I did a 6 week TR after the event some years ago. Didn't get many replies, but I don't gamble much and didn't have a ton of pics. We did a lot of travelling around.

You did 6 weeks? Wholly cow, that’s amazing. You Europeans sure have it right when I comes to time off. Most of us Americans have 2 weeks, and some of us no paid time off at all. Michael Moore once said the American dream is alive and well, just not in America. The key to getting a large following is to do it live. I was checking 2-3 times a day for updates to this TR. I also understand it can be tough to maintain a live TR, as I’ve never attempted one.

I get 25 days paid leave in N. Ireland, as well as about 11 public holidays (St Patricks Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day etc).

I'm contemplating doing a live TR when I'm in Vegas in a few weeks, whether it being just an update each morning on the day before, or just upload a pile of photographs as I go. From previous trips, I'm not sure I've the time to be typing up everything as I go! I'll likely start with best intentions anyway.

I read as much as I could of your amazing TR.
    Salute from NYC.

You didn't seem to go crazy gambling but held back nothing when it came to eating.

Can't wait for you future adventures!

Out of curiosity, how long have you been working there?
Is that the norm in N. Ireland?

Not long enough. That's the basic number of days. It's 30 days after 5 years :)

Not yet. Don’t worry though, I haven’t done the final tally yet, had too much going on for work. Aiming for today, if not tomorrow as I’ll be doing my bill payments one of those days and the tally will be part of that.

Just getting caught up on this summer's trips reports. Thanks for sharing. Amazing all you did. On your next trip - I would suggest Emeril's at MGM if you have never been. I had the Pecan Crusted Texas Red Fish - it was wonderful. Came with grits - I am not big on grits - my husband calls me a communist - grits are a staple in the south. But I loved the grits - not at all like you make from the dried package.

I think it's fairly common in the UK. I'm out of the loop now, but many of my friends had similar vacation packages at the time.

Okay, auditing complete. Everything double-checked and balanced out in a spreadsheet. Amazingly, everything adds up. Didn’t have to dispute even one thing.

All figures in the breakdown are given in USD. I’ve added 4% to all non-cash expenses, to account for my credit card’s foreign conversion fee and the “premium” exchange rate. Everything is also adjusted for any costs that Eddie and I shared, such as the hotels, to reflect what I paid for myself. These figures are also “after” any adjustments such as resort fees that were waived.

Sorry that I couldn’t separate hotels/dining/entertainment/tours. It was easier for me to itemize everything by each day (which included the hotel charges). If you could see the spreadsheet I made to do all this, you would see it was complicated enough as it was :)

Also, for transparency, the base rate at Aria for two nights was comped from MyVegas, and my flight costs are artificially low because of a points redemption I got through WestJet. The points do have a “cash” value that I stated in my initial cost breakdown, but I decided to exclude them from the final figure.

After entering all of the figures into a spreadsheet, I was amazed to discover that I actually BARELY used my credit card... but yet my statement for this billing period is seven pages long! It’s all the Uber and Lyft rides.

So without further adieu, here is the breakdown...

Cash: $2,200 ($1,000 coming down, $1,700 in ATM withdrawals, came home with exactly $500)

“Book end” flights (Toronto/Vegas roundtrip): $164.47

    Reno flights: $140

    Hotels/Dining/Entertainment/Tours: $4,292.39

    Uber/Lyft: $463.63

Travel medical cover (my credit card includes 15 days, this is just the supplement): $27.56

    Mobile phone roaming charges: $139.27

Grand total: $7,623.16 USD, just under $10,000 CAD.

Divided by 23 days: $331.44 USD / $434.78 CAD per day

Divided by 540 hours: $14.12 USD / $18.51 CAD per hour

Posts to follow with some of the pictures I forgot to post, and one “mega reply” to all the comments I didn’t answer.

Don't tell anybody... but there’s now a 75% chance I’ll be going back to Vegas in mid-August :)

I was planning on going to Chicago anyway at some point in August. That’s already costing me almost nothing as it is. Considering how cheap it is to fly from Chicago to Vegas, I’m thinking I’ll just go from Chicago to Las Vegas ($60 one-way on United!), and then back to Toronto.

Reason for going back is to spend a few days in Laughlin. I started scoping it out for my "next summer Vegas". But after seeing that water and the low-cost jet-skiing... I don't want to wait another year!

So my tentative plan is three-ish days in Chicago, four-ish days in Las Vegas, and 2-3 days in Laughlin somewhere in between. Still have to draft that plan up, but we'll see what happens!
