Looking at their website, Vdara seems to only offer valet parking. Is the Aria self parking very close to Vdara hotel? We used the Aria self parking last summer for our stay there so l am familiar the proximity from the garage to Aria hotel with but is it a much further walk for Vdara guests?

Would like to save some $$ as the Vdara parking is $18 (plus tipping) and self park is $10 at Aria. Or should l just forgo renting a car this trip and use Uber or Lyft which l have never used before?

Personally I don't think renting a car is worth it anymore since parking isn't free. Uber is cheaper than renting a car, plus you get door to door service. The only reason to rent a car is if you want to go outside the area.

Just get the MGM credit card. It upgrades you to Pearl status which includes free parking. I got it. I used it once...for a $1 burger at McDonalds just to get it working. I plan on keeping it in my dresser drawer to be used only on LV trips. Not a big deal and I don't have to worry about those pesky parking charges...I go where I want, when I want.

I'd love to be able to get the MGM credit card but being Canadian l am not eligible.

So l just need to know if the distance is comparable.

Aria parking is on the far side of Aria next to Monte Carlo. You would need to drag luggage from the garage all the way through Aria, then outside and over to Aria. We have no problem doing that ourselves, but... You could also drop off the luggage at Vdara front door, then go park.

Forgo renting a car? I would seriously consider that. Unless you are doing lots of off strip stuff, it is really not needed. Walking and the occasional Uber/Cab works great.

You can always rent a car for a couple days, there is an Avis desk at the Aria, Monte Carlo, and NYNY. Also a Hertz desk at PHo.

Vdara is super close to Cosmopolitan, Bellagio and Aria....
....but.... I HATED schlepping through Aria's far side (nearest Monte Carlo) for the Parking Garage or the Tram.
I would rather park at Cosmopolitan ...it's $10 and it's closer than Aria's parking garage.

I'm going to have to disagree on this. Uber / Lyft only makes sense if you're doing a few small trips off of the strip and if you're only going back and forth on the strip. Other than that, I can't see the actual benefit. I looked at the agenda of what we've done on previous trips, and calculated what Uber / Lyft would have cost us, and the rental car came out cheaper (including refilling up the tank with gas). Not knocking your comment, because you personally think that, but there are other sides to consider.

Now, back to comment for the OP. There are many options for Vdara. You could park at Aria, or walk across the bridge-way to Bellagio (which is quite a walk, though not as bad as you'd think). Then, there is Cosmopolitan, which I think is the best option. You'd probably have to pay for Cosmo when they start charging. But still, best option IMO.

I posted a question here, but some well-meaning moderator moved it to another thread about renting at a hotel versus renting at an airport. I wanted to make the comment here, not there, so I will try rephrasing it as declarative.

I have never rented at a hotel desk. I assume the selection is poor, the price is high, the wait is long, and it is also inconvenient because one still must arrange transportation back to the airport. One or more of the above assumptions could be wrong some or all of the time. Perhaps others with experience doing a hotel desk car rental could comment.

You don't have to walk through Aria. You can take the City Center tram from the Monte Carlo stop to the Bellagio stop. This is clutch when you have bags.

So I have done the exact same thing and here what I came up with.

If you park at Aria and exit the North Valet Exit and walk to Vdara, I think that is the shortest route. I mean Vdara lobby is so small walking from Aria parking garage to Vdara is like walking from MGM Parking to your room. If its not raining I'd take this route.

You can park at Bellagio and walk to Vdara as well. Its covered and you won't have to go outside but its a little longer walk.

I thought about Cosmo but Cosmo doesn't connect on the backend from what I know. Cosmo isnt part of Mlife so there is no real incentive from Cosmo to connect with Mlife. You pretty much have to walk through Crystals, (the mall) and pass Aria. So might as well park at Aria

Last time I checked for a 1-2 rental, it was a bit higher at hotel. Airport is cheaper, but airport fees add to the total. Not sure about wait and if you return the car to the hotel, you still need to get to airport. Though you might be able to return to airport, you then have to take shuttle from car rental place to airport. Cab or uber from most strip hotels is about $10. And if you are renting during the MIDDLE of your stay, you can just return it to the hotel anyways.

I agree with @kansaisupra - In a pinch, I've parked at the Bellagio then walked to the Vdara. It's a longer walk but it's covered and a very straightforward route.

Just to verify, I just came back from staying at the Vdara and ended up parking at Aria. I am mlife Gold but just don't like valet parking.

Anyway assuming you don't want to park at Vdara Valet parking here are the three choices.

Aria self parking. After you self park, level two is the same as the casino, its a not that long of a walk to Vdara, take the North Valet exit out of Aria, walk a half circle outside and your at Vdara. Not bad.

Bellagio. I think its a little longer to self park and walk but not that much. It might be better to park here because you never go truly outside.

Cosmo. Although probably theoretically closer, there is no "legal" walkway to Vdara. You definitely can do it, but and there is an elevator that brings you down onto Harmon but you would be walking on the sidewalk.

But in any event, enjoy Vdara, Super nice. We ended up getting a corner suite. Super nice.

What's considered a "legal" walkway? Outside of the Cosmo is a sidewalk, and the crossing to get to the stairs or the elevator is clearly marked with dashed lines indicating you can cross there......

Sorry I meant, what you say is true. You can walk on the walkway which forces you into Cosmos garage.

However, if you wanted to walk all the way to the strip or front of Cosmo. it says No pedestrians allowed. You can still walk to the strip but there is a gated door.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. Spouse is still leaning towards a car rental because we love the flexibility to go off strip for eats and convenient for shopping at the outlets. Most likely we will end of valet PR at Vdara or self-parking at Aria, as opposed to Cosmo because they are now charging for parking and paying for all day parking at Aria/Vdara will allow us to park at no extra cost at other MGM properties.
