Hi all. So we've been back from Vegas now for about a week and I still have holds on my credit card from Mandalay Bay when we checked out on the first and the Wynn which we checked out the 4th. I called my credit card and they said they'll be there for 30 days unless I call the hotel and have them contact their bank?? Have you ever heard of anything? Generally hotel incidentals I've seen drop off after a few business days. Does that seem normal to have almost $1000 of hotel charges pending on my credit card for 30 days before they will finally drop off??

Mine have always been removed immediately after checkout.

Course I was not at Mandalay Bay or the Wynn.

Maybe certain hotels have different policies. :hmmm:

Technically takes 8 or so business days for staying at a new property. Generally much less than that. You'll be fine.

When I called citi Bank and the Wynn, both were pretty clueless so figured I'd check here. When my credit card told me 30 days I thought that seemed extremely weird

I have stayed at Wynn at least four times and within 3 business days or less holds are released from my amex.

I see these typically for up to and just a bit over a week. If it is a problem for you - call the hotel. They can and should remove them if you need the credit for personal use.

Just odd since every trip to Vegas before the transaction disappeared almost immediately

Did someone read off the debit card script instead?

Right? I'm hoping it doesn't take the 30 days for it to drop off. I have two pending from Mandalay Bay and 1 from Wynn. All for incidentals

I travel often. Credit card TEMP charges go away within a week... at least when I check. It really does not mean anything.

Are we talking DEBIT cards or CREDIT cards. Two totally different animals.

Please help me understand why anyone would call the bank to ask? Maybe I am missing something.

Credit card. It's been two weeks since I checked out of Mandalay Bay and still on my credit card as a pending transaction

To me it seems like if I charge something the hold releases and just the charge stays on at checkout.

It will go away - 99.999% sure.

Sometimes charges, even retail, will stay there for a few weeks.

I have never called anyone about it. Some cards by the way will alert you when the charge becomes a "real" charge. I have done that on my Amex with a charge that I knew should not be there and wanted to make sure it dropped off. They always have.

My charges usually drop off the evening after checkin. Only had longer a couple of times.

30 days is insanity and hopefully doesn't happen.

Everybody's getting all hung up on this phrase "30 days" from OP's bank, but I'm certain it was actually more like "up to 30 days".

Just seems like a reminder that we all need to be attuned to what it is OUR PERSONAL banks/CCs do, not others'. And then if there is a problem or concern, follow the lender's recommendations on how to take care of it. Advice gained here might -- might -- be useful if thinking about a switch, but at that moment in time ...

The Wynn hold I would expect to be off very soon. I sometimes see one 1 or two days after I have returned home but it disappears after that and sometimes it is gone as of the time I check out. It doesn't concern me but I do notice it as given that I stay at Encore for long stays, upon check in my Am Ex gets hit for $1500 ($150/day for incidentals x 10 days) and I get a a text alert given the amount.

There is no way Wynn would have a hold on your card for 30 days even if they have a "right" to do so. Can't speak to Mandalay Bay but I would expect the Wynn hold to be gone soon, if it hasn't happened already.

Still there today. 8 business days since I checked out of Mandalay Bay and 6 since I checked out of Wynn not counting the 4th of July or weekends. Frustrating to say the least

What did the hotels say when you contacted them?
