Wow great run after that bad start!

Bummer about Cosmo since that is a very nice place. But I would definitely be considering giving a long hiatus over this $150 cheapness.

Your theo might be a bit lower than they hoped this trip, but i think its better if they said "ok" and gave you a bit smaller marketing offer next trip. Like you say, $150 is pretty petty over the action you're willing to give.

I stayed at the Cosmo once and will probably not step foot in that casino again. I had a very nice room, and even though I had no history with them, I got a decent rate. There was a host here that was trying to poach players. I contacted him with a screenshot of my CET offer, and while he didn’t fully match it, got a rate of $1050 for 7 nights including resort fees and tax. Not bad for a balcony room. Had no luck there at all. If it wasn’t for winning at other casinos I would have lost my bankroll in a couple of days. So by day 3 I decided to not play much there. I probably lost a total of 2k there, go to check out, they take $20 off my bill for my play. I wasn’t upset about that too much, it was when I contacted to same host 6 months later to inquire about another stay, his response was based on your play we can’t offer you anything. I thought that was kind of rude, offer me something. I replied back, that I didn’t play much after 3 days because I wasn’t having luck in the casino, but otherwise i had a great stay. He never responded so I just booked a room at Paris.

I can’t understand why Vegas is letting the bean counters ruin what was once a great city to visit. From resort fees to paid parking, you’ve got to wonder what’s next, a fee to enter the casino?

    Sorry for the long rant.

Great win btw. You should consider other casinos for future trips. I think it was insulting not to just comp the whole thing. Especially at the level you play.

I don‘t want to offend you in any way, but with a 2k loss during 3 days and a pretty good rate for the room (which you mentioned already) I do not think you‘re too much on their radar. In the end the Cosmo is considered a tier1 property on strip and I doubt that level of play ( unless you generated very solid theo ) will get you too much at most properties. Probably much higher chance to get something good downtown if that‘s an option for you?

Especially not playing at all except first 3 days during a 7 day stay might have been a bad sign
to them - if you think about it, you got a new player with no history getting a decent rate, losing 2k and not playing for majority of his trip - not sure how ‚eager‘ to get that player a casino is gonna be.

In the end it is a business decision a host is doing - I don‘t find it rude not offering something if he sees no value in your past play.

Haha, no penthouse. I actually don't even know if they have one. I originally asked if I could stay in their 2 bedroom suite but they said no without paying $350 a night. I could only get the 1 bedroom suite comped up front. But I understood this as this was my first time staying here. Maybe after this visit, they will upgrade me.

I checked the win/loss records on at the D website. It shows that I won over $8000 from them with $86,000 worth of buy-ins. I hope this will help me for upgrades next time!

I keep thinking about how the D brings you over and for them as a high limit baccarat player. However probably half the time you tried to give them action the table was closed. You probably need to mention that to them.

I wish we could do a mixed emoticons. I LOVED this because you got back at Cosmo, had a great time with your friends and the photo from your room was breathtaking, but I wanted to do both a LOVE and a WOW because of the Cosmo craziness over $150 at your level of play. Really stupid.

Most important, congratulations on what was an amazing, winning, thrilling, fascinating and fun-filled trip!

One question is, if you don't mind my asking, what you tip the limo driver who takes you different places. I tip $40-$50 to the limo driver to and from the airport, and can get a limo during the trip but have never taken advantage of that perk so was curious about the tipping. Thanks and congrats again!

Agree 100%. They are losing so much action, from you alone let alone from other players too, because of when their tables open. You would think with Circa coming up the hours would be better.

I actually LOVED that limo; both the outside and how you said it was stocked inside. :)

I must be cheap... I usually give $20 to/from the airport or Strip. Would like to see others’ input too.

    And great trip (chip) report!!

I don't think $20 is too cheap. I know I over tip but, especially at the start of a trip, I feel like it is good karma! But, IMO $20 is totally fine.

This is an interesting topic. Their Hi-limit area in general doesn't appear to open until the afternoon. And I don't see anyone playing there until the evening and when there are people there, it's mostly blackjack. The day I arrived there was 1 guy playing with me for about an hour and then I later saw 2 guys playing for no more than 15 minutes. But that was it. I saw no one playing on the next day. I'll mention it the next time I go but I honestly don't want them to go out of the way to open a table, assign a pitboss there, and have me leave the table after only playing an hour or so.

