    Hi all:

My wife and I just got back a few weeks ago from a mid-December trip and stayed at the 4Q (for he first time....not a bad room!). Anyway, I had a great time low rolling downtown and we spent most of our time gambling downtown. Wifey did a spa day and I enjoyed some time at the Boar's head and playing single deck at El Cortez. We spent a solid portion of the trip together, but also a solid portion separate. I am 33, happily married with two kids. I already have the itch to return, but my wife not so much. I am broaching the idea of traveling alone in March/April for a long weekend for some VP and Blackjack. I don't gamble at my local casino, so Vegas is my outlet. My question is who has travelled solo like this and what pitfalls should I expect? I have enough airline miles for my flight and hopefully will have a room offer from this last trip. I am a low roller with a $2-3K budget each trip. What tips/tricks would you have? Sorry for the long post! Am I crazy for wanting to go back so soon? Thanks and Happy New Year VMBers!

There are no pitfalls to traveling Las Vegas alone. I always act like I am with a big group just for stranger danger. You can check out your own interests, sleep, eat, where when you want. It is easy to talk and laugh with people and move on. Iowa, has the getaway need. I go 5x a year alone {whoo whoo}, or with significant other out of Moline IL. .

Most of my trips are solo, and I really like it. I talk to the people at the table. I eat when I want, I sleep when I want. I go, and see a show if I want. It's pretty relaxing. You don't have to keep asking someone else what they want to do. And, downtown I think is a nice place to do it. There's a lot of different choices close by.

    What full boat said.

It is liberating as you have to meet no ones expectations other than your own. And downtown is the place as things are so close together, 2$ wax bus ride from the airport if times line up for your flight, etc. Search the board as there are a number of topics like best restaurant, best vp, pizza, secrets and nooks in downtown etc. Be sure to call the wife at least once while gone. Have a great time.

'Bout sums it up for me, except I'm more of a Strip guy. The other advantage about going solo is that you needn't worry about the timeshare sh*t.

I an a strip person, too, always go solo and have been approached twice by the timeshare people. First one was a bit pushy, but i got rid of him quickly (I made the mistake of stopping when he said something to me). The second one, I just kept on walking, gave a very short answer and never looked back at her.

I have evolved to worse than timeshare. I had maybe a monk, in an orange robe, come up to me in front of Caesars and said peace to you and put a stretchy bead bracelet on my wrist. He bowed and asked for donation. I told him he was not a sure charity. He took the stretchy bracelet back. He had no shame. He went to a wheelchair guy and did it to him.

In the last two years I've made 14 trips, only was the most recent in Dec with the wife. Don't get me wrong, I love my wife, but going solo is the most fun for me. I think going solo & staying downtown is perfect combination. Because I go to often, I've made lot friends downtown so I don't feel like I'm alone. My favorite bartender at the gate makes it a point to introduce me not only her co-workers but other regulars. I've become good friends with a couple from San Diego and we sometimes time our trips to coincide. Before I met V, I would be lucky if I made 3 trips a year.

I am on the opposite side of this thread. Although it sounds like it could be fun going alone, I think I would get bored and lonely after the first day. My spouse and I travel well together and keep each other good company. Besides, there is no way in hell she would let me go without her!! :nono:

There is certainly nothing wrong with going solo, but there are two sides to the story as well. Personally, I fall into the camp that really doesn't enjoy a solo trip (or at least not as much). For some people, they love not having to compromise on anything, the freedom to go and do what they want. However, for me I found when I was solo (for a couple days, not an entire trip), the freedom was nice, but I got a bit lonely. My meals I ate at the bar, which was hit or miss for social activity. If the bartender isn't talkative or busy, and there's nobody to chat to around you, it's a bit boring. Furthermore, I found myself gambling a lot more, and at times just going through the motions. However, I can definitely see the appeal for some people if they have no problem doing things on their own. I just found that gambling was the only thing to do in order to get any real social activity, and that can get expensive quickly. To each their own though, I'd definitely take a solo trip over no trip!

Wow I didn't realize there are many solo travelers here....l I had to canceled past two trips because wife couldn't go...

First one, Aria comped for 3 nights with Andrea bocelli tickets comped!!! - canceled because wife couldn't go!!!
Second, miage comped for 3 nights NYE with Bruno Mars tickets comped at Park theater!!! - canceled because wife couldn't go!!!

Now, wife said I can go myself but shit I know the consequences I can see it miles ahead...she's "okay" but if I went she would call me every half hour and when I get back she really wouldn't talk to me lol I know the drill. So we have a trip together coming up in March also going to concert... besides I be bored without her being there.... I'm surprised most guys would love to go without their wives. I mean, I would go with my friends but not just myself I think it would be boring, but regardless I give those solo guys lots of credits!!!

I've done solo trips and trips with a friend. I like a mixture. In general I need my alone time, which in Vegas means gambling. But I do like eating with friends. For my next trip it's a bachelor party but I'm going 2 days early to get my gamble on.

I say go, strip or downtown, whatever your preference and budget is. Being solo in Vegas is great if you like being solo. I'm a strip person but have tried downtown. One thing for me is that I like to walk, so when I stayed downtown I ended up walking to the outlets every day. That got boring, if I was on the strip I'd have a more entertaining walk. But downtown has the beautiful oasis that is Main Street Station. So it's just a matter of what you like.

Well said. The exact reasons why I consider solo trips and never do it. If you arent gambling it gets very boring doing things alone. Eating alone I dont mind bec even if I go with someone we wind up gambling differently and picking up meals on our own. I travel from NY so it has to be a 4 night trip at least and after 1 day I will feel lonely. I admire those who can do it as I cannot.

When I went to Vegas for Christmas a few years ago I went solo. I met with a friend who lives in Vegas for Christmas Eve dinner at Rao's. But the rest I was alone but I did a VMB meetup. 4 of us had brunch on Christmas Eve, it was nice. It was a couple and and another guy who was doing the same things as me, getting away from family. Me and him got together for Christmas dinner and played drunk poker afterwards. It was fun.

My point, try to meet up with other solo Vegas people.

90% or more of my Vegas trips have been solo. I doubt if there is a better, or easier place in the world to do a solo trip. one of the worst things that I can think of is the hookers. if you are a middle-aged male walking alone or hanging out alone, the hookers are relentless. but it is not a game changer, I ignore them, or tell them that I am broke and they move one.
