This was my actual bill. The room rate was $45.

Hawaii people have you ever attended a "Mahalo party," by Boyd in Hawaii (see below). This was written by Boyd's director in communications on the LVA website.

"Our most established tourist base is Hawaii, which has been the primary feeder market for the California [Hotel] (and our other downtown properties) for more than 40 years now. Hawaiian visitors account for about two-thirds of our room nights at the California (and between 40-50 percent at the Fremont and Main Street Station), so this remains an extremely important source of business to us. We have diligently focused on maintaining and strengthening those relationships over the years. Many of the California’s amenities (especially the restaurants) are geared toward Hawaiian customers, our employees typically wear Hawaiian apparel, and we regularly host ‘Mahalo parties’ in Hawaii to say thanks to our customers and promote our property. We also run five charter flights a week between Las Vegas and Honolulu. As a result, we are by far the favored destination of Hawaiian visitors to Las Vegas.

Guess I don't gamble enough to get invited. I had friends who get the invite though. But they gamble enough to get RFB and even limo service and they usually go to vegas at least 5x a year from Honolulu.

It must be for Emerald level players only. And maybe Oahu residents only. I wonder if someone from Kauai, Maui, Molokai, or the Big Island would want to fly to Honolulu having to pay $150 - $200 roundtrip airfare and $250 a night hotel for a $75 buffet value at Sheraton Waikiki, unless Boyd pays for their airfare/hotel too.

As promised that I would report back about this. I'm currently in my parents rooms at the Cal (I'm staying at Downtown Grand tonight and visiting them) and I noticed this on their room key card holder thingy.

And BTW, the Market street café is closed tonight for the monthly cleaning, they closed at 10:00 pm. I was lucky to have gotten there at 9:40 pm and was one of the last people to be let inside. I believe they close 1 Tuesday a month but it could be every other Tuesday. I should have asked but forgot to ask the staff. Anyone knows about exactly which Tuesdays they close?

A family friend gave me this Aloha coupon book. I am appreciative and it looks like I will be eating good for the next 5 days/nights.

Is this for Cal guests only, Boyds only, or anyone to use. Says pool is on Cal west tower 13th floor. And pool is on rooftop. Did they change the floor numbers for east and west wings. 13th floor Cal was low number floor at west wing before. East was 1-12 and west started at 13-25?

The free wifi is for anyone to use. The pool was always on the west 13th floor.

Edit to add: to use the free wifi you need to input your Bconnected number as the password. It's not up and running yet. I tried many times but couldn't connect.

West Tower still starts at 13. The pool was never really on the rooftop. Just a little jut-out on the 13th. We were on the 14th floor 2 weeks ago, which meant the 4th floor in terms of height. Lobby, Mezanine, 13th and then us.

Cool. As many times we have stayed at Cal or MSS, never did look for the pool. Always just thought it was on the roof of the west tower.

Just be warned, it is a tiny pool.

My group had this about 1am Monday morning after the superbowl,, was so good and really helped to sober me up for the long 730am flight home...the rice gets a bit overwhelming about half way through though

And if you notice in his picture, in addition to the rice he also had toast with it. I get the feeling that the toast was part of the loco breakfast. Yup, nothing like an extra starch with my starchy meal. :poke:

I visited the pool once, just to get a look see. You need your room key card to open the door to the pool area. There is a locker to get your towels, some lounge chairs and a water fountain but not much else in the area. One thing though, I noticed that the LVC tower blocks out the sun in the AM so the pool stays cold most of the day.

Actually the pool is on the roof.....technically on the roof of the casino (or rather 2nd floor casino).

I will be staying at the Cal in about 5 weeks so I will check out the gym area. Let's see if they actually purchased a universal machine or just have some free weights in addition to a treadmill and stairmaster.

Does anyone know if the whole hotel is upgraded or just a part?
If it's partial, which part do I ask for when booking?
