Because of some repeated abuse of the system, we've changed the Post Ratings slightly.

We have removed the "Dislike" and "Disagree" buttons. In their place, we've added "Love" and "Wow!"

Works for me - but for a totally different reason....

I primarily use my iPad mini....
The spacing between the ratings buttons is very narrow...
I tend to be fat fingered when selecting a rating, maybe because heaven forbid I have fat fingers...
Put all of that together, and well, if I'm not extra judicious about double checking, I have given someone a rating other than the one intended. Sometimes a dislike when I meant something positive - hope I caught and fixed those :()....
Now, if I fat finger accidentally, no harm done :D.

( shhh, don't tell @Richard Alpert this, because he thinks I actually like and agree with all his posts and that they are funny).

I guess I'd want to know more about the deleted options. I, for one, only used dislike or disagree sparingly. For example, if someone said, "Circus Circus is the best hotel on the Strip," I'd click on disagree. But that's not like flaming the person where I write some diatribe about them being a lunatic or an imbecile or the portmanteau of those, "lunacile". It's just that I see it differently. And if I AM abusive, then it's not really because of the dislike/disagree buttons, it's because of the very diatribe I just stated I try to avoid. So I guess I can't see how buttons themselves can constitute "abuse"? Not trying to be contrary, just curious as to how much harm a button can cause. I dunno...maybe those buttons *led* to diatribes when the person who got disliked/disagreed with then got offended.

Anyway it's fine with me, although I preferred the broader spectrum of the old approach.

I agree with geogran. My fingers would hit something, and most of the time I wouldn't catch it. Good call.

LOL, I can see feelings getting hurt with the disagree or dislike. I remember I got a few dislikes from people on weird posts like: "who wants to take the lead on planning a get together"

I know we're in the overtly sensitive generation, but getting dislikes or disagrees with zero context can certainly cause discord, particularly in a forum that's oriented towards friendly advice and hooker stories.

Yes, could you elaborate on this? In what sense could one abuse a " dislike" rating?

People love to troll, I can imagine serial dislikers on this board, particularly with controversial topics that come up.

You are among the majority. :) Unfortunately enough people misused the system that it became a headache for me to manage. There have been more complaints than you would think.

Typically the issues revolved around one user getting a dislike, so they go rate the other person's posts with a dislike. And back and forth it goes until they both complain about the other in my mailbox. One person actually went back through 18 months of posts that all had to be edited by me. It just had become more trouble than it is worth.

Most people used the system the way it was intended, but a few bad apples spoiled the bunch.

Indeed, one should never feed the trolls! OTOH, one could simply bounce them. Doesn't really matter to me as I don't think I used those ratings.

Ah. Well that kind of behavior is unfortunate and messes it up for those of us who want to be judicious. Oh, well...nothing else you could do then, Sonya. I respect your judgment on this and appreciate your willingness to explain.

What about if that person who said "Circus Circus is the best hotel on the Strip" offended by your "disagree" and then found all your posts, some of them 5 years ago, and marked all of them with "dislike", "disagree"?
    You still prefer those options?

Would never have occurred to me that people are that petty ( or to do such a thing) but some appear to be, alas.

Haha! Too many digit options get me into trouble.
With my fat fingers, let's hope there are never any third digit options

Or that on the other hand someone would give two shits if a small minded person with time to do that...

So basically a post can only receive a positive "participation trophy" now so no one gets their feelings hurt by random internet strangers?
