Is there a separate line for Mlife Gold to check in or is it all kiosks?

I'm a Gold member and I was just there over NYE to see the UFC fight that was eventually cancelled. I saw a VIP desk which I assume you can use to check in as an MLIFE member. It was only manned by 2 employees...

During check in time that line was long and moved slowly. You have better chances of doing the self check in if you feel confident navigating the it... There is about 1 check in helper per 3-6 kiosks so you can wait it out to get human assistance if you need it. I had a late arrival flight and no one else was checking in and I needed that employee's help the entire way... I'm 37 yo and am pretty confident about adopting early technology features but this one was a little confusing. The helper said that my confusion issue happens all the time.

You will need your smart phone, your ID, and a CC. An email will be sent to you with a QR code. Use your smart phone to pull up the QR code email and scan it... You will also scan your ID and swipe your cc. I believe you can use you confirmation # as well which i recomend

My confusion was that there is a scanner for the phone and a separate scanner for the ID. I hope this info helps and makes your check in experience run more smoothly.

I am Mlife Gold and checked in to the Park MGM back in September using the kiosk. It was a bit of a pain and I had to ask one of the employees for help, so you might just want to wave one over from the start to speed things along. It's definitely faster than that barren VIP desk!

    Hold on here.....
I don't mean to change the subject, but are you are stating that Park MGM checkin is done only via a kiosks???

Checking their web site and it reads :
"We hear you'll soon be joining us here at Park MGM. And, no, we're not even going to pretend to play it cool; we can't wait to welcome you to Las Vegas. Park MGM is a whole new way to do The Strip, even our check-in is made for an insider just like you. Visit any of the kiosks located in our lobby and prompted messages will guide you through our check-in process. That means no lines, just a seamless way to get to your exciting plans faster."

No lines!?!?!? Yeah right. Unless they have 1 kiosks for each room there will be a line if this is the only means to check-in.

I would be surprised if any casino went 100% kiosk for their check-in.

I believe they have 27 kiosks, plus you can use your phone to check in and avoid the kiosk altogether.

Obviously some drawbacks to doing this, and some kinks will need to be ironed out - but ultimately for the majority of people checking in who don't care and/or know about $20 tricks or upgrades this will be a very quick and convenient way to check in.

I do think they should have a choice, though... use the kiosk or wait for the desk. I think they'll ultimately transition to that as time goes on, but wanted to rip off the band-aid in the beginning to force people to try out the kiosks.

I was there during New Year's, one of the busiest times to be in Vegas, and the lines to get a kiosk were pretty minimal compared to the lines at MGM and Planet Hollywood check in where my friends were staying. Those lines can stretch passed the lobby and into the casino.

Today, having the guest self check in will be slower than having a front desk employee do it but it will only be a matter of time until users learn and adapt and then self check in becomes the faster preferred method.

This is the customer service industry and it can debated whether you feel self check in is a better service or waiting in line for human professional assistance. Get to your room faster vs having a professional do all the check in work for you... The frustration of going through the process alone vs waiting in a long line after a grueling flight. It's debatable... But the younger generation will always sacrifice convenience for speed.

Change is scary and confusing. But in the end all a front desk person is asking for is your ID and CC. I'm sure you have the capability to do that yourself at a kiosk.

I don't know how old you are but there was a time where you could not precheck in for your flight online or on your phone, there were no airline kiosks, everyone had to go to the front desk to get their plane ticket and check in. I can't imagine that being a better service model than the ones we have today. Yeah there was probably a learning curve and a resistance to change, but everyone just adapted and we understood how this was better for us in the long run.

Now when i go to the airport I only see one or two airline clerks and the rest are kiosks. We adapted. And the "lines" you see now at the airport kiosk are comparable to what Vegas strip hotels will be like in the future once this trend takes on. Although I agree with you that 100% kiosks are impractical it will more likely be 90% or more... And from what I saw you don't want to be in the line with the clerk. It was too slow...

In the past I actually have room preferences but have learned to let that go. Usually the important preferences are baked into the room type anyway (smoking/ non smoking, strip view, pet friendly) But yes if you wanna try to do a $20 tip trick then go for it... I actually like my room on the fist floor of the elevator bank... For instance if an elevator bank services floor 15-38 then i would request floor 15 just to avoid the chance of stopping at the other floors. Every elevator you get into will be an express elevator to your room or casino floor (unless there's a pool or Mezzanine floor)

For the adaptable people there was actually a way to check in using the MLIFE app and having your phone be your room key (if your phone has NFC)... it's an emerging technology so I'm sure it's still a little buggy but it can only get better. This means that you can go straight to your room upon arrival. No lobby or lines or kiosk needed. This is what I hope to do myself but sometimes familiarity gets the better of me. In my most recent stay I checked in on my phone, was assigned a room, and upon arrival used a kiosk to print a key. Next time i'll try to use the digital key just for the experience. From what i hear it's a hassle, you actually have to open up your phone and the app to open the door...

We have the technology now to make it easier it's just a matter of adapting it the hotel industry. We have keyless entry cars that only require your key fob to be on your persons for the doors to unlock and open for you. and the car will start for you. It might not happen in a year.. but it's something you can plainly see being available in the near future.

I started another thread to discuss the main concerns which isn't having to learn the new technology but rather potential to miss out on getting the requested room and possible end up with a down graded rooms and the inability to make room requests like a specific floor or view.

Now, if they can make the self service/kiosk process that fast, they surely can improve the actual check-in process with a live person.

When staying at Park MGM last month, one of the veteran dealers told me that during the transition from Monte Carlo front desk to these Park MGM kiosks, about 60% of the front desk staff was let go. I’ll confess that I requested human help immediately (I had 4 different reservations to check in for). The whole process took about 20 mins. Relatively painless once I knew what to do.

Yeah it's a shame that people lost their jobs because of the new technology but that's the way it goes. No one is sad anymore about about stage coach drivers losing their jobs due to the automotive industry. ... the hope is that MGM uses these savings and puts in other resources or services that would benefit the guest experience.

I just don't think this is going to take off. Lines are reportedly long. I can just imagine some elderly person just cursing at the machine and holding up the line. Sadly this is the way these corporations are. A machine works for free... I'll always take a human.

When I did my walkthrough of Park, I checked out the lobby and I saw so many bewildered people and frowns on their faces.

How hard could it actually be?

For those who have done it... is it actually difficult, or are there just a lot of dumb people?

My confusion was that there is a scanner for the phone QR code and a separate scanner for the ID. I hope this info helps and makes your check in experience run more smoothly. The front desk agent said that it happens a lot... I could have just typed in the reservation confirmation # and it would have been easy. Enter reservation #, Scan ID, swipe credit card, print keys.

I saw people in their 20's getting frustrated, so it's not just dumb people in general. It sounds like a dumb program. They should use the same one as CET's self check in, which I had no issues with twice.

Got it. So sounds like a bad design issue.

How has mobile.check in been for people?

I have stayed at Park MGM twice now (Feb 2018 and May 2018). Both times I checked in, it wasn't too busy, so I had a rep with me to help. It went super quick, had my keys within 10min after walking in the front door. I will be there again in 2 weeks and will attempt the process on my own. I will post results back here. Because if I can do it, anyone can!
