How do you know they're "locals + non guests" ? at the pool.

 

If you have time to kill and will have a ticket for the Monorail, it's worth a visit. If you have time and it's not too hot, Lucky Dragon is a block West on Tropicana. A small casino with the least expensive authentic Chinese (Cantonese) food not in Chinatown.

 

It's actually on Sahara, but saying "One Block" is REALLY pushing it! It's far more of a walk, more than I would ever want to do in the summer heat, than any city block I know of.

 

you mentioned uber to downtown from MGM. You could always catch the WAX for $2. Stop is by Koval going downtown (or NYNY) and drops off by the Trop on way back.

 

Sorry, my bad. I knew exactly where it was, but got the street name wrong. Yeah, I guess I also walked it at night and in cooler weather.

 

One thing I learned back when I started getting familiar with LV and the properties is the exaggeration of proximity to the Strip. The first I think I saw was an ad saying that Continental (now Silver 7) was "one block from the Strip" and I've seen Rio promotions saying the exact same thing, verbatim.

Then there were the long-lens photos of Vegas World (now Stratosphere ) that made it look like it was right next door to Sahara and Stardust!

 

For the simple reason that the monorail first opened in 1995 and Paris opened in 1999.

 

I liked the SLS. Very nice. I think it is worthwhile to check it out. And of course the Hard Rock is awesome!

Hard Rock is cool. I dug it. Memorabilia was fun, as was the pools.

I've done the tram ride down to SLS. $5 each way. It's a beautiful hotel, but it's been a ghost town every time I've been in there.

The only people I've seen check in/out of the place are pilots, so I guess one of the airlines puts its staff up there?

It's literally out the side door of SLS, cross kiddy-corner of LV blvd / Sahara, then walk through the parking lot of the Bonanza gift shop.
It's honestly no farther than walking our the front door of Pho, up across the bridge, and into Cosmo... (although there's a quicker route)

 

Not to argue here but I just tried it on Google maps cuz I know I was not on drugs! Google says 6/10 of a mile. I'm staying at the SLS now and there is no {f-bomb}ing way I'm gonna walk that in this muggy heat!

 

Trust me, I find Vegas heat to be very easy to walk through. Here in Chicago, the humidity is what kills us. So dry heat? No problem!!! I was there in June last year when the heat index was nearing 120, and I found it to be a breeze!

 

I went the first time last fall. I didn't play at the casino, but I found the sports book to be really cool and cozy. The attached Umami Burger had overrated food and not many TVs (it was an NFL Sunday), but it was nice sitting in the shade outside and drinking while craning my neck to see the TVs high over the bar.

Today is not as bad as yesterday, but it's still a bit muggy. Yesterday the humidity was so thick that you could feel it as you walked.

"But it's a dry heat."
"Yeah, and so's a blast furnace!"

 

As the VMB's Chief Hard Rock cheerleader... I say absolutely!!! I also think the SLS is worth the venture as well.
