That stage right opposite the GG looks really bad. It blocks the view up FSE and takes out the plaza view.

That stage placement is an unofficial "Eff Ewe" to the Plaza management, which is NOT a paying member of the Fremont Street Experience.

Ah I didn't know that. Makes sense. Hopefully when Stevens does something with the other side of FSE it look more simpatico.

    that's what I've always heard.
I hang out in front of that stage often, but I do hate that it block the view of the awesome old-school looking Plaza.

While this makes perfect sense, do you have a source for this information?

It wasn't the GG that closed them down. They closed up due to "Tax issues". From the sounds of it, the owner hadn't paid them in years.

This was pointed out to people when they first put up the zip line, and the stage. The Plaza refused to pay into the FSE, so they built the stage to block them out. It wasn't totally done by Stevens, but I'm sure he had his input.

    The internet. :haha:

That's why I called it "unofficial". I am sure that I've read it somewhere, but damned if I know where.

I posted this in 2012. Keep in mind, that times have changed since the article was written in 2010. As far as I know, The Plaza is holding it's own now.

"I can't recall how long the stage has been there, but it may have been intentionally put there to block the view of the Plaza. Reading this article from 2010, http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/may/04/fremont-street-experience-operator-sues-plaza-hote/, it says the Plaza opted out of the Fremont Street Experience in order to save about $40,000 per month.

I have noticed that the Plaza is no longer included in FSE advertising. As a business decision, I can't really blame them (the FSE operators and the other casinos) from wanting to block them off."

Fremont Street Experience operator sues Plaza hotel

The Fremont Street Experience and Plaza Hotel in downtown Las Vegas are shown.

    By Steve Kanigher

    Tuesday, May 4, 2010 | 11:33 a.m.

The company that operates the Fremont Street Experience sued the owner of the Plaza hotel Monday for alleged nonpayment of a required monthly assessment to help manage the downtown attraction.

Fremont Street Experience LLC alleged that Tamares Real Estate Investments LLC of New York stopped making payments in June and owes $429,990. The assessment equates to $39,090 a month, according to the lawsuit filed in Clark County District Court.

A Plaza spokesman did not immediately return a call for comment.

The lawsuit stated that Tamares had been making the monthly payments from February 2006 through last May. As a member of the Fremont Street Experience, Tamares is included in the attraction's print advertising, website and overhead Viva Vision display, the lawsuit stated.

The Fremont Street Experience alleged that it has made repeated requests of Tamares to pay the assessments that are owed but that the Plaza owner "continues to refuse to pay all monies due." The assessments are used to help operate and maintain the Fremont Street Experience.

The battered economy reportedly forced the Plaza hotel late last year to lay off some employees and temporarily close some hotel rooms and restaurants.

I do not think the Plaza had been part of FSE since it was sold to Tamares. Tamares kept Vegas Club as part of FSE, but dropped Plaza if I remember right.

"Golden Gate will be closed Aug. 20-25 for a significant construction phase, the press release said."

    Crap.
That encompasses the entire duration of my upcoming trip.
    Thanks Derek.

That's sure not gonna happen if you saw the pictures I posted last month in the "Restaurants" section. That's probably where they are going to add more machines.
I am not always against change, but this is the most historic place left in Las Vegas and should have thoughtful changes.

I wish they would at least have taken the shrimp cocktail special and put it on the menu at another cafe in there. I never had the pancakes either but heard they were a well liked menu item also.

I don't think many of the casino owners making changes care about "old Vegas" and those of us who miss what it was like there in the 80s and earlier.
They are changing things to attract the younger generation. Hence the focus and proliferation of loud music, dance pits, nite clubs, pool party scenes etc.
