    My Trip Report

    Who are ya?

Greetings fellow Vegas lovers. This will be trip #9 for me and my first as a VMB member. I’m grateful for the Trip Reports section of this board. You guys have made the long wait much more bearable. Cheers.

I made my first trek to Vegas around a decade ago for a friend’s bachelor party. We stayed and mostly played at the Venetian. We slept 8 to a room. An ATM machine tried to eat my debit card. My bankroll was rapidly consumed. I got food poisoning. I’m pretty sure I drunkenly left a blackjack table with money in play and never returned. Subsequent trips to Vegas have gone much better!

I’ve seen pretty much all of the strip in my previous visits with only a few downtown sessions sprinkled in. Home base for strip gambling has been Excalibur because of the constant availability of $5 craps. My trips have always been in groups but not this time. My first two days will be solo and then my homie D will join me for the weekend.

When I’m in Vegas, I gamble, drink and eat. I don’t go to clubs or shows. Perhaps one day I’ll expand my horizons… but not on this trip =]

    Where ya stayin?

I have historically concentrated my play at MLife properties and am staying 4 nights comped at Mandalay Bay with $50 in FreePlay thrown in. I have another $120 in comps from my mLife credit card.

    Where ya playin?

My intentions are to shift the vast majority of my play to downtown casinos. I don’t have a strong preference for where I’m committing my play and know that I’m running the risk of not being surgical enough in my choices to earn comps since there’s a vast array of player’s clubs amongst the downtown casinos. I’m leaning towards El Cortez (fond memories of cheap gambling and old school atmosphere in my lone previous visit) and the Golden Gate (highly talked of amongst craps players).

    Whatcha playin?

Craps and Pai Gow are my mainstays. If things are going well on the craps table I’d just assume stay there all day. When the table gets cold, it’s time to ‘drink and push’ at the Pai Gow table. Next up would be blackjack, though the lack of 3:2 strip games at my table minimum needs is another reason I’m trending downtown.

This time around I’m going to try some new things! Video Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold ‘em will find their way into the rotation. I find VP a bit boring but I know it’s a solid way to run through my free play. I’ve been playing a lot of UTH on wizardofodds and just love it. If I get up huge, I just might throw $100 down on Mississippi Stud but that game is quite the money sink.

    How’s that bankroll?

We’re clockin’ in at around $2,400, or $600/day, inclusive of tokes.

    You eatin?

Oh you know it! Burgers and Asian food are primarily what I’m after. The list of places I want to hit on this trip is currently too strip-focused. I need to line up a few more downtown spots so feel free to make suggestions. My current targets: Le Thai, Holsteins, Bavette’s, Best Friend, The Henry, Hattie B’s, The Smashed Pig.

    Plannin on meeting any VMBers?

Fo sho! Presuming I’m not keeled over from exhaustion, at the end of day 1 I’ll be heading over to the Cosmo for the VMB group meetup and slot pull being organized by @WelshBlonde. The headcount for that event seems to grow by the day so hopefully one of us can have a lucky pull to bring home some bacon for the VMB team. Perhaps I can catch some other VMBers downtown on Friday for some rolls of the dice.

    What’s this about DripDrop?

I learned of this wunderproduct on this very board! I ordered a bag of ‘em and was able to put a few to use this past weekend and it absolutely made a difference in my hydration the next morning. The flavor’s not bad either. I’ll be utilizing a DripDrop or two every day of the trip.

    So you’re relatively invincible. Awesome!

Naw man I got problems. My body, in ever-less-subtle ways, is trying to tell me to stop drinking so much alcohol. I’ve got a reflux thing now. If I’m drinking anything acidic, I need to make sure I throw some pills in there so I don’t choke to death on my next meal. I can’t session craft beers at all. My only chance of survival is very slow consumption of domestic swill. Ah yes, Coors Light is the life for me! DripDrop can solve the hydration element, which drastically reduces the hangover risk, but unfortunately it can’t cure my bum-ass stomach. So it goes. I will try my best to obey my body’s demands but it seems more likely I’ll screw up and spend half a day in misery in my hotel room at some point. Place your bets…

    How bout them Tigers?

How bout ‘em! They play FSU at 12:30p local time Saturday. I’ll likely be taking that game in at the Mandalay Bay book. Hopefully the game won’t be as close as our last one…

    How you gettin around?

The game plan is to zoom (ha) around on the RTC bus system. If my plane lands on time I appear to line up nicely with WAX to get me over to the strip and then I’ll take SDX for my trips to and from downtown. I lived in Chicago for many years and miss riding public transportation.

You’re gonna check in with us daily, right? Your audience has needs.

    [Homer slinking into bushes meme]

Presuming I survive the trip I can assure you there will be a full-throated update on all shenanigans when I return to Charlotte. Whether I update while I’m there will have a lot to do with my bankroll health and whether I can adapt to posting on my phone.

    Anything else?

This weekend is also The Summit for all my Vegas podcast homies. I’d love to meet Mark & Dr Mike from You Can Bet on That! I’ll keep an eye on their twitter feed and try to get a session with them wherever they land downtown.

    Ok then. Go Tigers.

Love the title and the start.
I've also just about hit the coors light age.
    It's not all bad,
    you don't get drunk,
    so you gamble better.

Good luck! Hope that the Drip-Drop works well! And sorry to hear you can't session craft beer...one of my favorite things to do in Vegas. [emoji12]

When I first read this pre-coffee, I thought it said "I don't go to clubs or shower" lol

Sounds very fun, I love the Wax bus and it's people. Have a great time.

My dripdrop is all packed, got a deal on everyone's most hated flavor: Watermelon, 1/2 the price of all the others...what do you want I am cheap!

There is a craps meet if you are interested, at GG Friday hosted by the hosts of the "Bettor Life" podcast and rumored to be attended by Tim and Dr Mike from "You can bet on that" pod if you are familiar...me and my dad plan to attend...can chat it up at the Cosmo slot pull meet and greet...

Safe travels and see ya soon!

Oh man I got the three-pack and watermelon was my favorite flavor of them all!

I'll definitely be ambling for the Fri craps meetups with the podcast dudes.

Today’s greatest accomplishment is that I haven’t forgotten my player’s card or a TITO since I started playing VP
