I have not done this in 10 years so my memory is hazy. You used to have to dash across a really busy road and then walk through a parking garage to get to the Gold Coast...it that still the case?
Did they ever put a light there so people won't get killed?
I think I remember a light at the corner but I am not sure....
Does anyone have more current info?

I hear ya Blonde, even the walk now takes me some time..Not sure about heading over to the Palms on foot now crossing Flamingo..That was always scarier for me than Valley View even with suitcase..

We will be spending some time at the Rio and would rather go to the cheaper buffets at Gold Coast and the Palms.
I think there is a light to cross to the Palms...I would not attempt it otherwise.

In addition to the light and crosswalk, there is also a pedestrian path in the GC parking garage now too. There are lights to cross to Palms. I find it easier to use the light on the far end of Gold Coast directly across from Palms; less busy than crossing at the Rio corner.

Yup, too many people were jaywalking to get across the Rio to the Gold Coast (and back) so they had to do something to prevent injury or deaths. I myself did that a few times.

I remember, nobody wanted to walk all the way to the intersection with Flamingo and just jaywalked to get across the street to the GC.

it is a bit scary even with the light. it always seems like all of the cars are going way over the speed limit on Flamingo and Tropicana. if one fails to stop it would be horrible.

I'll have to check out that light at the end of GC. I stay at Rio, and I like to migrate over to the Palms, But I've always considered crossing Flamingo, even with the light, to be evidence of a death wish.

Wow..that doesn't sound good...maybe we will just stick with going over to the Gold Coast and skip the Palms. Thanks everybody!

I've done the walk to the Palms dozens of times. I've never had a problem crossing with the light from the GC. As for Rio to GC, although that light has been in place for awhile there are still drivers that aren't used it so I'd use more caution crossing Valley View than I would crossing Flamingo. But it's Vegas, you always have to be aware when crossing a street regardless of traffic lights.

Why do you find it dangerous? We stay at Gold Coast and Rio often. Have probably visited Palms from those properties many times. Have also Stayed at Palms and visited Rio and Gold Coast from there. Still no worries.

Crossing from the GC to the Palms means 8 lanes and I think the signal has a timer of 30 seconds.First you have to make sure everyone stops for the red light, there;s turning lanes into and out of the valet area, cabs in a rush and locals pissed at the red light with tourists crossing in front of them And this in daylight.I'm not 20 anymore to speedwalk,so it is a PIA.
Nothing I want to do at the Palms anymore actually so won't go this trip.Maybe in Sept with rental car my buddy always gets..

I have stayed there recently enough to enjoy the lighted crosswalk but not the pedestrian path through the garage. I always felt uneasy in that garage.

The pedestrian path in the garage of the Gold Coast is great. I wouldn't feel comfortable walking through it alone late at night though.

I cross lower down and walk up past the bus stop. Not so many obstacles there, so less of a worry for me. I understand why you wouldn't want to chance it though.

I see a couple people mention they don't like the Gold Coast garage. I've used that garage hundreds of times and never seen anything or anyone that would make me nervous. JMHO
