Talking to a member of my men’s group at church.

Him: where were you last week?

    Me: went on vacation

    Him: where?

    Me: Las Vegas

    Him: (silence)

Other guy: you get my money on the Brewers?

Another guy: you get my bet in on the cubs

    First guy walks away.

There is one in every crowd.

NVF: You're going to Vegas again? You just went 2 months ago?
    Me: Sure, why not?
    NVF: Isn't it expensive?
Me: I get free room, free flight, free food, and I take some money for entertainment. How much did you spend on your last golf vacation?
    NVF: Oh, about $3000.
Me: And once in a while (albeit not that often) I even have the chance to bring home more money than I brought. Does that ever happen on your vactaion?
    NVF: Uhhhhhhh
    Me: Nuf said.

Cold as Alaska! (Or in the case of this morning, Omaha!)

Hint: Where would Fats Domino go for a Real Vegas breakfast or lunch? :)

Jeesh you people must hang around some duds in real life. I have to make so many sports bets and $20 plays on slots for different people it can get overwhelming. And I live in the bible belt.

Never in 30 years of Vegas traveling has someone rolled their eyes, most are curious and want to try it out.

I'm calling BS on some of these stories

    Ah yes, Blueberry Hill.

Now I'm thinking of the tasty Italian Sub from Bootlegger's lunch menu. Minus the onions. But I digress.

Can't you just tell them to go to (or stay in) Mississippi now?

    Survey says ... ***DING!***

And actually, the Las Vegas naive very much includes those who currently reside there. Local co-workers and clients' folks seem to typically live in places such as Summerlin and Green Valley and such, and claim to never go to the Strip and always seem to prefer the usual suspect chain places to eat.

I think folks just generally have myopia when it comes to their 'hood.

I only tell the few that "get it" now.
A few of my family has gone to Vegas and they hated it.

    "Vegas is dirty/expensive/scary."
Live in your bubble then! (Karen)

    More Vegas for me then!
I used to try and convince people of the wonders of Vegas, but no more!
If they can't figure it out on their own, then Vegas really isn't right for them.

I get the impression that most of these "locals" are not originally from Las Vegas. In all fairness, I've learned about things such as Lucille's BBQ (is it still around?), the Elephant Bar (is it still around?) and that great Italian place on Horizon Ridge and {mumble} which begins with a V (Ventino's?) from local folks.

What's a Vegas "local," when you get down to it? Life-long or a few years, humans just don't seem to do a very good job of exploring their own "yard."

I could introduce you to some people who certainly will....
I know a lot of people who don't like or don't 'get' Vegas (hence this thread). So, sadly, I certainly can imagine that most of these stories are true.

Them: did you go to Vegas yet this year, get some sun?
Me: not yet, it's chilly in the desert this time of year.
Them: how do you afford that, it's gotta be expensive.
Me: I'm a diamond club member of the Las Vegas Advisor. It's a locals program.
Them: *looks at me with respect* how do you gamble all week without going broke?
Me: I look for smart games. Then I use a lot of gambling coupons that are profitable.
Them: I don't gamble, is there anything else to do there?
Me: yes there are tons of sights, shows, restaurants, clubs, outdoor stuff...
Them: are there any steak houses?
Me: yes, you can get a $10 steak or a $200 steak.
    Them: how about sports bars?
Me: yes, there is every kind of bar, club, and restaurant you can think of. There is a place where you can get a Cornish pasty, a place where you can get a Wisconsin fish fry or burgers/ fried cheese curds, you name it.
Them: cool! Sounds interesting, I would like to check it out sometime.
