BFF & I went to the Retro Futura (6-80s 1 hit wonder bands) concert at the LV DT events center behind GNugget 3 weeks ago.

Afterward we wanted to get to Hennessey's to hear Roxy Gunn. Unfortunately we tried to make our way through the casinos/Fremont Street to get to that end of Fremont Street. NOT POSSIBLE. I have NEVER seen the crowds like that out on the street--TRULY wall to wall, sardine packed. We tried to go through casinos, but there were barricades outside each entrance limiting the ways you could go--you had to go THROUGH the sardines. Well, we tried, but it was BAD. Rude people--honestly, frightening at times.

Had we known, we would have taken Carson Street to get there the back way. But after that debacle, we were DONE with DT & grabbed our Lyft back to the Strip.

I don't mind DT during weekdays/weekend days but have never been a fan of the crowds on weekend nights & this one took the cake.

Hate to hear to didn't make it to Hennessey's. We're not a fan of crowds either. I'm guessing the special event brought out a lot more people than usual.
We've walked Fremont Street many nights without seeing a crowd. I do avoid First Friday because of the barricades and extra effort required to get in/out of casinos.

That kind of crowd downtown is rare. Halloween before last (a Saturday) we encountered a similar situation. It was as you described. Couldn't move. I swear in some spots I could have picked my feet up and I wouldn't have fallen down it was so densely packed. It was fun until it got that crowded, then it was scary. I'm not a "give me my space" guy, but I don't like being constantly bumped and jostled either. We beat a slow (wanted it to be hasty, but couldn't move that fast) retreat around 10:30 and didn't venture out again until the next morning.

If you hadn't already mentioned Fremont Street I could easily think you were talking about the Strip.

I think much of this was due to it being a First Friday. I've heard many stories of crowds like this on other First Fridays. I always avoid downtown on that day.

IMG_4740.JPG I am trying to remember 3 weeks ago BUT it could have been the reason for the LOOK @ the Boars Head Bar this night!!! Although technically not on Fremont. Three weeks ago would have been July 28? I think this was July 19th. Maybe everyone left early to get a good seat at the venue. Maybe not.

A new 4oak procedure at Boar's Head. According to two bartenders, they took away their two-ways because they were calling too much and not being patient enough waiting for the scratch card people. Now they have to go up to one of the newer machines and hit the call button if the 4oak is on the older machines.

Well THAT explains it! Shoot! I thought I had done my research & didn't think there were any major bands on Fremont that weekend!
So 2 tips--do your research (THOROUGHLY) & go AROUND Fremont Street if you want to get to the other side if there is a major band playing!!

I've only ever known it be like that once, and that was 3 years ago, when July 4th fell on the weekend.

They had barriers and security all down FSE. Was wall to wall, and took me 1/2 an hour to get from the GN to Le Thai.

That's gonna be fun when the bar is busy. Maybe we shout SCRATCH CARD and everyone on a new machine can hit the service button.
There's been times when I waited so long to get a scratch card that my player's card timed out.

At least we got to see them, thirty plus years past their peak.

    LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, CHEAP TRICK.

May l suggest that next time you might join in instead of trying to pass through, you might just enjoy yourself.

There is absolutely no doubt they have cut back on scratch card people. We had some very long waits last weekend. The bar was full on Saturday and Jose came over and said I need to borrow your call light. The person next to me got a 40ak on one of the old machines.

How do you think it would go over if they let the bartenders/barbacks provide the cards for the people playing at the bar?
I mentioned this joking to one of the girls giving me a card, she grunted and rolled her eyes.
