He will wind up paying, though. He has or will have the money, and it is a large enough amount for Cosmo to go to some effort to collect it.

If a player stays relevant....he gets paid. Good or bad equals $$$$$$$

It’s funny when people take it personally....you’re not running the casino.

I think he’s doing a fantastic job marketing himself....

A year or two ago, I joined a baccarat table in a Calgary Casino where Evander and 4 of his teammates were playing. He had around $10k in chips betting around between $2k - 5k per hand and was able to run it up to $30k halfway through the session while I was at the table. I'm not a hockey fan so I didn't know who they were at first but I did ask if they were professional athletes and they said yes. I googled what hockey game was being played in Calgary that day and that's how I knew they played for the Sharks. I didn't even know who Evander was until that day and my first impression was that he was a self-centered person who had little to no regard to people around him. His team mates at the table were super nice and fun to play with but Evander was down right rude and disrespectful to the casino staff. By the time I left the table, Evander had lost what he had won earlier and had around $8k in chips left. He is an aggressive better and gets impatient if the cards are not dealt quickly. LOL.

That picture circulated a few years ago. Quite possible in 2012, but I think it was a couple years after that.

There is also a pic of him on that balcony doing pushups with a huge stack of money on his back.

2015 is probably the latest that those pics emerged because I recall he still played for the Winnipeg Jets at the time and a lot of hockey fans spewed vitriol towards him for these pics combined with the rumors of how poorly received he was received by his own teammates. It probably did become a larger story than what truthfully happened, but where there is smoke, there is fire.

EDIT: I looked it up, and he posted those pics to his instagram account in 2014.

@dankyone I thought that in Nevada if one didn’t pay their markers, the DA filed criminal charges. So I also believe he will pay-either that or evade the marshals the next time he comes to Vegas to play the Golden Knights

Hey, i'm a Sharks fan! lol gotta defend my guy. But honestly, I wasn't too sure how he was going to be when the Sharks acquired him, but he's done well with this group.

The gambling thing could be a concern, but we'll see how this issue plays out.

I'm wondering if the criminal action takes place after civil action (the casino suing the player) has failed... if so, the dudes potential legal fees will make him wish he had just paid off the markers to start...

Never underestimate a person's ability to blow a fortune. I don't know what he's already pulled in from that deal so far but it very well could be gone already.

After paying his taxes and paying his agent, you are talking about a dude who gambled a double digit percentage of his salary at a single casino in what appears to be a single month.

Who knows what the rest of his finances look like based on that. I bet he had a great time though. :drunk:

So you get a marker. You lose a marker. You leave the city. Without a detailed explanation could someone clarify. I thought to have credit (marker) you had to provide a bank account with summary of action and be open to access of your account so to be a good risk. And that was what I understood for 5 or 10k. Not 500.
    Yikes.

This! Happens too much that these guys get used to the lifestyle but do not realize they likely are not gonna earn that money after their peak time - which often ends up in fatal decisions on what to spend their money for and years later they find themselves in trouble.

Evander Kane is not Gordie Howe. People may have hated Howe on the ice but they respected him. Kane has no respect from other players.

    I'm not a Hockey follower
But I did see him play against The Phoenix Roadrunners ( WHA )
    in circa '76 - '77
    NOBODY touched him !!!!!!
The Roadrunners players knew he was THEIR PAYCHECK
    and .....still.....
Howe was throwing ELBOWS abusively in the corners !
I was laughing my ass off........I knew enough to understand what he was doing !
And I caught a puck ( backhand !....beer in other hand ! ) from center ice RIGHT in front of my GF's face.....
The crowd gave me an ovation for the catch !

Ahh, Old time hockey! ...hurt the other guys and they'll give you all the time and space you need to make plays and still respect you even though you tried to maim them.

Now you dive to get the penalty called. They'll stop obstructing you because the refs will call a penalty on them all the time.

This is not the type of man who has investment income. Will be broke within 2 years after retirement.
