Slots winning strategies for slots

What are your winning strategies for playing and winning at slots? Whenever I hit a bonus that pays well I know I should just cash out and go on to another machine, but I end up staying and spinning until all is lost. Any ideas on how many spins before cashing out and moving on?

 

Some people use a "Three strikes and out" strategy where if they don't win anything they leave after 3 spins. Honestly, just find something that's fun for you, because you can't play slots on the premise of winning money.

 

There really are no strategies on how to win at slots, well other than don't play them.

Sometimes I play until I hit a bonus round, then move to another machine. Mainly on Top Dollar or Quick Hit machines. Others, I play until I get a few hundred up then cash out. 99/100 times though, I burn through my buy-in thinking "If I can just get back to even!"

 

I like that "three strikes and out".

 

The only "strategy" is to play the max for a particular machine. Otherwise, if you win, good..if you lose..not good. You can't influence the machines no matter what you do, period! If there was a pattern or strategy or trick, Las Vegas would be a ghost town.

 

If we slot junkies knew the answer to that, the casinos would be out of business by now.

As slot players, each of us has to determine what our goal is and what level of tolerance we have for loss which determines when we walk away - many a time I have continued playing after a nice win, pushing for just one more hit which never came... or just because I didn't want to quit paying that machine.
Some are 'hit and run' players - that would be my husband, lol.
Others like to grind it out no matter what - my good friend, with rare exception, plays the exact same machine every single trip - she plays pennies in the $1-1.50 a spin range - and always goes home with very close to her original bankroll. Too boring for me but it suits her just fine.

My 'strategy' if there is such a thing on slots:

I start with a hundred; if the wins go above three or four hundred dollars, I usually cash out the TITO, put it in my purse, and start a new hundred - makes me think twice before playing it back into that machine or I cash it and start with hundreds again.
Any hand pay goes to the room, period. It took a lot of discipline and time to get to that point.
I tend to be a 'grinder' playing max on dollar slots (reels) and while I have won a lot of mighty nice jackpots, I have also lost a lot of bankroll in the process.
I tend to take the money and run on five and ten dollar reel slots, and don't always play max unless progressive warrants it.
if I get a nice bonus on pennies, I cash out after a few spins. I play penny slots to slow down my play as I rarely play max on pennies - more for diversion and to enjoy some of the graphics found on video slots - my husband and I have a good time playing these slots together but have never won a hand pay on pennies.

Here's my "Defensive" strategy. Stick whatever into machine, lets say its $100. If I get down about 60% and get back over the $100 its time to quit. If I get down 80% and get it back to 80% of my original investment then its time to quit.

 

If you want to guarantee a win then don't play them. There is a reason there are only 4-6 craps tables in a casino the size of Bellagio but 3,000 slot machines and it's not because they don't want to hire more dealers

My wife loves video slots but she does it because she has fun, yes she wants to win money but ultimately she likes the fun.

As for me my strategy is that I play machines that are 1) fun and 2) don't just take my money quickly. So for instance if I sit down and put a $20 in and I go through that $20 without ever going to a bonus or even really getting any kind of win I move on. It's not fun to me to watch $20 go away in a few minutes. I used to play $1 slots a lot more but like everything in the casinos the payback is set lower so now I am much more selective in what I play.

 

Like Geogran, I used to be a grinder, but realized if a machine goes cold, there's no way to know for how long. It's better to get up and move to something else. Conversely, I used to hop off at the first win, but, in my experience, sometimes a machone can have a warm spell, so I'll play a little longer. My rule is, cold, get off, warm, stay on. (And if I do move, I do NOT stay close enough to see if it hits, but that's me!)

Also, it kills me, but I DO have to agree with Max bet if you the payouts are much higher with max bet. I'll play 1.50 a spin Quick Hit at max, versus a 3.00$ Quick Hit at a partial bet. It's just too annoying to hit a mini (or more) jackpot and not get it due to lower bets, but that's my two cents.

But the biggiest rule, is set limits and don't go above what you're OK spending/losing. If a win comes GREAT, but just remember, there is a reason the casinos are so gorgeous..our pocketbooks! and that is not a lecture for you personally but just in general, that all of us "slot slugs" as Geogran nailed it, have to remember!

 

My non-winning slot strategy : I get on a machine and plan on doing the "3 strike you're out" rule but then think, there's no way I won't win 4 times in a row... 5 times.... 6... 7... ok this is the last one... boom. 10 credit bet wins 10 credits. oh yeah. I knew it. cycle goes on until my money in is gone. Don't do this. lol.

 

Slot strategies from best to worst:

- Never play them
- Play them with the lowest possible amount, that would still create some fun and buzz
- Play them at the level you feel like you wouldn't worry if all that money was lost
- Play like a zombie and keep regretting after every $20/$100 bill

I go with number two, and that amount is $0.20-$0.40 a spin for me.

 

I guess this would qualify as a strategy ... This is the way I often play them.

I consider that I've "won" a session when I double my money or more, at which time I'll usually cash out, or get a very good combination payout or bonus, at which time I'll cash out, or get way down and all of a sudden catch up to my original, again, at which time I'll usually cash out.

Rarely, if I just get tired of the machine, or have to be somewhere, or have to take a bio break, I'll just cash out then and there whatever is there and consider it neither a win or a loss.

I consider that I've "lost" if my money is gone, or (more frequently lately) gets down to less than one minimum spin, at which time I'll cash out the "runt" TITO.

I almost never will pull out another bill and put it in the same machine after I lose what I'm playing.

 

I must amend my earlier post. I do have a "strategy" of sorts. I tend not to ever play machines that can only potentially pay on the center pay line (reels) and not have any other position or secondary, etc payoff or "bonus" potential. As in the case of the Red White and Blue and/or Black Tie ones, the bottom line will at least pay something if you get a line across. Others have multipliers and diagonal pay lines as well. These at least increase the ways of winning as opposed to hoping to get whatever the theme of the game is lined up across only the middle. So, that can be considered a strategy, or is it a superstition...?

 

I agree with you @martinr. I think that is a strategy. I enjoy playing slots so I enjoy the graphics, the seats, the sound design, etc. Basic 3-reel slots with one pay line I just simply find uninteresting.

 

My wife is a big slots player. She will burn through $100 waiting for a jackpot no problem, but as soon as she hits one (especially if she is now ahead of what she originally put in the machine) she prints out and goes to a different machine.

 

Slot Strategy:

1. Insert Money
2. Pray
3. Hit button until big win or you go broke...

 

I'm paying the slot for my entertainment. No hard feelings If I lose $100 as long as I am entertained.
