    {hit play} As long as the economy remains strong and the demand for rooms is high, this will continue. {hit rewind}

Not sure I'd pay $40 total to stay at The Rio based on the room condition my previous two stays, and the likelihood maintenance will be kept at a bare minimum after the sale / leaseback transaction last month.

Maybe because of the press they are moving forward before it changes?

In reality, a very small percent of bills introduced ever get to the floor for a vote. That bill was introduced by TWO representatives.

The press really picked up on it, but in reality - nothing is going to happen anytime soon.

Seriously, is anyone really surprised by this? Vegas has been doing this for years now - one starts charging resort fees and the others sit back and wait to see if there is any negative impact. No? They all jump on board! One starts charging for parking, so the others all sit back and wait to see what happens. Nothing? "Whooooopie! Let's ALL charge for parking!!!!"

When two months passed without any noticeable drop in MGM revenue, CET apparently assumed it was safe to hike their own resort fees.

This was coming from the minute MGM did the same a few months ago.

The thing about NOBU is that I don't know anyone who has stayed there where the rooms were not comped and they were at least Diamond status with no resort fees. Is that one on the off chance that they get a sucker to pay those rates?

There are least two kinds of "suckers" that are paying them.

1 - those that just pay for rooms and resort fees on every visit - whether they gamble or not.
    and
2 - those that pay indirectly via donations in the casino (color me guilty!)

Its less of sting with CET since they make it pretty easy to obtain diamond and not pay the fee.

I think it is two fold:
1 - People hate Jim Murren and
2 - like mikel123 said, it is way easier to get Diamond status and get the fees waived than it is with MGM. Not to mention the comp rooms seems to be easier to get as well.

The bottom line is the resort fee scam totally works. People still feel like they're getting a deal when they get "comped" or cheap rooms (before resort fees). It's not until the resort fee itself becomes more than a similar hotel room in other cities that people will possibly start changing their plans on a grand scale.

If I get a "comped" room for three nights at Mirage and have to pay $45 or so a night for a resort fee with tax, I'm still getting a nice room in a nice hotel smack in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip - one of the preeminent vacation destinations in the world - for $45 a night. And it's even more enticing to most people because they feel like more of a High Roller than they are for getting "comped" rooms that they get to brag about. The hotels know this and are taking full advantage. I don't personally like it but I also get it and can't really blame them, as much as I hate to say it. I can't even get a room at the Motel 6 two miles from my house where few people have any reason to stay for $45 a night.

Since resort fees and subsequent increases have had zero impact on Vegas visitation rates, I would expect these fees to continue to climb upwards.

Resort fees didn't start gaining steam until after the last great recession. When the next one hits, the fees will probably roll back somewhat.

No necessarily. I wouldn’t assume the indignation is less just because of what you do or don’t see here. Many things influence if/ when someone stumbles on and posts in a thread.

I wish we were in a recession so they’d take those resort fees away.

I don't have to pay resort fees at CET. I do have to pay them at MGM.

probably a difference in tier levels. Most of the people in the MGM thread probably are not staying at MLIFE hotels anyway, they just like to bitch and complain about something that is in reality not affecting them because they are not staying there anyway

Since dummies keep going, they will continue to raise these fees.

Congratulations, clearly most of you don't mind paying these fees.
