On a side note, if this actual thread became the sticky, we'd probably need to change the title or hardly anyone would find it :)

I'm not sure this particular thread should be stickied, but if someone wants to write up a comprehensive guide to comps, I think it would make a great sticky.

Seems like there are too many variables, but I’m looking forward to reading whatever you come up with.

I don't think this thread should become the sticky. IF the "TIMSPEED tips" are as helpful as he says should become a sticky. Sonya will have to review and agree it is deserving as such.

Wanna bet? Lol (no pun intended)
I’ve literally made it my life for the past 10 years to learn this EXACT information.
I’m not going to lie that it takes MONEY,
And there is of course risk (it’s called gambling for a reason)
But that would also be the point of “sticky” post; so when/if someone got new information they could email a mod to edit it (so it’s always relevant)
Most people want you to buy their books or take their class or some other money making scheme..I’m wanting to give it to the world freely.

That’s what I mean...I’ll write a post to sticky..lock it so no replies are accepted, and if someone has more current info (passing the torch, so to speak) they can ask a mod to edit that certain part.
But I sincerely doubt any one on THIS forum put in more time learning the ins & outs of the casinos, than me. (Sad life, I know)

    I’m interested.

I’m also interested in why you quit. Especially since this is the first Super Bowl weekend in a long time I’m not in Las Vegas, and don’t care. I’m paying for rooms and going around my various hosts in the future. Gambling what I want, not playing, doing whatever I want.

Please post what you have learned. We all want to know. Maybe along with your post and some others, we can extract the good stuff, and THEN make a summarized sticky.

    Get us started, please.

    Knowledge is power.

Since you pronounce this with regularity, why don't you post five or six sure-fire and verifiable things and then let peer review here decide whether it needs to be sole-source and locked.

So you are telling me that if I said "Tim, I want to get 3 nights comped at Aria, with at least $200FP and at least $100RC... tell me exactly how much I need to gamble so I get this offer with in the next 3 months"... you could give me a straight answer? If that is the case, then why not build a spreadsheet for someone to enter their desired comps and it will split out the recipe...

I 100% believe that you know some tips and tricks, but I find it hard to believe you know EXACTLY how it all works to a level at which you can provide the optimal process of maximize comps.

I truly do hope you write it out, I enjoy reading that kind of stuff, and I guarantee I will pick up a few things from it.

Question for you Tim. If you really are quitting the gambol, then why do you have a count down timer for your next trip with a tagline "Back with a bundle (OF CASH!)"

Also, I'm of the opinion to not chase comps. If the room offers ever dry up, so be it.

With that being said, this is a gambling board, and the content would be relative. Post it and see where it goes. . .

I'm also interested. For what it's worth though Tim, I know you play primarily slots and craps so I think it would be more helpful if people who play other games would assist in this task as well.

I'm not suggesting I help but as someone who plays just blackjack, I think there's some probative value in having someone who plays primarily a certain game, and has legitimate knowledge of how comps for action with that game works, to help. For example, I know exactly how comps work with the action I consistently give for BJ, so it would be nice to see someone who knows more about the system than me provide something additional. I'm sure there's people with intricate knowledge for roulette, carny games, blackjack, etc. who can help you should this thing come to fruition.

Here is my one and only case study: about eight years ago I wanted to play $1000 through a five dollar VP machine. The only 9/6 jacks or better machine at this denomination Downtown was at Golden Nugget. I never played there, but I made an exception for this event. Based on that session I received offers of four room nights with three hundred dollars freeplay for one calendar year. I stayed there four separate times and played zero there except for the freeplay.

As to the YMMV: economy was different, tracking and computers are always improving, most places seem to re-evaluate every six months now, and I have no idea what my coin in was. My only current observation is that my low roller room comps are disappearing everywhere due to the improved economy and increasing hotel occupancy rates.

Give me some time to formally write up a sheet.
As far as absolutes, that I can’t give you (ie: what’s the exact breakdown to get $200 freeplay vs getting $300 freeplay), as the freeplay is a super muddy comp value.
However; for the rest, I can narrow it down pretty damn well. (Across all games, not just machines or table games)
The problem becomes; most of us have already shot ourself in the foot when it comes to casino comps, and once you’ve showed your hand, it’s hard to bluff AFTER.

