    My Trip Report

'Twas the night before Vegas, when all through the house

    Only Basil was stirring, but quiet, like mouse;

The bankroll was packed in carry on with care,

In hopes that more money soon would be there.

The wife and the daughter were all snug in bed

While visions of handpays danced in my head.

With wife in her jammies, I pulled on my coat

For a smoke and more dreaming- Win enough for a boat!

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang to the door to see what was the matter.

Out onto the porch I flew like a flash

But tripped on the threshold, came down with a crash.

The new streetlight outside made it bright as the day

As I picked myself up and stood with a sway.

When what to my wondering eyes did appear,

But a Mirage limo stocked full of beer!

With a gentleman driver all dressed in a tux

I knew in a moment that none of this sucks.

Quick as a flash, we started our trip

When magically we found ourselves driving the Strip:

“There’s Cosmo, and Aria, Bellagio, too!

Some Slappers and hookers, and Winnie the Pooh?

To Yardbird, to Tag, to Rhumbar galore!

The Henry and Still, Wicked Spoon and more!”

To the Mirage the limo finally pulled up

    With bellhop all smiling, I took my beer in a cup;

To the VIP check-in I went with a smile

But no luggage? Oh well, I’ll hit Miracle Mile.

Deeply I breathed in that distinctive smell

Hawaiian tropic and smokes with a faint hint of Prell?

With a tip to the clerk, to my new room I rose

And started my trip (to continue in prose).

But suddenly my vision! It went out of focus

And I realized this all was some dream hocus-pocus

Some voices I heard as I awoke at home with a fright

“Happy Vegas to all, and we’ll see you tonight!”

It’s that time again! The annual (ok… twice a year for the last few years) Vegas trip is finally here! Once again, time for poker, bourbon, VP, handpays, food porn, high card flush, degeneracy, debauchery, and delights both foreign and domestic!

    The Players

Basil- once again, your host for our little shared journey. Project manager for an online investment firm by day, poker playing degen by night (and weekends… and days off. Sometimes also on a quiet afternoon….)

Ford- Fellow poker player, retired young. Despite living 15 minutes away, have barely seen him recently thanks to me being WAY too busy at work

The Bankroll- that oh-so fickle mistress

Various bartenders, cocktail waitresses, dealers, marks, sharks, degens, tourists, families walking too slow and blocking sidewalks, hucksters, con men, freaks, and other assorted Vegas detritus

    Location

American Airlines- Providence to O’Hare, O’Hare to Vegas- 1st class thanks to miles, but a 3 hour layover ☹

Mirage- home base, truly the mirage in the desert. Since we need two beds, suite wasn’t an option, but the host told me that there are a few tower rooms with 2 queen beds, so hopefully that’s where we end up. She also coded me for the VIP lounge, so no waiting in line for coffee in the morning

Wynn- home of the Wynn poker classic: planning to play the last event of the series, the $600 $250k guaranteed

Downtown- that place I keep saying I’m going to see, but never actually do. However, now that I know about Carson Kitchen, hope to actually make it down there

The next nor’easter is on the way hitting us tomorrow when I fly. But, I have an early flight out, and storm isn’t supposed to hit until the afternoon, so fingers crossed. Thanks to all for keeping me entertained with Vegas stories for the rest of the year, and consider this report my way of repaying everyone.

Great intro! I never thought about mirage and Hawaiian tropic and smoke, but yeah, that's a good description! Beat the storm and get the hell out of Providence!

I was trying to figure out which category I fit into, and I suppose it's probably this one. I'll be at Linq and points south on the strip. I'll have to check this thread to see how things are going just to my north!

    Nah
Nah, yours is excellent. You sounded like the rhyme master himself, reverend Al Sharpton.

Have a great trip! I'm excited for this one as we're staying in the Mirage this summer. Take plenty of Mirage photos.

    Umm. 4?

In ORD sitting at rick bayless’ Tortas Fronteras. This may be the best bacon and egg sandwich I’ve ever had. Seriously. The green Chile salsa makes it.

Flight was interesting on takeoff as we worked our way over Winter Storm Quinn (c). Very shaky and lots of drops, but we made it and landed early. Another 2 hours til I board, i see a couple of more makers in my future.

And another makers. Current intoxication level: debating with the wife via text about whether or not cereal is just a type of soup.

Have a great trip. Never thought about it before but I think you could classify cereal as a cold soup.

Finally got the wifi working on the flight, but only on laptop so no new pics Not much to report- a couple of woodford's, a crappy lunch (Vietnamese salad), and the 2nd Kingsmen movie. About an hour and a half to go until the promised land.
