Here now, staying at 4 Queens for 1 more night, then up to Harrahs. Have had a few issues. First room in North tower I was given was disgustingly dirty. I'm not a picky guy, but hairs in sink and counter, and not 1 or 2. Was given a new room. I come from the east coast, and,was woken this am at 5:30 with 4 calls in a row, finally got to phone in time to find out its fraud dept. From my Credit Card company. A couple hours after I checked in, 2 fraudulent charges in California were attempted, one went through the other denied. I haven't used the card in a few weeks. And the only time was at check in. I let front desk manager know and basically was brushed off with a couldn't be my employee. So beware. I think soneone in yhe hotel gave my info to a friend/relative in California. Then I remembered they offer credit for not using housekeeping. Went back to front desk, was first told it was to late. When I told them it had'nt been offered at check in and it was their mistake, they did correct it. So things to look out for here. The credit card had to be cancelled. I'm afraid it's going to create issues checking in at Harrahs tomorrow, since it's the only card with me. And one I booked room with. They are expediting one to me at harrahs, but won't arrive till wednesday. Not a way to start Vacation. For what it's worth, casino and bar staff have been great, but I'm soured on staying here again.

So, you called them up and complained because you counted how many hairs were on the sink, and it was more than two? Aside from the hairs, what was disgustingly dirty?

Harrah's will probably want a cash deposit of several hundred at check-in...which they'll give back to you as soon as you present the new credit card and secure the room with it. Or, if you have someone at home (like the wife) that you can call to have them give their credit card number to secure the room.

Really Merlin? Your going to accept an uncleaned room? Then have you Credit Card show up with fraudulent charges?

And no, I didn't call them up and complain, I walked my fat ass down to the front desk and complained.

How do you know the four Queens leaked your CC number if you used the same card for harrahs?

That could also have been stolen awhile ago and been sold to someone who finally used it. You can’t prove causation on your own. Four queens should care if they have a problem though.

If it was me and I found numerous hairs in the sink and counters...I wouldn't think it was my job to pull back the bed covers to check and see if the sheets were clean (shudder!)

I would do just as Jimshan did and go straight back to the front desk for a different room.

The credit card charges and 4Q's reaction to them is surprising. Thanks for the heads up.

I've never had fraudulent charges from a Vegas trip. (knock on wood!)
But I've had problems with debit cards being dinged multiple times for incidental holds.
(Thanks a lot - asshat FDC @ Mirage)
I was able to transfer funds from savings, but it was a PITA.
It shouldn't have happened at all in the first place!
It took a few days for the funds to get credited back to my account.

If I've booked through the casino directly, I pay the entire remaining balance due for hotel/resort fees/tax in cash upon check-in.
I have a credit card that I use specifically for Las Vegas for Incidental Holds ONLY.
There is never a charge on that credit card other than a temp hold.
It's worked well for me so far.

4 Queens North Tower is rather - "grubby" in general.
It wouldn't surprise me that there might be a few cleanliness issues.
They've remodeled some South Tower rooms already.
But, the North Tower rooms need more than a simple refresh.
The NT rooms need new & more secure windows and doors.
Adjoining room doors need to be removed or replaced.
The bathrooms are beyond repair and need to be gutted completely.

Hope your check-in at Harrah's goes okay.

it is pretty common to find hairs in the bathroom, no matter where you are staying. it seems like most of the housekeepers have long hair and don't wear hair nets.

over the last 5 years or so, I have had several CC breaches, and they were during or shortly after a Vegas visit.

    my 2 cents!

Agree with @vegasdev - credit card breaches are pretty common & not just after travel.
I've had 3 so far. None within the past 5 years though.

Probably a good idea to set aside a credit card that is ONLY for travel.
Preferably a cc that gives you text alerts for purchases.
If any unauthorized purchases happen you can nip it in the bud right away.
Also have a backup emergency cc - just in case something happens.
Then you'll have funds until your new card is sent to you.

I always call my credit card to let them know I'm traveling out of state.
They say I only have to call if I'm going out of the country, but I still call anyway.
Take a scan of your credit cards and driver's license. (front and back)
Keep it with friend/family and if you need it they can email you the info.

For the record, I have noticed curly hairs on a bathroom floor, I dont really inspect for them but when you're sitting there "pooping" you have time to notice that. It's a little gross but, you dont know how bad it was to start with, it is a bathroom where naked people take showers and groom every day.

It sucks that your card was compromised, at least with credit cards there's no liability, enjoy the rest of your trip.

Not saying it absolutely happened here, but I don't use the card much. Yes I booked Harrahs with it months ago. More likely someone here gave the number to somebody then it being stolen months ago and now just used, don't ya think?

I had the same problem with my stay at El Cortez about 2 years ago. It actually happened when I made my reservation. I made the reservation 2 months in advance. A few days after I made the reservation my cc company called me about some questionable charges in California. I checked and I had only 1 other charge (3 weeks previous) at CVS. It was too much of a coincidence that it started after I made my reservation so I'm pretty sure it came from there, plus I never ever had an issue with CVS charges. I called El Cortez to warn them of the incident and they just brushed it off.

Luckily my cc company checked with me as they were able to back out all the charges made. Stupid crook, he/she used my cc number to pay their vehicle registration fee and utility bills. I wonder how those places handled the backed out charges, they must have known that this person stole and used someone else's cc. I checked with my cc company but they didn't even bother trying to prosecute the crook, that it wasn't worth going after since it was only a few hundred dollars.

Stayed there a year ago for a night. Found small pieces of hair, like from a guy shaving, on the counter. Not a lot but enough to irk me. Long hair from a woman was on the towels as well, I assume from housekeeping.

OK We stay at MANY MANY hotel rooms each year. I have NEVER EVER found hairs or any other gross stuff in any room. (I check the bed corners for bed bugs everywhere, so I DO look--I also wash glass cups myself before using)
If you are finding hairs, WHY are you staying at these places? GROSS. That is negligent house cleaning.
We stayed at 4Q once. VERY dated but clean. But we overlooked stage on Fremont street & honestly could not conduct a conversation in the room.
    NEVER again.

I agree with Jimshan that the timing makes it look like the number was stolen at 4 Queens...

What is it about Vegas and our credit cards getting compromised! On one solo trip I met my friend and his wife and I treated them to Makino Chaya sushi at the North Premium Outlets. I paid with my credit card.

Later on that night my wife called and asked if I charged for $500 in sporting goods on the internet. I said why the fu*#k would I do that. She said the credit company alerted and wanted verification and upon denial they froze the card. The only time I used it was at Makino Chaya.

Just fyi but Makino Chaya is no longer there. They closed a while back.

In US, almost always, the server will take your CC to a counter, very probably away from your eyes. There, he/she can take a picture of the front/back of the card and now your card is at risk for suspicious online charges. I had this happen to me before, but my bank's fraud team caught it before the charge went through, and they just resent me a new card later on.

So, I try to avoid using my CC for meals, I pay cash most of the time, unless I pay at the counter (buffets, fast food joints).

Around Europe, it has become common to pay with a credit card at the table (via an Ingenico mobile POS machine). This helps solve the CC theft issues as you never have to part your ways with your CC. Hope this will be common around the US as well.

    Thanks for the heads-up.

Another good reason to charge everything to the room and do your shopping with cash.

Of course, if the front desk clerk is crooked, you're screwed no matter what.

Any tourist destination is going to be a magnet for CC thieves, but Las Vegas seems to be in a class of its own.