I tip the limo driver $20 for each ride. I think this is a fair amount and they seem happy with it. I've tipped $40 once when he's taken a group of us where we were drinking and dancing around to the music inside the limo. I figured he deserved more to put up with our BS. LOL.

I've been asked this question about my play style and I basically do "hit and runs" each time I play. As you can see from my TR, I buy in for around $5000 usually and will run once I hit around 20% or more of my buy-in. So once I'm up around $1000 to $1200, I will leave to come back again later. This small accumulation over time lets me build up a win and the casino does track and enter the time I play. Ideally I'll play 30 mins to 1 hour each time i sit down but I do it often so that i can accumulate enough hours of play to warrant my comped stay. For this trip, the exception happened on my first night (the $30k color up) and the night I bought in at Cosmo for $20k. Those sessions were a lot longer than desired. If I sit at a table for too long at any one session, the casino edge will have enough time to bite away at me and I'll lose it all eventually. So I try to keep for sessions short for that very reason. The funny thing is I see people buy-in for $100 and starts betting $50 a hand. This person will not survive the variance and will easily lose that in two hands. Either that or they need to quit if they win one hand and lock up a 50% win.

WOW, that is incredibly unethical. The guy is basically getting his family a free (and very expensive) dinner on the casino's dime (and your dime if you consider the tip and the fact that the comp came out of your account). You really should have reported that host to his boss. I hope you at least have a new host now?

Not to deviate from the TR, but since the OP doesn't seem to mind, could you elaborate more on what you mean by using your comps on other players. If he is using your comps for anything except what you want, that might actually cross the line from extremely unethical to downright illegal.

Here is an example where a casino VP of player development was arrested and went to jail for skimming player's comps at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

    https://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/casino-thieves-steal-420k-mohegan-sun-slots-scam-article-1.2503014

The reason I ask is if the host was willing to be unethical in dealing with you, he may be willing to go a couple steps further like the VP from Mohegan Sun Poconos

To the OP: Awesome TR. It was a blast following it. Glad you won and had fun, that is the most important thing.

Congrats on your winning trip! Thanks for the news on the Cosmo host, this is very disappointing that they would let a good customer walk for a measly $150—it defies logic to me.

Having said that, I have been a Cosmo regular for a couple of years and do not have a host. However, I thoroughly enjoy the rooms, location, amenities and the overall outstanding customer service.

As a green chip BJ player, I can honestly say I have never done very well gambling-wise at the Cosmo (up a little some trips, down little more on others and downright terrible on my last visit in March). I really don’t expect a host but have given them at least 6 hours a day even through their mid-week surge minimum increases have no rhyme or reason as to timing. I also knew table games receive little to no attention, especially at my level but c’mon, a buffet once in a while would go a long way.

I’m also not one to judge all by the actions of a few but the pattern here with at least two Cosmo hosts is disturbing and to me is indicative of the over the top bean counting culture where common sense is thrown out the window for $150, not to mention Tee’s experiences. This pattern, coupled with the ho hum gambling return is leading me more and more to continue to stay at Cosmo but take my bankroll elsewhere and likely downtown during my October trip.

Congrats again on a great trip and outstanding trip report!

From how things were explained to me in the past - Host has x amount of overall discretionary comps to use as potential strategy to secure new players or maybe over-reward players they feel will be a "pay off" in the future etc. Sometimes how this is justified/done is by taking potential "back end" comps from somebody (usually someone who didn't charge to their room and could have) and use those for other purposes. Like when your host takes you out...it is really on your dime, but comes out of a pool fund, so to speak. I don't really have specifics on how things are exactly done at Cosmo, but I have a dear friend that has been a host for over 35 years in Reno. In fact, she has been my host there for almost 30 of those years. I discussed this situation with her. She said I should've reported it, but understood why I didn't want to get involved. I also don't want a reputation around town that I "took down" a host. It wouldn't make me a favorable player. Believe me, hosts across the board do talk.
