Was pleasantly surprised to get a mailing the other day offering 3 free nights at Golden Gate. I know the rooms are quite small but am tempted because I do enjoy the casino and haven't stayed downtown in a few years. Does anyone know if they charge the resort fee on a comped room?

They didn't charge us last month on the comped rooms.

There's no resort fee on their comped rooms. You might also see if they'll transfer that over to TheD. They have larger rooms, and are owned by the same people.

I got the same mailer. First time ever. I am assuming this only applys to a regular room not a suite? Not sure if I would stay in their regular rooms...

Yeah, first time I have ever gotten a mailer from them. Like spending time downtown but not going to pay to stay when I can stay on or near the Strip for free.

What kind of play did you give them? Was looking at getting on their comp radar on my next trip since I liked the casino, but didn't have the chance to gamble there my last trip. I have to think it doesn't take much.

...no resort fee on comped rooms, but no free wifi either since that is covered by the resort fee. They want $9.99/day for wifi. Also, comp mailer will say "suite" if they are offering it otherwise it is just the standard room. Give it a try. A totally different vibe than the Strip. Fremont Street to your room in less than 60 seconds...very cool. Just request a room that is not overlooking Fremont. Your window will still rattle until 0200 hours+ regardless, but I like it...

Yes, beware - the single-bed comped room face out onto Fremont or Main St, both equally loud until the wee hours. Bring ear plugs. Comfortable enough bends and a radio that plays soothing nature sounds to lull a person to sleep.

I have stayed there a few times, yes it is small, but ok for a solo traveler. I just wish I could get some offers from them or the D. I need some new relationships now that boyds has turned cold.

I got an offer for about 90 mins of $20-30 bet blackjack plus a small amount of slot play. It does have a qualifier about limitations on dates that I have not looked into.

This is the sort of place you could get a room offer for just by gambling for a bit when you are downtown.

I do mean to try this somewhere else downtown to see what offers come from that just for my curiosity, as I'm not super excited to stay at the GG.

One thing which people may not realize is that you can pay the difference between the standard room and the suite rate as an "upgrade fee" on a comp offer. I did it the last trip and enjoyed the suite - since they face main or the back side of the building there is no noise like the standard rooms. During the week the difference is usually $40-50 per night between the two rooms, FWIW.

    TBD, next trip

Did you try offering a $20 sandwich instead?

Stayed there twice on a comp. They have always tried to upsell to a bigger more quiet room. I declined and stuck with the small, clean, functional room. I tried to get a free upgrade to a suite in November as it was our anniversary, no dice. But she did add a comped meal at DuPars. (Nice touch). Someday I'll stay in a suite.

As for the noise. The Fremont street bands never bothered me but the asshat taxis blowing their horns pissed me off.

BTW, while I'm all about saving money, the wife enjoys the GG rooms.

Yeah, I was planning to play around the same. I'm staying at Four Queens for a night. Have no history downtown, so was going to give Four Queens and Golden Gate equal action and see what comes about.

This is the only place I have ever gotten comped rooms, based on perhaps $300 run through video poker. No "resort" fees and yes bathrooms are a joke, but the beds were fine and my room was far from noisy.

Really, if we're talking downtown and you're not at GN, the Grand or MSS/the Cal, your room is basically just a place to crash for a few hours

If you're getting comped rooms at GG, I'd email a host. They might be able to move it over to The D. I just can't wait until they just have 1 card for their property's.

They have ear plugs at the front desk. I once had a room facing the canopy. I asked for a room away from the canopy, but they didn't have any left, so the clerk at the front desk offered ear plugs. Worked like a charm. It was the best night of sleep I've ever had in Las Vegas.

I just got back from LV and one guy in our group took advantage of the three night free offer. He only lasted one night before switching over to the Nugget.
