I am heading to Vegas in the morning to play a few poker tournaments. I asked a friend who helps me out with luke warm advice if I should go. He said “you can’t take it with you, I’ve never seen a hearse with a luggage rack.
I love that guy, tomorrow can’t get here soon enough!
Timspeed, I have no doubt you will do the right thing for you and the family.

I'm probably being an enabler here but I enjoy your TRs so for that reason alone, don't quit on Vegas yet!

Probably a spiny Lobster from the Caribbean.

One of my customers was a wholesale distributor of frozen seafood, his specialty was lobster tails. He had tails sized from bigger than a thumb to as big as your forearm.

Hey Tim, I LOVE to gamble as much as the next degen, but I'm not going to sugar coat it. From one Nor Cal brother to another, stop going so often. I hate hearing you talk about your degen ways and losses, and then saying 'I Quit'. Instead of going 'X' amount of times each year, cut it in half. That means Tahoe, Reno, and locals too. I've been following your reports for years. I sit here at my computer and root you on every trip, but in reality, I often shake my head at your betting style as compared to your bankroll. Some trips you gamble as if you have a $10,000 bankroll. And there have been trips where it worked out fine as you got some good slot hits early on. But in the long run, that mindset is going to ruin you. The casinos truly love players like you. And with your losses, you will continue to get wonderful comp offers that tempt you to come back again next month, and the month after. Is that room or food you get for free worth what you give back to the casino?

You say you used to like blackjack, but now find it boring. Everyone likes the instant gratification and rush from a smaller bet that slots can generate. The chance of a big win is exhilarating and brings on an endorphin rush that over time, changes the way we think about gambling. But if you polish your skills, you can be more successful, and have a lower variance, playing cards and grinding it out at a table. There are a few people on this board, including myself, that are close to even, or even ahead, lifetime gambling. Most are card players. I've been playing black jack for 30 years. I don't count cards per say, but I pay attention to certain trends (how many aces, how many 5's, and streaks with lots of high or low cards). These factors can change my betting patterns when playing blackjack. Also, on a busy Saturday night, when the pit boss comes to the table to observe bets, I often bump up my bet for those 2 or 3 hands. That often results in him increasing my rating in the system above what I'm actually betting during that session. There is a lot more I could say, but it really is just one big game of chess.

Regardless of what you do long term, I'm rooting for you. I hope you can figure out the best balance so you can continue to scratch your gambling itch, while maintaining a happy and healthy mindset.

I hope you have a happy holiday season and best of luck to you!

We are like an online support group. LOVE IT! One of the main reasons why I never gamble alone is I 100% know that I would behave badly. I'll also say we are slot players and for me doing that alone isn't fun. My wife and I together 'support' each other in terms of managing our bankrolls and making better decisions. In fact over all of our trips to the motherland we are basically even on slots. If either of us were doing it alone I know that wouldn't be the case. Cheers!

I just go with what my grandmother taught me - "everything in moderation, but an occasional binge is okay as long as you don't lose an eye"..

    Smart lady, my Grandma.

Play the horses. You can truly win a lot with a small bet, and there’s 25-30 minutes between races if you’re playing one track. It takes about 5 hours from start to finish, all the while you’re getting free drinks and really having fun. I think that saved me my last trip to Vegas. Played the horses from 10 til 3, went and had happy hour somewhere then slots. Less slot time=less loss for me. I couldn’t buy a bonus last trip.

I guess i could just gamble for peanuts, and pay for my rooms...although i have no idea how much three weekend nights would be...probably close to $1000? But I guess that’s better than $5k!? Haha

Those of you bashing Dr. Pepper have never had fireball mixed with it. Thats the only reason I keep it in stock.

This may amaze you, but I do not recall ever having had Dr Pepper OR Fireball :) should I lose these virginities separately or together?

Everybody knows that Dr. Pepper is just carbonated prune juice.

Well, a weekend only has two nights, so that saves you a few hundred right there. :)

Do whatever works for you. But my advice would be to keep enjoying Vegas, but give up slots for a little while. Also, start back up on the Tahoe trips.
