After seeing a video on VMB of the remodeled, West Tower rooms at Cal, we asked our host to book us a suite there instead of MSS. They did a nice job. No more tubs. Walk-in shower and a fancy shower head. Here are a few pictures:

My photographer (my wife) didn't take a picture of the TV setup, but here is one from a suite in 2016. Very similar, but I think the new TV is bigger. Fridge is below TV and it is a nice size one.

Thanks for sharing the pics. Looks updated & refreshed.

Now here's my nit picky comment: The commode looks to be adult height now. Yay! I hope these were put in the regular rooms also. I have mumbled & grumbled for years about the short "elementary school" height commodes. My knees are old and worn out. They complained a lot at The Cal. As I said, not a biggie, just a nit pick.

...now, if only Boyd would do a similar remodel of the Fremont!
Sure - they'd lose some rooms in the process of making the remainder a bit more livable, but those Cal pics are enough to motivate me to change my Boyd "home casino" to the Cal from the Fremont.

Thanks for the pictures. I'm glad that they have in-counter sinks unlike some of the other hotels which have those sinks above the counter. I'm also glad that they have enclosed walk in showers, unlike some hotels that have those showers with a glass partition that only go half way.

I will be staying at the Cal in April, will be asking for a west tower room. Hopefully they will have renovated all the rooms with walk in showers by then.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.....love the bathroom with the huge walk in shower.

I have lost track of how many years we have made the CAL our home away from home.....we always felt like it was our little secret, i.e., not overly crowded, never an issue finding a blackjack table, etc. I just hope with all the upgrades, the casino/hotel continues to have the feeling of Cheers..."where everyone knows your name".

Yes, MSS is our Cheers, but the new rooms at Cal are so much better. We stopped getting a suite at MSS because of the noise of the freeway and trains, so we were just getting standard rooms. The noise never bothered me much until the last 3 years or so. Now we can go back to a nice suite and a quiet room at Cal.

We still did all our Boyd gambling at MSS, but I stopped into the new Cal sportsbook one morning to say hello to a bartender friend and it looks like they have increased their VP tables a bit from the horrible cuts they made after the remodel. I saw $ DDB at 9/5 which is the same as at MSS. But, Cal used to be 9/6. I think they had cut it all the way to 7/5 DDB when we were there in Dec.

I didn't check out the other games, or if every machine paytable was the same on the same games. I was in a hurry.

Were they progressives? Even if they are not, it sounds like the might be playable.

What floors are the suites, is it 13th floor? A friend once had a suite which I recall was on the 13th floor, or maybe the 14th floor.

VP tables improving. That's something you don't hear very often.

Thanks for the pictures. I've been thinking about making focusing my play at The Cal to get some better offers there.

Interesting. I always thought that they had suites on every floor, on the south side of the elevators (low number). I had a friend who had a suite, I forget what his room number was but it was to the left of the elevators (south side) and a low number. Actually the room was right behind the wall across the elevators. He didn't have much of a view, could see the binions parking garage, binions and part of the old LVC.

btw, I thought that in the west tower they start the floors from 13 so 14th floor is one of the lower floors.

Our room was 1435 and yes, we faced the parking garage. Also you are correct, the floor numbers are a continuation of the East tower. So floor 14 is the 4th floor up. Lobby, Mezanine, 13 and then 14.

Exiting the elevators, we turned right and had to go past the ice machine to get to the room. I have no clue if there are only suites on one floor. A different poster brought that up. When I say a long walk, it is relative. We got used to MSS and exiting the single elevator and being 5 steps from our suite.
