Well, I'm skipping Aria. I'm going to Resorts World Genting

Not necessarily defending my choices, but you did ask.

    1) mLife is my "secondary" player's club chain. I am about 10,000 short of renewing gold with mLife
    2) Aria is a very nice property to stay at, and I like to spoil myself once in awhile.
    3) I typically only stay at mLife when it's a "requirement", such as it is during HGS/GGWU

As you can see, I did reconsider.

Going on a gambling trip is quite different than a national park or Mount Rushmore. He obviously loves the USA - or else he wouldn’t go to Vegas 726,836 times.

The trip is 8 days long, and I've broken it down to "eliminate" much of the wait.

I know, TMI to follow, but hopefully, this will give someone an idea of how to plan an Asia trip.

    First day
    9:20PM PDT - 10:52PM SFO-LAX
12:55AM (second day) - 6:55AM (third day) LAX-HKG (Hong Kong)
    11:45AM (third day)-15:40PM (third day) - HKG-KUL (Kuala Lumpur)
Resorts World Genting - Third day
Resorts World Genting - Fourth day
Resorts World Genting - Fifth day
    13:35 fifth day - 17:45 - fifth day KUL-HKG
Bus or Ferry to Holiday Inn, Macau
Macau or Hong Kong - fifth day
Macau or Hong Kong - sixth day
Macau or Hong Kong - seventh day
Macau or Hong Kong - eighth day
    6:30PM eighth day - 4:40PM eighth day HKG-LAX
    7:35PM eighth day - 9:03PM (LAX-SFO)

I will be taking full use of American Express Centurion lounges whenever and wherever I can. I don't drink, but I am kind of a "foodie".

This is primarily a "sightseeing" and intelligence gathering trip. Gambling and shopping secondary, especially since I have no "affinity" to any of the casinos I will be visiting. Macau casinos have little connection to their U.S. counterparts. My relationships with Wynn USA and Sands USA have little or no meaning to their Macanese counterparts, therefore, I can't get a comp room over there.

I will be "seeing a lot of reclining Buddahs", a euphemism best left in the "After Dark" section.

I will try to eat local food at most places, I plan to try

Nasi Lemak (national food of Malaysia) - "Nasi lemak. A popular dish based on rice in Malaysia is nasi lemak, rice steamed with coconut milk and pandan leaves to give it a rich fragrance. Of Malay origin, nasi lemak is frequently referred to as the national dish."
Minchi (National food of Macau) - Minchi or Minchee is a Macanese dish with ground beef or pork seasoned with soy sauce and molasses. It's often served withrice a fried egg on top and considered Macau's national dish.

I looked and "unfortunately" there are no P.F. Chang's in Malaysia, Hong Kong, or Macau.

OK, so my first question has been answered. Effective 3/22/2019, I can't be a "cheap bastard" and use the lounge in Las Vegas on day of arrival.

"Platinum Card, boarding pass showing a confirmed reservation for same-day travel on any carrier and a government-issued I.D. *Effective March 22nd, 2019*: (1) The Centurion Lounge is a day of departure lounge. We will not admit arriving Card Members with boarding passes for flights that have just landed. We will admit Card Members with layovers or connecting flights who produce proof of connecting flight. (2) We will not admit Card Members more than 3 hours before the departure time on the Card Member’s same-day, confirmed boarding pass. This does not apply to Card Members with a connecting flight."

But, this does give me a place to have "free" breakfast on day of departure.

Also, on the trip report, I will provide "timings", since I am flying both "major" (American) and "low cost" (AirAsia) carriers. I will also be making use of commercial (train and bus) and rideshare (Grab) in both Macau and Malaysia.

Going to the Centurion Lounge in LV when you land on SW is kind of lame since it's over by Delta.

Ouch at using MR points via AsiaMiles (I'm guessing) and ending up on AA's plane instead of CX. Using AsiaMiles for Premium Economy or Business on Cathay Pacific for that would be clutch. Did you try to pay cash for SFO to LAX instead to get CX all the way to Kuala Lumpur from LAX? That's a long ass flight to spend in AA coach.

Yeah, but for what I paid for my Platinum card, I want to get as much use as I can out of it.

I typically fly A-list standby on SWA, so getting to the airport early isn't quite an issue.

No, I paid cash for the AirAsia flights. It was cheaper to buy R/T from SFO to HKG, and then a separate R/T between HKG and KUL.

I'm small(er), (5'7") so a 14 hr. flight isn't that bad for me. I got an aisle seat as well, so I can get up/down and walk the aisles.

I have found the platinum to be a just ok value for my circumstances, although you can use the credits well to get the fee back + status match into some hotels. The points earning rate is too low unless you fly a ton, and lots of people who do that have to book through a corporate travel portal. Especially with the improvement to the Gold card...I think i'd rather have AMEX gold + CSR for an ongoing deal.

Well, I got it primarily for the Centurion Lounge privileges. I plan to take a couple of trips to/through HKG this year, and having a comfy spot to "crash" makes it worthwhile. The Uber cash back promotion isn't bad either.

Wow! I'm really glad you provided this information. I've been longing to one day take an Asian trip, but simply found it too overwhelming considering the length of flights. This puts it into perspective for me - Thanks! I look forward to hopefully reading about the trip once it happens.

If you have the time I would recommend George Town as a place to see, though it has been 20 years since i was there I have good memories of the place.
Still tickles me to this day the way the Sikh's waggle there heads when you ask a question whether the answer is yes or no

You lose two days going there, but going home you land the same day you left so it all works out!

I try to fly China Southern whenever possible. They give you a free room if your layover is more than 7 hours. My last trip I picked a flight with a 24 hour layover. It was so nice to leave the airport, shower, sleep in a bed, and then the next day I continued the easy-peasy last 3 hours of my flight and arrived fresh.

I may spend a day in Kuala Lumpur, schedule permitting.

In Macau, It's kind of like Las Vegas, but not Las Vegas.
    Wynn Macau

    Venetian Macao

just to name a few. I have an extra day, so I may drop into Hong Kong and do some other "touristy things", like the Clipper Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental, or Tai O fishing village

    https://www.hong-kong-traveller.com/tai-o-fishing-village.html

    (like Aberdeen, but less touristy)

    Let's see how close I can stay to the plan . . . .
