Westgate

Any advice or recommendation bout staying there would be appreciated. For some reason want to stay there but wanted to get the boards opinion.

 

The room was fine.

The whole place was THICK with timeshare salesdroids lurking everywhere. They were majorly aggressive and even hitting on solo businesswomen.

Next conference I moved to SLS and liked it much better!

 

I've never stayed there but the buffet is AWFUL, it was free and it still was terrible....

 

Stayed a few days ago.

Location not great (definitely need a monorail pass) short walk to the station though
Pool area was nice and relaxed
Drinks frequent on the floor but my wife had some cocktails in plastic glasses.
Rooms so so but happy to have a fridge in there to keep snacks/drinks
No food court or anywhere for a quick snack at the hotel really
Timeshare people were near the lifts but we just brushed them off and wasn't bothered by them.
Staff very friendly

I enjoyed it but I've never had a bad stay in Vegas and we are not that picky as we move around a lot.

 

I kind of understand your reasons for wanting to stay there. As the LV Hilton it was steeped in history. Never stayed but the casino was good fun and we had a snack at Sids cafe. If I recall Sids closes for only around 4 or 5 hours a day.
The monorail station is right outside the hotel and this will take you to a number of different casinos on the strip...Harrahs and MGM to name a couple.
Go with your heart...I have been going to Las Vegas for years. Stayed in the Mandalay Bay , Bellagio and Pallazo all for 4 or 5 stays each time. I always wanted to stay at the Mirage. When I finally did it was the best holiday I ever had....GO FOR IT!!

 

Any reason why you want to stay there? It is a shadow of its former self. i walked through the place not long ago. The old Star Trek casino is completely shut down. So there is no longer gaming over there. The Star Trek name has been off for a long time, but they continued to have machines and such up until Westgate turned that entire section into one big timeshare hall.

The Elvis stuff is long gone, that didnt work out well for anyone. The main casino is dated. Like everyone else said, Timeshare people are everywhere you go. Its very annoying, even if you ignore them, it is still stressful seeing them approach you down every hall every day. The food options are limited and the location sucks.

If you want to get out and be "in Vegas" you are constantly traveling via the monorail, ride share or cab. It is completely removed from all the action.

It just wouldn't seem like a Vegas vacation to me. I know people like to bitch on Yelp. But the below is very telling. Hard sell on upgrades, hard tip requests, dirty everything, smelly unclean rooms ETC.

If you like to gamble, maybe you will be one of the 86 to claim its a 5 star. But chances are you will be one of the 542 recent guests who wished they didnt waste their vacation there... I don't like those odds!

For what its worth, 1 Star ratings for my beloved Circus Circus are merely 38%.

 

I stayed there a few times back when it was Las Vegas Hilton. Enjoyed my stays. Was a while ago.

Have stayed there many times. I agree with most of what has been said. Another negative to me is the lack of a restaurant to my liking. The steakhouse is priced like a top 5 steakhouse, but it's not that well regarded. The Italian place had two tables seated when we arrived 7pm on a Saturday night (depressing vibe), and the service wasn't great. Many regard Sids cafe as overpriced. I also hate that they charge for use of the in room safe.

What's good about it? Well the remodeled rooms are pretty decent, if you can get one. The pool area is decent, and unlike most on the strip isn't overcrowded, and isn't partially covered by shadows of nearby towers. There is a monorail stop there for getting to mid/south strip. They have 9/6 Jacks or Better. And of course, the legendary sportsbook, now remodeled.

If you do decide to brave it and stay there, please report back! Most of what I hear is sadly negative. They seem to be under staffed, so the resort is a little unkempt. So much so that they offer you a resort credit if you opt out of housekeeping. That way they dont have to hire too many housekeepers. And the front desk is told to upsell as hard as they can.

That upsell, and the understaffed front desk, slows the checkin line to a crawl. Also do NOT take the "Free" "Check-in gift" or the "Welcome Package". Someone is usually standing by as soon as you get your room key to give you this "gift". Most people think it comes with the room, and who doesnt like a free gift right? Its just another timeshare pitch.

You get your "gift" after sitting through their pitch and taking the tour. They wont just hand you something. They are very sneaky about it tho!

 

Room was clean maybe a little dated. Front desk and check in was a breeze and they were very friendly as were all the staff.

I'm happy to see you verified my comment on them giving you a $10 resort credit if you forgo housekeeping. In your report you said you had to find a housekeeper making her rounds and had to ask for clean towels. I also see you resorted to stealing toilet paper out of the maids cart. Sucks when you hang a shit and can only wipe your ass with a resort credit voucher LOL. Sounds like a classy set up!

I saw the question being asked to you, in your trip report, if you were bothered by the timeshare sales people in the hotel lobby. You didn't answer that. Did they try to hound you while you were there?

 

They tried to approach a couple of times but gave them the brush off without being rude and since we were there for 10 days they knew we were not interested. Hardly spoils the stay.

I have stayed there solo several times, and really like it. Half way between downtown and the strip, makes travel easy if you have a car. My favorite part is the pool area, and a fridge in the room. Low key, decent music, and not too crowded. It is a very large pool, even for the huge number of rooms. I have never really gambled there much, and yes the food options suck, but I grab to go from fast food or other places close by. Parking garage is easy to navigate. Staying there again next week. That resort fee is a killer though. I have never been bothered by the timeshares people. But I never get bothered by them anywhere.

 

Resort fee? On Expedia the Westgate came up without resort fee, only taxes. Or am I mistaking?

 

You are missing something. Expedia doesn't collect the fee, you have to pay the hotel directly when you get there. Here is what it shows for the Westgate when you actually go to pay for it on Expedia

Yes, but usually Expedia mentions with every hotel the resort fees that you have to pay at the hotel and for Westgate they didn't. But your copy from the website says it all.

I only concidered Westgate, because without resort fees it would save a lot of money, but with resort fees I would not stay that far away from the action on the Strip. And $34 is a bit too much imo, then I might as well stay at Harrah's or Flamingo.

 

There's a lot worse places you can stay, I visited it in August the casino was fine drink service good. For me especially for my 2nights 3 days trips it's not close enough to walk anywhere. That's a big negative for me. However my friend loves the place because it's a little secluded and the mono rail runs there and it's a 5 minute ride to the strip.