It seems that you want to share with us what you know about the ins and outs of casinos and the comps they offer and how one can maximize these comps to their advantage.

That's great. And thank you for sharing.

What I'm curious about is why do you have to know what the general population thinks? If you want to share something, share it! Do you really need approval before you share something?

I know you have tons of valuable information. I couldn't help but think you're demanding to have a stickie before you disclose what you know.

Sorry, not meaning to offend but that's how I take your post.:peace:

@TIMSPEED ... If you do end up writing something up, please include the nearly-extinct (but not quite!) practice of discretionary "table comps" that one might get from a pit-critter for any number of various reasons, many of which have nothing to do with ADT.
The Stardust was famous for this... Once, many moons ago, my buddy & I missed our scheduled flight back to Houston, as we (but mostly my friend) got too caught up playing $25 blackjack at the 'Dust... the pit-boss overheard us talking about it... he came over & asked if we needed a room... (of course we did!) and he scribbled some stuff on a comp-slip & said to take it to the 'Invited Guest' check-in counter... turned out to be a two-story, pool-side suite!
Now, this was back in the early 90s, so I'm pretty sure he was simply basing the comp on what he saw & the fact that we'd already been there 3 nights on an offer.
Same kind of thing would happen (and still does, sometimes) with meal-comps & free cigarettes at the table... even at $5 tables.
Tipping the dealers? Check. Having fun & being sociable with other players as they join the table? Check. Making jokes & still having fun, even while getting one's ass kicked? Check.
That combination used to result in table meal-comps quite often...and these almost always included cocktails with the meal.

One of the things that I find kind-of sad is just how cold & impersonal the "comp systems" of today have largely become... Sure, there are some exceptions, but for the most part, it's all about ADT, "points", "tiers" & bankroll these days.
I miss the days when everybody's player's card was the same...and there were no 'tiers'...at least, not officially.

Oh, and I think that the "variables" that several have posted about here are things like a player's history, their relationship with their host, the frequency of their visits, their game(s) of choice, the average size of their party for most trips and any intangibles - 'positives' that the player brings to the property when he or she comes.
Awfully hard to put any 'fixed' data to those kinds of things.

I guess I should have clarified. I assumed (probably incorrectly) that people who were interested in comps were understanding of a number of the things you mentioned. I was more talking about people like myself who know that I play close to $7500 coin in per day vp with CET and close to $2500 coin in per day in slots. I understand that, thanks to my host, I will regularly get free rooms and if available a suite regardless of the day in AC. He will typically pick up food on the back end for myself and wife, maybe a little extra if friends come, but I have never had free play added and never had upfront F/B. If I knew that someone playing 10k VP and 5k slots was getting significantly more than me (free shows, up front f/b, better gifts etc) I would be able to make a logical decision with whether I increase my play or not.

I have found over my limited years of gambling (only 12 years) that the more information I know, the less wiggle room hosts have. Prior to my first vegas trip (and the finding of this board) I would pay for everything in AC and never knew what they thought of me as a player. As I learned how to track coin in, and what ADT meant and how it gets used, and how trips are evaluated, I used that information to get more for me. Before I had a host, when I would have to call the host on duty, I felt I was much better off when I would say "I stayed for 2 nights and played x through vp and y through slots along with 4 hours at tables what can you do for me".

I am very much looking forward to Tim's tips simply because it may also help me make a decision to take that play to somehwere other than CET when we go to LV.

I feel like table-side comps (is this the correct terminology?) have gone by the wayside in Vegas. Even a few years ago in both AC and Vegas, I could get buffet slips after a 4 hour blackjack session. That seems to be gone, with the "charge it to your room" mantra being given every time. While back end comps do certainly happen, and I've received them my last two trips more so than before (probably because I finally asked lol), I wish table side comps like a buffet or whatever would still be something that occurs as it gave this aura of a level of service that made you feel appreciated.

Anyway, like I mentioned above, if Tim has some sort of knowledge above and beyond what many of us have for our preferred game, then I don't see the downside. I'm also interested in maximizing my comps above and beyond what I already do, however, I'm doubtful there's something I'm missing to be honest.

Based on many stories shared, I would agree. Seen many reports of pit critter saying he would get buffet passes for a player, and then just take points out of their account.
