In your experience, what's the minimum bet you have to make to get a drink ticket at various sports books around town? Anyone have experience at Cosmopolitan?

Places like Cosmo, Aria, and Bellagio are typically looking for $200 min bet, maybe less. Tipping and asking for a ticket may be worth it. YMMV.

Wynn wants $300. I’m not sure that Cosmo (CG) gives out tickets (hopefully someone will correct me.) I remember (a few years ago) seeing signs at Monte Carlo and Mandalay Bay saying $125 was necessary for a ticket.

I’ll echo @spicole ’s advice: tip and ask!

Cosmo is CG. That means no drink tickets

Not a minimum (and probably a maximum), but I got back a couple of weeks ago and was told The Mirage just changed their drink ticket policy. It's now $500 for sports and $20 for horses.

In April 2018, Mandalay Bay told me $500 min for a drink ticket

Last month, every time I bet $100 on a baseball game at Caesars Palace, I got a drink ticket, without even asking.

Last year, the Luxor also gave me a drink ticket every time I placed a $100 bet on baseball. I asked if there was a minimum amount needed to get a drink ticket, and the writer said he could give me as many as he wanted to. Then he asked how many I wanted. Not wanting to appear greedy, I said two.

Maybe I just look like I need a drink.

Actually, it has always been my feeling that the drink ticket is bullshit. I would rather pay for a drink than have these bastards set an unreasonable minimum on me.

Even if I were a High Roller, I would tell them to shove their drink ticket. What a silly assed incentive to gamble.

See above edit. I'm glad there are people in this world willing to shell out hundreds of dollars on sports bets and then think they somehow got over on the casino by getting a drink ticket.

I play in the Mirage almost exclusively. $20 at a time. Proportionately, my $20 is every bit as important as someone else's $5000. It just isn't worth it to bet $500 to get a $.50 bottle of beer.

Well, I agree that nobody should be wagering thousands of dollars for the purpose of getting a beer. But I think the same logic applies to every comp at every level (i.e., don't chase comps). But if they are willing to give me a free drink for a wager I am going to make regardless, there's no way I will tell them to shove it

Understood, but why isn’t my $20 bet worthy of a beer?

Because the casino's expected value from that bet is less than the retail price of a beer.

Breeze, I think the more serious answer is that the casinos don't make a lot off sports betting, especially compared to other money generating options for the sportsbook space. A $20 bet has an expected return for the casino of, I think, about a buck eighty. To make that buck eighty, the casino has to staff the book windows, keep the tv screens up and running, and employ persons to analyze and set the lines (all the while, they are giving up the chance to put lots of slots in the same area, which don't require as much overhead). A few years back casinos started to view the book as an amenity more than a profit center. They use the book to draw people in and hope they stay to play slots and tables. They just don't make enough to give away free booze, except for their bigger players.

House advantage at a sports book on a standard bet is 4.44444%

Meaning your $20 bet has an expected return to the casino of 88cents and a $100 bet returns $4.44. While I miss the days of betting $100 total and drinking for free all day I can certainly appreciate having a minimum for comp drinks.
