    My Trip Report

The gambling gods graced me with 12 handpays my last trip in April to Mandalay.

Heading back to Mirage for 3 nights where I'm being setup with a Mirage Suite, 100/day F&B, 500 freeplay, and limo transfers.

Just finishing packing my bags...heading to work in the early AM to take care of some things...then it's an A30 boarding pass on the way to Vegas on Southwest!!! Looking like a pretty light flight as next-day last minute fares are still $140.

Can't wait to be back in Paradise!!!

Hopefully will be providing lots of HP pics like last time!

This is not how I wanted this TR to end but...

Why I left early from vegas

I did not even stay for 24 hours. Played an hour craps and about 3k coinin on slots.

First off the whole town smells like weed. Now I know Vegas has always been the town of free will and enjoyment to ones own self. But now since they decriminalized personal use and now the dispensaries it is everywhere. Walked outside the Mirage first smell was the strong scent of marjuana. All over the place. Not how I want to spend vacation.

Comps are drying up everywhere. Inaccurate ratings by pit bosses add to my frustration. I cannot believe Mirage still uses paper slips. Add to this two snobby hosts I dealt with recently means my gambling dollars are walking elsewhere.

The people. Alcohol overconsumption obviously brings the worst out in people. Add the liberal drinking environment of Vegas and you can get some nasty stuff. I expect this. However after seeing an elderly woman attacked thrown to the ground and had her purse snatched by two obviously drunk 20-something females....I have had enough. And no one rushed to help. One had to basically push a security guard over to assist her. She will have to have surgery and I hope she sues the establishment. I cannot tolerate people who can't control themselves anymore. Too much in vegas. And no common courtesy.

It's dirty. And getting worse. The long forgotten employees of Vegas are the cleaning crews. God bless them. But I feel the casinos are cutting back because I see less of them and the lack of attention to certain parts shows. Vomit left in a hallway for over 8 hours. Trash bins overflowing. Drink cups piling up. Wood Touchup paint in my suite splattered on the marble countered table. Carelessness.

Minor issue but booked a confirmed 10am spa appointment yesterday at 2pm and was called this morning to be informed that it was overbooked and my time needed to be moved? Really!?

Inedible food at LVB last night and mediocre room service yesterday afternoon and breakfast this AM from the Pantry

Maybe it was the July 4th holiday, and the heat that brought out the worst in everything. But I never thought I'd have felt this about the city I fell in love with from day 1. I still love gambling (and came home significantly up the last two trips I came here...) but oh man Vegas will have to try a lot harder next time. I do not see myself returning for a long time or at all.

Sorry for the gripe but had to share. I've shared this with my host too (who was not the one I ever had any problems with).

Wow! That is too much of the bad side of Vegas, I don't blame you for leaving early. Sounds very low class, not what I like in Vegas at all. I hope the woman is ok, and they caught or catch the thieves!

The only time I was actually in fear of a person puking in Vegas was in the Mirage, at 2am, dude could not stand up and his 2 buddys were walking him around, seemingly so he didn't slip into an alcohol-induced coma or something. Security was rather "just another day" about it. I know I headed for the door when I realized where the story was going! Maybe other resorts can control and protect their patrons more.

Sorry issues in Vegas caused you to shorten your trip. I was concerned about the smell of weed on our quick weekend trip back in May but that proved unfounded maybe because we stayed at Bally's.

The last 2 times I was there on the 4th of July it was pretty out of control as well. I saw a lot more fights, more obnoxious drunks, and as you put it zero common courtesy. That's pretty much why I only go during the fall or winter...Plus I get enough heat here in Florida, I don't need more of it when I'm on vacation. I hate the smell of marijuana, cant stand it. That is something I'm not looking forward to. I'm a big legalize everything guy, and do my share of drugs, but I hate weed. Sorry it forced you to cut your visit short man...but I think it may be just the holiday weekend, more than an entire downward trend of the city overall.

I feel your pain. Over the past 3-4 years, there's been an unfortunate shift from the Vegas visitor of an earlier time to the present day irresponsiblity, lack of concern for others and taking over are those who are visiting for the purpose of getting trashed as the main objective. The influx of SoCal "youth" that have no concern about the history of Vegas or the future of anything beyond where they can get high/drunk and merely hang out in public is becoming the repulsive side of this oasis. The influx of international tourists will eventually dwindle when the violence and civility becomes so unbearable that tour companies will not suggest Vegas as a major destination. The Vegas motto, "What Happens in..." is a joke now and has lost it's "naughty" vibe. Now, what happens in Vegas could be harmful to your health and life and the vibe has turned from a controlled innocence to a "look over your shoulder everywhere" and understand the person walking ahead of you or behind you could be under influences that are much more dangerous than merely having had too much to drink and being a danger to themselves. Thug-ish scenarios are common on pedestrian bridges as well as in general in front of venues. Just think back on the numbers of shootings and other activities along the Strip and surrounding areas that were never reported up until about 3-4 years ago. And we thought the porn slappers were so disturbing! The movie The Hangover has become an anthem in a way. But, even those guys didn't face what is going on in 2017. Security, Las Vegas Police, Resort Management etc. now have a different landscape to control. The NFL and NHL, to a certain degree will influence the tourism and challenge the enjoyment of the once rowdy gambler image by bringing in a different crowd. I remember an NBA All-Star game that was held in LV a few years ago. That turned ugly pretty quickly. How this city handles the next year will determine it's future, in my opinion. It's a sociologic issue and must be controlled by plan and not fighting small fires that pop up on a more increasing frequency until the average tourist is afraid to even walk down the Strip. I'm going to wager that the investment in properties by the corporations will be protected and the local government will address what it can and we can all feel comfortable enjoying our given pastimes.

What a shame. Wife and I were concerned about the new law going into effect and how it would play out. As others have said that, 4th of July is one of the holidays we avoid in Vegas, too many amateurs. It was probably a poor decision to have the law begin on such a "partying" holiday. Hopefully it calms down once it becomes part of everyday life.

Interesting because my June trip this year felt decidedly tamer than usual. Met tons of nice people at the tables and not a single wierdo/jerk the whole trip which is quite frankly incredible.

Fewer open open slippers, less trash on the ground, and generally a better vibe than years past.

Hope it goes better next time.

Was also in Vegas over the weekend, nothing out of the ordinary for us- was at Mandalay Bay and Golden Nugget..... I've always encountered people smoking weed in Vegas, but it seems to be everywhere even outside of Nevada too- sorry you didn't have a good trip
