I love a good mix of music! The repetition at FSE is ridiculous.

I can take the same set list on FSE and MSS and the loud music at The D, but I'm getting sick of hearing guys beating on buckets and the same 5 or 6 steelpan (I had to look it up) songs over and over on Fremont.

I tire of them too but would stand and watch if they figured out some way to become a marching band doing formations and weaves ala Ohio State or Grambling bands. High stepping, banging, waving, spinning the sticks and all that stuff.

Come on, squint a bit and you could see it.

I'm all for it if they just keep on marching down the street. Hopefully long hair guitar "playing" mostly naked guy will join the parade and get the hell out of there, too.

^ I think the bucket drum guys are pretty talented, but after recently spending 6 nights at the D (in July), I have to say I got really tired of hearing it. I can't believe they don't get exhausted themselves.

Fifteen years or so ago the street percussionists were quite the novelty and always attracted a crowd. Nowadays they're more of an annoyance.

April 24 2016 I expressed my concern as to what will happen to Vegas Vicki on this message board. Vic lost a wife and Downtown is turning into a weird monopoly that will have to compete with the Freemont street vibe. Theres the hipster Downtown vibe, the "but its a classic" vibe, the "lower class than the visitors to the strip expect" vibe, and the "I'm a millionare (but I'll keep it history... whoops) look at my property" vibe. I'm a hold onto the history girl. Fremont was the one place I felt like it was a "older Vegas" vibe.

Have any drawings been released on what the property might look like?

I mentioned earlier about the VP in Derek's new properties will not be good. Those of you that remember the Fitzgerald will remember they had some full pay. When Stevens took it over the full pay was gone. The Golden gate has even worse VP. So how can anyone suggest the new property will have good games. It won't happen. The new place will be stylish to compete with the Nugget and we all know how tight the games are in there.

As for Boyd owning many casinos. Yes this is true but many of their properties are off strip and to be successful they have to offer better gaming. They are after the locals. The Fremont downtown has lousy VP other than a few pickem machines. I actually saw 6-5 DDB in the 25 cent lever and up at the Fremont.. So not all Boyd properties offer great VP.

Stevens is after the young crowd who wants the finer things but gaming is not as important to them.

I stand by my assumption that the gaming at Stevens new property will not be good.

Interesting discussions and perspectives. As a 40+ guy I agree w/ topcard on lots of topics and it seems we enjoy vegas in much the same ways.
I personally frequent the GG because I travel solo often, and GG is small and the turnover is minimal (although that seems to be changing somewhat).
anyway, I like the atmosphere, and I like to see a familiar face when I walk in the door. I don't consider any of the dealers/CW/pit poss/bartenders to be "friends", but they recognize me and I recognize them. It's nothing more than having a level of comfort that you "know" someone, even though you don't really know them. No expectations of anything extra, etc, as topcard eluded too.
I also have similar findings @ the D, although not as much due to the size. I typically make an effort to see my favorite CW and craps dealer.. The D and the GG are my goto gambling choices when in Vegas, even when staying on the strip. I love the vibe of both places, and look forward to the new location!

Unless they are MIA since I played there this past October, I must disagree with your assessment of Fremont vp. They have numerous games in the 99% payback range. Yes they do have some lessor pay vp for "tourists" who don't bother to read or perhaps understand pay tables as almost all casinos do.
vpfree2 will back up what I'm saying.
To say it has lousy vp sounds like someone with an axe to grind. You didn't by chance lose a big wad on that 6/5 DDB did you? Where is that machine located? I never ran into it at the Freemont.

I'd also bet the farm that:
    1. All blackjack will be 3:2
    2. There will be at least 2 double-deck blackjack tables - and they will permit DAS.
    3. The roulette table will be 0-00...no 000.
    4. The atmosphere will be "fun".
I don't play VP, so I can't comment on that - except to point out that Derek will likely want to be competitive with 4-Queens & MSS video poker, so... I would expect "decent" paytables on his VP machines at the new property. My guess is that he was probably paying attention when DTG had their VP fiasco early on.

My guess is the D is a reasonable proxy for how his VP will be. He'll have stuff like longbar that is for suckers, and he'll have a few good machines upstairs/in the back for people who are willing to work to find them.

Should we bring back all of the old things about Las Vegas Club? Like the dumpiest restrooms in all of Las Vegas? Hmm, maybe not.

I have not been downtown since last year. What, if any, progress is being made on the Derek Stevens new property? Will it be open in 2018?

Right now I have no reason to go downtown. I found the casino in the Plaza to still be a dump. The Downtown Grand didn't have much going on at noon or so on a weekday. Didn't care much for the D. I played a table game at the Golden Nugget for several hours (either Pai Gow or maybe Let It Ride or 3 Card Poker). Golden Nugget was the nicest of the casinos I was in, but it feels too damn crowded in there. They have too many tables & too many slots in too small of a space. For what they had in there they really needed a couple thousand sq ft more of casino space to hold it.

I much prefer the casino at Aliante. Bright & open inside. I hope the new property that takes Las Vegas Club's place will be that way instead of the typical downtown casino look.

They are still in the demolition phase. They are a ways from the LVC replacement being open. Published reports suggest 2020 may be a better guess of the opening date than 2018.

I haven't been to Aliante in years, but the last time I was there, I would equate the atmosphere (and your description) to DTG.

The new Stevens property will not be open for a couple of years...

What sort of planning approvals do they need from the City, and how long does that process take, before they can start building?

I assume that they have to publicly publish their plans as part of the approval so it can't be too far off us finding up what they've got in store for us in 2020....
