FHBM surmised that end of 2020 seems really ambitious — not that I know anything but I have to agree for something of this scale. I am guessing the site is ready to go but that’s not even two years. Also, there will be at least two other major projects going on downtown at the same time. A lot of the work will likely be done by non-local outfits, but I would expect local limitations to come to play in terms of available resources. We will see.

2020 is 2 full years so it's possible.

if it turns out as good as it looks, I suspect its 777 rooms will be a popular destination for many

may have to consider staying downtown for the 2nd time in my life

We do not normally go DT. Just don't care for it. When this property opens we will definitely head to check it out.

I kind of hope they move Sigma Derby to Circa. I guess let’s all just pray it lasts that long.

My wish is that the “slotzilla” zip line comes down! Not sure what the Stevens brothers thoughts on it in front of their billion dollar investment?

I kind of agree with FHBM, but also remember that at least the hotel tower portion of the project should be finished in a faster timeframe than the 3000+ room ones we're used to on the Strip......those normally take about 3 years. Looking back, it looks like the Rush Tower at the Nugget took about 18 months from start to opening. This of course is going to be a whole new resort complete with parking garage. As Tim's wife mentioned, maybe there'll be a soft opening in December 2020, followed by more stuff coming online by the spring. Don't see much of a demand for the pool in the winter.

It reminds me of a vintage car from the 1950s.

I wouldn't do this if I were Derek. 2nd floor is a dead spot without it at the D. It's an attraction that drives foot traffic. Let Circa drive its own traffic as the new, shiny thing.

There's a reason Derek left his best VP up there at the D.

Plus he may want Fortune Cup clientele at Circa to pay for it.

This is an excellent point. Aiming for an opening at the end of '20 or the beginning of '21 gives them the possibility of having an opening party on New Year, a big opening of the sportsbook for the Superbowl in Feb (and/or March Madness), and an opening of the pool at Easter (or whenever pool season begins).

Not that I think they should move Sigma Derby, but I thought they were developing a company-wide sports book plan that also involves a sports book at GG and an improvement to the one at the D? That is more likely to drive increased second-floor activity there.

If they are going to even have a chance at that date then we'll probably see foundations going in and steel going up in a matter of months.

I've built a few industrial buildings so I've got a rough idea of the kinds of milestones they are up against.

It's a very exciting time for downtown. I'm just blown away that the Stevens brothers could pull this together from the land acquisitions to the financing. They've got some serious cajones to even attempt this which is something that Vegas has been missing for over a decade now.

Is anyone also concerned that with the continuing legalization of sports gambling across the country the casinos sports-book won’t be a huge draw; people can gamble online or at home?

Many of us have been "able" to make sports bets in our respective hometowns for a long time... just not "legally", but it's always been kind of looked at with a wink & a nod.
The "fun" in betting at a Vegas sports book is in the staying to watch the event, along with other gamblers... betting some ponies or dogs along the way... watching multiple events where you have a bet down... the "experience" of sports betting in Vegas is unlike any other avenue of sports betting.
Now, that may change in some places (like AC), but I don't think it will at most of the "locals" around the country.
They'll have a few betting "windows" or kiosks, and that's it

I don't know where they would put a sport book at GG with the current footprint and I can't see him investing heavily when he can just direct people next door to his giant 3 story one.

Eh, how much can you do up there? The space is tiny. It's never going to be an attraction of a sports book, IMO.

Yep. It's more that they'll be able to say they have their lines posted everywhere than anything.

The Stevens brothers are part of the consortium that built the thing, they are A-OK with it.

Glad you started this new thread. Looking forward to this property.. Remember downtown "circa" 2004? It was a hurting place. This would be inconceivable. Only hope Stevens has decent games.
