    Hello Everyone,

My Wife and I are returning to Vegas this coming June, and we're planning on spending a night or two spanning off from the usual strip hotels/ resorts. Some of the places that look ineresting to us so far are:
    *Westgate
    *Palace Station
    *Gold Coast
    *Circus Circus
    *The Orleans
We're looking for some feedback on any of these places, so if we cannot make them all, we'll know which places are the best to see. I grabbed what info I could from their websites, but it's hard to tell from that sometimes. Also, some of these resorts don't advertise any bars or lounges, just restaurants. Any info on bars/ lounges would be appreciated!! Does any one of these stand out to anybody as having been a really good or bad experience? Any standout restaurants? A couple of them have bowling alleys, which is different, and the Slots of Fun at Circus Circus looks like it may be fun. Anyway, any and all comments are welcome!! Thanks!!

    Gregg.

It's all subjective of course but here's my take:

Westgage: Nothing special about it. Historically it's where Elvis once performed if that means anything to you
Palace Station: Cheap gambling but otherwise nothing worthy
Gold Coast - Cheap gambling. Good food (Ping Pang Pong). Across the street from Palms and Rio.
CC - Historically an interesting place but a dump now. Great steakhouse though
Orleans - Cheap gambling. The place is always hopping. Very lively. Great craps IMHO

I don't play slots so I can't speak to that. Some of these may have unique slot options that aren't available elsewhere. PS, GC and Orleans will have better slot payouts than the strip no doubt.

    1. Orleans
    • Rooms are bigger than most other entry level rooms.
    • A little something for everyone. Variety of restaurants (cheap to moderately expensive).
    • Big Al's Oyster Bar.
    • Craps tables are always fun here.
    • Poker room is decent and the variety of slots is really good.
    • Solid buffet for the price.
    • Nothing else near it, but there is a shuttle to the strip and to the Gold Coast.
    2. Gold Coast
    • Bingo.
    • Ping Pang Pong.
    • Buffet not as good as The Orleans.
    • Close to Rio and Palms
    • Shuttle to the strip

I made my first trip to the Orleans this past December, now mind you it was during the Rodeo Finals and they one of the places that hosted events.

The gambling was cheap and laid back. We played $5 Craps and Roulette. The Roulette dealer was really nice as my wife had never played before. One of the Craps dealers had a problem with base 10 math but it was all good. The boss man could add things up. They appeared to have lots of slot choices. We sat near what I think is front doors (facing the Strip) near washrooms and bar playing for awhile. My friend played VP and drank with no problems.

They had $2 Bud Lights and lots of music in one little area where people were dancing. Could have been a bar area but again the Rodeo was on full tilt.

We didn't eat but the place did not appear smokey to me and looked clean.

We got a free two night offer mailed to us and w are talking about taking them up on it.

Don't know if you've thought of it, but I LOVE Southpoint, and so do many others on here. Great food, gambling, movies, bowling, etc. Easy comps. Spend some time on the website or search for it on here. Lots of great comments

    *Westgate
underwhelming when it was LV Hilton and don't know if they've invested enough to change that - haven't stayed there though
    *Palace Station
haven't been; won't ever live down OJ connection for me
    *Gold Coast
one of my faves, cozy hotel, nice casino, great restaurants
    *Circus Circus
pass based on casino - haven't stayed there though/technically on the strip
    *The Orleans
Love it. Great hotel room and fun casino, nice restaurant lineup.

All these places have bars/lounges; just not necessarily hipster quality ones.

You don't mention your transportation plans so I don't know if it's worth mentioning places further from the strip that would be nicer than some of the ones on the list.

Stayed there last spring while doing a conference at the LVCC.

Room was fine. No complaints. Clean, quiet, comfortable, and roomy enough for me for a few days.

Buffet was great, but not open all days. Coffee shop was good but a bit spendy.

Fair selection of the slots and VP I like.

    That's the good news.

Bad news is that the timeshare hustlers were thicker than I had ever seen, anywhere! They were literally blocking every path to and from the casino and the shops and the hotel elevator. They were hitting on solo women too, not just couples!

If you are just "visiting", I think a stop at Circus Circus would be okay. You just have to experience it - once. I would not plan to spend much time there.

Have stayed at both Orleans and Westgate, neither recently. Westgate had the better beds at the time. Orleans had by far the better food options and much more playable
video poker machines which makes sense given that they target locals.

Gold Coast has a much older clientele. They have JOB which I've never seen at Orleans. Their buffet, though cheap, seems to me barely edible. Like food your 90 year old
grandmother tells you to eat because it'll make you big and strong. Ping Pang Pong is reason enough to stop there all by itself.

Unless you're going for The Steak House best to just stay away from Circus. This is the real reason clowns scare people.

We used to have a great time in the Circus Circus area. But they closed Westward Ho, Silver City, Riviera, Stardust, Frontier and SlotsOfFun is now Slots of Nofun. They replaced the table games with Beer Pong????

I do recommend the Steak House at CC as others have.

Ya know, it's REALLY getting bad when people start posting about Circus and SOF in an "Off-Strip" thread! :(

If you enjoy the risk of being robbed or creeped out on vacation, Circus Circus is your place.

Have you walked from Circus Circus to The STRAT late night recently?

Not since they closed the Stardust. However walking to the Strat is completely different than going into Circus Circus.
