecake. I did like it, though.

I'm not sure if they revamped tiers, but my wife received a bump to Ocean Platinum card and she has no clue as to why she received it. So now we can get into the lounge with just $20 in comps. Only thing is, we need $20 in comps!! Since the new ownership group took control, Ocean seems to be increasing the entertainment and improving the comps, it's paying off as their revenue numbers are up.

@bshowell, you need to bring your sisters back for a summer trip. Sometimes the midweek room comps start on Sunday and the outdoor bars at Hard Rock, Borgata, Bally's, Golden Nugget are a blast.

PS, if you get back to Resorts, check out Breadsticks for breakfast. It's pretty basic, don't know if they have corned beef hash (my fave too), but if you get a window table, the views are wonderful.

Yep it was a great trip. So nice to see how busy it was, too, since Atlantic City's had some rather sparse years. Yeahhh poor thing, but couldn't have predicted THAT.
