How's Golden Gate for the basic rooms?

I must be misremembering then. The one I remember looked like a smaller, more crowded Cromwell.

Actually you're right... I am thinking of whatever casino the Uber driver dropped us off at - maybe the D. It did look like a smaller Cromwell at GG. My bad - thanks for the brain trigger there.

I stayed there for a 3rd time in June and asked for a room away from the noise. They put me in an "Inside" room, one with a window facing the inner part of the building. They also used to hand out earplugs but no more. They offered a suite upgrade for $67/night for this mid-week stay.

View from room 247. No noise issues with my own earplugs.

I would have done that in a heartbeat... pretty easy to 'work' that off at the tables....most, if not all, anyway.

The suites are nice, but the bathroom still has issues. It's fine solo or with a comfortable significant other, but it's an outside sink with toilet and shower rooms with a curtain to cover the area if you need privacy. Unless you put the curtain around the sink area, there was no private place to dry off and change after a shower.

I stay here often, but only the suites. i would also check on the suite upgrade or even the deluxe room upgrade. All that being said, if it were a solo trip and i had to stay in the standard room, i wouldn't hesitate, with the understanding that's its super small, basic, and old..

Just to jump in, they are/were small. My then-girlfriend-now-wife spent a couple of nights there. Give me a couple of days to pull up some pictures, just to show how small they were. This was before the renovation happened, so I am not certain of anything recent. I can't think there was much change. I remember the halls looking like "redrum" halls (we still refer to it that way.) I also got quite a kick out how strange the closet was. Again, before renovation and the (in my opinion) idiocy of all that Fremont Street noise. The wife wants to go back there, even though we do the GN rooms, because of the quaintness, I guess.

I saw a Queen room a few years ago.
Even though I get offers, doubt I would stay there, unless I could get nothing from Boyd's, if I wanted to stay down down.

Roller skating rinks were still around in the 90's? Just saying “skating rink” makes me think of the 70's.

Isn't that like saying I had no car trouble when I walked to work? I would think "No noise issues" would preclude the need for earplugs.

I couldn't tell if there were noise issuse because I had my own earplugs in to demonstrate the noise wasn't an issue with earplugs since the noise is a concern to some including the hotel who has since stopped handing out earplugs to guests for whatever reason one possibly being they're tired of the complaints that the earplugs don't work or even they ran out of earplugs and they fed me a line of bull which not coincidently is what I am doing now.

We stayed there with 2 other couples, and one solo guy. All 4 of us had different rooms, all had terrible views of mechanical equipment, and the bachelor room was the smallest thing I've ever seen. Maybe 300sq ft. but oddly had a 100sqft closet that was like 4'wide X about 12' long. Very weird.

Also, our room faced a bunch of other room in what was kind of "courtyard" so you could see across to everyones rooms and there was a balcony maintenance could walk all the way around on and there was buckets of cigarette buts like people took break and hung out just outside your window. And our window didn't shut properly, I had to "McGyver" something to prevent anyone from coming in from the outside.

It is the last place I would stay on Fremont and I've stayed at them all except El Cortez which is next on our list.

I found some pics of the room from Dec 2007. Enjoy. Small, but workable. Two nights, I think, using the LVA. We then moved over to the GN.

@bu$hman Is that a typo? No way that TV was in a hotel room in 2017. Did you mean 1987? :D

I would avoid the basic rooms. Not good. Not quiet and not comfy. The suites which they added a few years ago, however, I love.

You caught me. That was 2007. Edited post to reflect the correction.

Remember, though, we were using the LVA coupon, which I think was one night free, with the purchase of one night. It worked. My wife still wants to go back to it (don't get her wrong, she likes the spa at the GN as much as anyone) as it was quaint, quiet (maybe not so much now, with that party street). We made do.

Go to the Vegas Tripping website (I can't link to it at work). They did a review of the "remodled" basic rooms in 2008. The last time I stayed there a couple of years ago, my room looked like the room in their review and it was serviceable.
