Approached by a Slot Host (Cosmo)

Hi guys, so I'm in Vegas right now, specifically the Cosmopolitan. I was playing very little in the high limit slots and then jumping around from $5 slots for about a hour. Then the weirdest thing happend as I'm playing the Cosmo slot host approaches and greets me by name. She the proceedes to introduce herself, hands me her business card and tells me next time I want to come into town please contact her and she will take care of me.

So my question is, how the hell did she know what machine I was playing at? Do they track players while they are playing? I mean to know the machine I'm playing at and know my name? Kind of weird. Does that mean I was playing up to their standards?

If your card is in the machine, they know. And they will get alerts when people play certain thresholds.

 

yes they certainly can.
they don't care what YOU look like, they just see $$ signs.
at my local casino, my weekly free play amounts went up 2 times in 2 months.
that means they looked at my play and said "man he is really stupid, let's get him back in here"

 

Same thing happened to me last year at the Cosmo. It caught me off guard too since I never thought I played enough to warrant a host. She's great though. Good luck!

 

That is very common at CET. Lots of the casinos now tie your players card to the host group. Many of them actually have the title of "Player Development" which is more accurate than host - LOL!

 

They also can see when you are there playing on any trip. My host at the D always comes to say hello even when I am not staying there but just playing. He always seems to find me when I have a 30 cent bet going on lol!

 

A couple of trips ago I thought I was being approached by a slot host at Bellagio.
Turns out they just wanted to give me a heads-up that my shoe was unvelcroed...

In all the trips I've made to different CET properties and being diamond, it never happened ONCE!
First time at Cosmo to play seriously, and our host introduced herself..way better customer service at Cosmo

 

I was a long time MLIFE platinum member. I had maintained Platinum since they introduced the tiers from the old Players Club cards. Never once had I had host approached me on the floor nor did I ever have a specific host assigned to me.

Moved over to Cosmo this past winter. Now have a dedicated host, who always comes up with better offers then I was getting through MLIFE. And, yes he often finds me on the floor, tracking me through the Identity card.

Bottom line, if she gave you her card, call her for your next visit. You won't be disappointed!

 

What kind of craps play are they looking for? I know it is hard to gauge because they don't give points on tables. I am typically a $100 - $150 per roll player and put in at least 4 hours a day.

 

It's really all about your play. My Cosmo host wont do anything for me offer-wise beyond my marketing offer. I first stayed there on an offer match from Kevin, had a host assigned to me then - and went I wanted to go back for a second stay, all the assigned host would do is book the same offer as the one Kevin had originally made me. When my marketing offer came out, it was $310 more in free play then what the host offered me.

She's great, really nice - took the time to find me on the slot floor and introduce herself, but at least at my level and maybe hers - all I'm going to get is a marketing offer. Now with that said, I get a limo, VIP check-in and typically find some treats in my suite. Not complaining, just don't want people to think that just because they have a host - magic things are going to happen. Many hosts don't seem to have much more authority than the marketing reps - again, at least dealing with someone at my level of play.

When I made mLife Platinum, I wasn't approached by a host. It happened at Mirage, and I went into the host office to inquire about any possible benefits, the on-duty host gave me his card and said "call me anytime you want to come down".

When I made 7*, I was playing at Caesars. A host actually came on the floor and introduced himself as my "host".

 

I am a lower level player at mLife (never made it past gold) and was approached by slot hosts at Luxor and Excalibur several years ago. I have only had recent contact with my Excalibur host. My Vegas visits, and resulting play, have slowed down in recent years and I haven't stayed at Luxor in a long time.

 

Diamond on the Floor! That is what my Local CET calls in. When you are playing with your card in the machine, and are Diamond or above, it triggers any host on duty and they will usually come out and great you at your machine. This is at Harrah's Joliet.

At first it threw me off, some random lady that I don't know touched my shoulder and said "Hi (My real name)". Like an idiot I talked to her like I knew her, but I must have forgot, before she told me the Diamond on the Floor thing LOL

 

Safe to assume you do not have any Chinese blood and neither did the host.

Brings bad luck to the gambler.

Or maybe the host was doing on it purpose. LOL

 

Nope! But I'm from a shitty neighborhood in Chicago. My 1st reaction was to clench my fist!

 

CET Vegas I used to always get visit from host on duty while I was playing. Haven't in eons.

In Council Bluffs I was until last trip. Then it was odd. Did have someone at Horseshoe stop by but not at Harrahs. At Harrahs the host was actually two machines bed away chatting up someone but never stopped by my machine.

 

I've never been approached by a "Host".........i have been approached by "Hostesses" who want to be a "Host".......if you catch my drift........

 

Tables are a little different. Your play should get you noticed downtown but I'm not sure what qualifies you to be noticed on the strip. I saw someone at the Cal crap table playing with black chips (so probably had $300 - $600 out on the table at any time) and within a half hour a host came up to the guy to offer him whatever he wanted. Not sure but I think the pit boss called the host. It was interesting and funny to watch the host fawn over the player but guess he was playing big enough to warrant that type of attention.

In your case, just playing green chips ($25) on all the place numbers is a $150 outlay and while you should get comps it isn't enough for a host to really "notice" you IMHO since many players normally play that much.


In some casinos like Cosmo it is possible that the people who work in the high limit room possibly notify the host if they see someone playing for a period of time. It could also be that they have a program that flags the host when a player is playing a certain amount, esp in the high limit room. I think some casinos are more on the ball than others when it comes to a host and your play but it also comes down to the host hustling for the casino. Their job depends on bringing in the "whales" or higher rollers and getting those players to spend money at the machines and tables so some hustle more than others.

 

The only time I'm ever approached by a host is when I'm informed my table is ready for dinner.
