Thanks for the pool pics H0Llywood. Dang it! So far, it looks like no lazy river pool. That was the top thing we enjoyed about MC. I'm not a big pool person, but a lazy river I DO like! I'm thinking we'really going to have to try MB some trip....

PS everything was just fine in MC (when just walking through), lobby is fine still, casino fine. It's the area where The Pub used to be that's just drywalled up/out of commission. Oh yeah, and of course the pool :)

Has Monte lowered their rates at all to make up for this construction and the lack of a pool on site?

I feel like the majority of people who go to Vegas aren't as savvy as us VMBers and the ones who end up booking MC on a travel site or something are probably going to be unhappy.

I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully they have either lowered their rates substantially or they are more amenable to waiving the resort fee. Either way, too much clutter and way too many things closed to draw any interest from me until they're done. Great location, hopefully the remodel goes well.

The comments I've seen in the last two months on their Tripadvisor, Facebook, Yelp, etc. certainly bear that out; they're pissed. Mind you, even the ones who say they booked direct are claiming they weren't warned, yet that information is plastered all over their website-- so a lot of this anger is due to people failing to read the words that are in front of their eyes. As for the rates, it seems like the public-facing calendar on their website is still showing prices that I would consider normal for this time of year (mostly 50-80 midweek, 120-200 on the weekends), but my MLife offers are heavily discounted or occasionally comped, and I have no history there whatsoever.

Edit: Oh yeah, and of course they're not waiving the resort fee-- at least, I haven't read any accounts where people were successful in getting them to.

I've seen some lower than usual rates, but not as low as they'd have to be to make up for the hassle. And I haven't heard from anyone here who has gotten the resort fee waived due to the construction.

I enjoyed my stays there. Good price, great location, yummy food in the brew pub and beers for my husband. Last visit, a few years ago, the place was looking pretty worn out. I'll be interested to see what they do with it. I'm not too excited about the pool area from the photos posted here so far. Not keeping the lazy river was a mistake, IMO.

I've spoken to the casino managers. All of them are happy to be staying on at the MGM Park. All are saying that the hotel casino will be nice when it's done. I'm hoping so too....

I hope they use this as an opportunity to purge a third of the dealers in the casino who seemed miserable and just going through the motions.
If the plan is to make this more upscale they will need to either hire better dealers or provide better training.

Aside from the 3 or so sketches they have out, it would be great if they released more renderings of what is to be done. I feel like this is being remodeled to a great unknown and i dont like not knowing. Throw me a bone here MGM Resorts

Ack, I hear you Nittany on staff seeming miserable. We used to stay there a good amount...and we really liked a bunch of their staff, but if they became comfortable enough to chit chat, most were NOT happy.

I am not a fan of the phase "happy wife, happy life" (unfair to hubbies), but I DEFINITELY believe a happy staff equals a much happier stay for guests.

An unhappy staff? Well, they ARE the life blood of the casino experience...no matter how many facelifts you give your hotel, if you don't take care of your staff, "the experience" will fall flat for guests, no matter how much you try to rebrand. :(

I hear ya. I've never stayed at the Monte Carlo, but the remodel has me intrigued. The room remodel will make it or break it for me. I wonder if they'll do anything externally to the building to freshen it up (thinking SLS)?

Funny you mention SLS because the few renderings out have me comparing the remodel to the SLS.

As for the hotel itself, the Nomad (Hotel32) is to be in the mold of Sydell's Nomad in New York. I checked out the Nomad and the lobby and rooms have an old library feel to it. Kinda reminds me of a hotel Bruce Wayne would stay in.

My question that i will pose for the day:
After completion and launch of ParkMGM, where will it be listed on the tier of properties on MGMs lineup?

Will it remain in the tier 3 (Luxor, NYNY), bump up to tier 2 (MGM, Mirage, Mandalay Bay), or will it have the potential to move into tier 1 (Bellago, Aria)?

I would bet (this is a Vegas board after all) that it would be in the slot between 1-2. I expect the property to be the 3rd best in MGMs arsenal behind Bellagio and Aria.

It's difficult for me to imagine it wouldn't be above Mandalay and Mirage in terms of pricing. At least in terms of what their goal is.

I wonder what kind of progress they will have by mid June. I was looking at their prices and they are well below the other hotels nearby. I will be using a free night from MyVegas so maybe it will be worth it stay at NYNY for the higher rate. Going to a concert at MGM on June 17 and I learned my lesson last time that if you are seeing a concert there you better have a hotel within walking distance or else you will be waiting forever to get where you are going.

Additional notes.... Brand steakhouse was closed with a sign that said "seasonal closing" which I thought was very strange.
Lobby looked nice but was VERY small...about 8-10 agent spots total and I can see the lines being horrible at busy check in/out times...

Can you still walk from MC to Aria without going outside? Or is that blocked off due to construction?

Unless something has changed recently there was still the underground pathway (the city of dreams or whatever). It is under construction with walls up, but you could still walk through there not that long ago.

I've never stayed at MC and only gambled there for 5 minutes on a penny machine a year and a half ago. I'm getting comped mid week room offers from them now. I'm assuming because of all the construction. I booked 2 comped nights in July that I'll probably end up cancelling because my wife thinks I'm crazy to go to Vegas 4 times in one year....Some people just don't understand :D

    Hey all,
Am assuming the walk from carpark to the lobby/check-in is almost the same (apart from lobby is further into the casino as I read above) ?
I'll be there over Memorial Weekend (comp), gonna try my dam hardest to get up from Monaco into Diamond..

Also, when checking in, is there some benches to sit on nearby ? as if there is a queue, i'll leave the wife with the bags and she'll be wanting to sit down! :)

There is limited seating. Depending on your check in time, I've seen the queue length and it can be horrendous.

So, unless you are a suite guest or MLIFE higher member, it's a long wait.

The check in area is now located inside the casino. The rennovations are not actually causing much of a disruption to the casino nor the rooms. The noise (if you are looking out to the pool) is terrible. Really bad, if you leave your window slightly open.

Other than that, it's business as usual. They are turning this place into a boutique Aria (apparently). You can therefore expect higher requirements to stay here (on comps) or standard room charges when it's complete.
