Yeah, today LVA had an update today citing perspectives from various folks giving mixed messages about Alon's future. Also found a nugget indicating work on Resorts World is being pushed back yet again. This after Alon updated their website with a cutesy "coming soon-ish" cartoon and RW tweeting out pictures of their parking garage and of a design meeting.

Its been now close to six years since we're seen a newly built place arise on the Strip (Cosmo in 2010) and Vegas nerds are really excited about having some new places on the Blvd to check out, but I wonder why I even care so much. Won't these places likely still have the same crappy gambling odds that overtaken the rest of the Strip.

I've been a downtown guy for some time now and am looking forward to what Derek Stevens does with the LVC and adjacent plots more than anything on the Strip. I just wish Genting and Crown would stop with the cute teases.

I'd like to play a game of wishful thinking, but it would be nice if Wynn could get a hold of the property and do something with it. Even if it was to rebuild his golf course so they can start on his new tower.

Yeah Shock, Steve Wynn can still generate a lot of excitement with his project plans, and I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't looking forward to Paradise Park being constructed. Heck, at this rate, it'll probably open before either Resorts World or Alon!

Having said that, its not the same as a standalone resort. Wynn apparently had conversations with the previous owners of the Alon parcel, but he didn't want to take the plunge at the time. But as these projects become delayed more and more, you can't rule out the Steve becoming involved at some point if there's a juicy Strip-front area that he thinks will generate revenue.

One can only hope that a new New Frontier or Stardust will be built there. Or whatever.

I see his point, but lack of ability to get financing normally = dead project.

It pains me to say it--because I'm as voracious a consumer of all things Vegas as the next VMB poster--but I don't know if I can take much more of "Chuckmonster" and company. He self-righteously chastises the lowly, misinformed "internet peanut gallery" (who are nothing compared to his own Internet Mafia, of course) spreading rumors about Alon's demise. If only we could all be on the receiving end of as many cold calls full of "secrets" like the ones he gets from his friend Andrew, the CEO of a thing that exists only on paper...

I hope Alon happens but, Chuck's "confirmation" aside, I am doubtful.

Good Jeebus I haven't heard the podcast this month but that PDF is awful.

"Not all things to all people - the right things to the right people". Seriously? Who precisely does Alon deem to be the "right" people? And all the twee, elitist cartoons. I hope this place continues to be the big sandy lot it is now, but hey, throw a few more hundred thousand into making horrid brochures for your vaporware resort.

    Twee.

    Bonus points for that one!

It looks like, from the brochure, that the 'a' is for 'a'sshole. What a bunch of pretentious dickheads. BTW I am very self-aware, do I get in?

It would at least be funny if they referenced the pretentiousness, and mocked it a little, because it's written at a parody-level but without any parody. Reminds me of that George Clooney "Las Ramblas" resort where they were considering a dress code and wanting to bring back the Rat Pack style era. While it's great to dress up for a night out, the modern Vegas casino has well-dressed clubbers along with people wearing sweatpants hitting Buffalo and Cleo. You have to have the mid-level players to survive, can't just be targeted to the wealthy.

Not to mention the whale on vacation might not WANT to dress up in a suit and tie when he's trying to relax...

Exactly.... all these people standing around in tuxedos and evening gowns. And here's yet ANOTHER place trumpeting about it's "unmatched luxury and sophistication." Give me a break.

This is why it mystifies me that luxury retail malls like Crystals can remain in business in Vegas. When is the last time you were walking down the strip, or were in a high limits salon, or were ANYWHERE in town and saw someone wearing Prada or Valentino? Where are all these "sophisticates" that Alon is pre-marketing to?

They are out there. I always see them in the high limit rooms or nicer restaurants on the weekends. But there aren't a lot of them.

And this isn't exactly breaking news, but I walked around the Alon site last week and there is still zero progress and no sign of anything being done. At least the Resorts World site has security guards on property. There is nothing at Alon

It's funny, the Vegas tripping people were so offended when Steve Wynn said that, "Nobody likes to be around poor people, especially poor people". But when Alon says their property is essentially for the "right people", the trippers are fine with that. To me, Wynn said an awkward, old man, type statement. I really think that he's just saying that people of all economic means sometimes like luxury. I never felt uncomfortable walking through Wynncore in a t-shirt and shorts. I never felt like I wasn't the right person in the right place.

No offense to old men, I will be one before I know it and I hope I'm grumpy.

The thing that really annoys me about Alon is that Wynn closed Society Café so that they could relocate their poker room and build a bridge to grab the people going to Alon. Now that the project is DOA, we are out our favorite breakfast place. Wel,l formerly favorite. We'll find a new one. :(
