Nope...but I wouldn't be paying attention to that kind of stuff...I have their card...got a 50K point point bonus when I did, and I'm happy with that.

Happened about a month ago according to chatter on flyertalk. Something akin to stop those who churn cards for short term benefits like earning a companion pass :whistle:then cancelling the cards. Who would have thunk that actually happens???:evillaugh:
Sort of like their 5/24 rule?

Wife and I go back and forth. I get a card and get 50,000 miles, she gets a card and 50,000 miles.
We cancel and wait a month or so and reapply for another 50,000. Pretty simple. Cancel before next annual fee.
Is this a bad thing to do?:poke:

Well, if you keep it up and others follow, a light system will eventually be invented to regulate such a practice.

You cannot have more than 1 open personal card at a time, but you can still get one personal and one business to obtain the companion pass. I am not sure how hard it is to get the business card if you don't actually have a business.

Yes, the rule came out a month or so ago. Lots of folks get one business and one personal. We are on our second companion pass doing this. Free flights this year and all of next.

I wondered what happened to them. I am still waiting on the report. Crap, guess I'm out the 30,000 $ too. You don't happen to have a forwarding address do you?

Maybe this applies to new applications because I have a SWA Plus and a SWA Premier.

I did have to apply for a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) with the IRS. The first time I tried without one, Chase rejected the application.

I believe that it does apply to new applications for personal cards. Here is the current disclaimer from their application:

Earn 40,000 points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.* This product is available to you if you do not have a current Southwest Rapid Rewards® Credit Card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months. This does not apply to Business Card and Employee Credit Card products.

As said in many posts above - this is a new policy rolled out this spring.

My brother is a travel points guru and helped us get the companion pass with two cards in my girlfriend's name last year. Great scam (yes, I know, not actually a scam) that is helping fuel my bonus trip in July.

He said it's easy to get a biz account, never mentioned needing a TIN. Sounds like it might be hit/miss on if you need one to get a biz card. I sell crap on eBay now and then, is that a business?

I'm also a business partner of H.E. Pennypacker, a wealthy American industrialist looking to open a silver mine in the mountains of Peru. Perhaps that'll get me qualified.

Hey Pennypacker, I heard you opted to build a rollercoaster instead! How is that going?

Once you cancel the card don't you lose the 50,000 miles?

    NO.

Once you earn the miles (bonus or normal spend), they are transferred automatically from the bank to your Frequent Flyer account. Cancel does not mean anything. I would never cancel a card right away though. No reason. Only reason I ever cancel any cards is when the annual fee comes up the next year - though there are a few cards where it might still be worth it pay.

    Same with all cards.

There is one exception - and rare. If the bank thinks you are scamming them, they can claw them back. Again, very rare. I have 30+ cards and have picked up maybe a million miles in the past 5 years. No problems.

PS- if the comment was about the "company" going out of business - the card still works just fine, as long as you pay the bill. It is not like the bank keeps to checking to see if the "company" is still in business or even making money.
