So, I am visiting Las Vegas with my younger brother without our wives for SuperBowl weekend. I live in Seattle, he lives in Miami, so we don't see each other a whole lot. Both of our wives are letting us off the leash for a few days to meet up and hang out for a few days. We are hoping for a Steelers appearance in Superbowl LI, I am still confident there is a decent chance, but I am not holding my breath when there are some clear front runners ahead at this point of the season. I have been to Vegas a few times and my brother has never been. In fact he's never been out of the Eastern time zone before. So I want to make sure he has a good Vegas experience with it being his first trip. My brother is 31 and I am 34. We are not huge gamblers or partyers, but we want to be where the action is and are definitely interested in SuperBowl festivities.

Enough back story. Right now, we have a car booked (my brother wants to see some of the Western landscape since he's never been out West) and we have a room reserved at the MGM Signature. I had originally thought of booking the Mirage, PH, MGM or something central and on the strip. but the room rates are actually a good bit lower at the Signature than those other properties and the rooms appear to be a big step up. I am getting a better offer on MGM properties due to M-Life Gold tier status. I am wondering/hopeful that some offers come as we get closer to travel time, but think that they just might get more and more expensive because it is SuperBowl Weekend.

There are rooms that are cheaper/closer to what we wanted to spend at places like Excalibur, Monte Carlo, Luxor. But seem like a big step down for the $100 I might save over the signature. I can get a basic room at T.I. for about the same as what I have at the Signature. We can save a significant amount if we go off strip maybe $250 savings for the 4 nights total, but I am worried that really would take away from the experience. I wonder if staying at the Signature will be a mistake too as it looks to be significantly off the strip. Although I did stay at the Elara once behind PH and absolutely loved it. It didn't feel far from the strip at all to me.

Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on what to do on a guys weekend that doesn't involve a strip club, prostitutes or happy ending massages? (lol, we are both happily married and would prefer to keep it that way) Thinking of some things like trying a shooting range, definitely making plans to watch the super bowl (can you still watch a sports book? or will we have to pay an entrance fee to a party of some kind?). I was thinking of maybe taking in a comedy show or something on Friday or Saturday night. I also thought of maybe one of the racier shows that show a little skin might be fun... but I can't help but feel like these shows are aimed more at couples than guys there without their wives...Am I wrong??

Sorry this post is so long-winded. We just booked plane tickets and laid down a deposit on the room and I am really looking forward to going. Just still brainstorming a lot.... advice from frequent visitors or locals is greatly appreciated!

If your brother has never been, I think anywhere on the strip will do. It is a lot to take in the first time

Keep an eye out as there always seems to be a headliner around Saturday or Friday prior....I recall George strait at mgm arena a few years back as well as ufc fights if that is your thing. Good luck and have some good brother time.

For the game, keep in mind that its virtually impossible to get a seat in a sportsbook (unless you want to camp out at six in the morning and sit there all day). You may want to look into buying tickets for one of the many parties taking place up and down the Strip

Does anyone have any info or recommendations for superbowl parties? I heard about Blondies... but at $200 per person it seems really pricey. It is also almost sold out already.

The headliner in town ahead of the superbowl sounds interesting. I will keep an eye out for who that may be.

Thanks so far for the replies.... keep them coming! :)

We did Twin Peaks 2 years ago for SB and it was great. Packed, but so was every other place. It was $100 per person, so you basically had $200 to spend before / during the game. The whole menu was offered. Near the end we were ordering shots to cover the bill. Regardless of where you go, reserve early. Anywhere on strip is going to be a min of $100, closer to $150 and $200. But if you don't, don't be like me the year prior and 'wing it'. I couldn't get in anywhere and it wasn't fun.

I will only give advice about the hotel. With it being your brother's first Vegas trip, and if gambling is part of the picture, I'd advise staying at a casino hotel like MGM Grand or Luxor or even Excal instead of Signature.

While there's something to be said for being able to get away from the buzz by staying at Signature, for a first trip, it's a little sedate. You want the action to be available 60 secs away at all times, that's why you're going. Other than actually going to the game when your team is in it, Vegas on Superbowl weekend is the holy grail.

The only other thing I'd say is if the Steelers are in it, dial it back a little Saturday night so you're not miserable when the game is on.

Thanks much for the continued replies.... does anyone know where I find out about potential superbowl parties? I found Blondie's and the ability to book online, but I really would rather hold out for something that won't cost us $400 for the game. Has anyone put together a list from past years?

ThoughI would lean towards being on-strip - something like Signature is not too bad. Nothing further away.

Of course you want to get downtown at some point.

Since you mentioned you are getting discount rates due to being Gold, and not comped rooms, I would guess your play is too low to get any invites. If you have done any play at all (even a few dollars), log into Total Rewards to see what the rates are there - NOT just offers.

I think there is a facebook group that tracks these parties. None of them are cheap

My play is not high at all. I only have Gold due to a tier match from celebrity cruise lines where my wife and i have a higher tiered status from taking several cruises. I also have a total rewards membership with little play and am not getting any offers there. I wonder if it's too early? or if they will post some deals on cyber Monday ?

If you come across anything let me know. if my team is in it. I won't regret spending some significant dough on a party. I just can't justify $200pp when I don't even know who is playing yet . lol I guess I'm not much of a gambler... which is why my hotel offers are not so great.

OP I have a group of about 20 that go for SB every year and we all go to the South Point to watch it. They put on a HUGE free watching party in their event center, the room is bigger than a football field and they have great HD screens and audio. If you decide that will work for you and you brother PM me, we can save you a couple seats at one of our tables

That sounds awesome! thanks a bunch I'll let you know as we get closer what we decide, but this sounds like a plan. How early do you typically have to arrive to get a seat?

Wasn't sure if off strip was an option but yeah....it's free. Gold Coast/Orleans -- not sure about the palms since it went stations but giant screens in ginormous room with lots of screaming and WTF just happened's....And you get to save all that cover charge bs for gambling on the game. So yeah, go for free and enjoy. And have a bucket of beer for 15$ or so.

The game starts around 3:20 Pacific Time, I get there early with some of my group and we stake out a couple tables as soon as doors open, usually 10:30 A.M. or so.

But we can save a couple seats if we know you are coming, that wouldn't be a problem.

Have you ever been to Valley of Fire? I have been there 4 times and would keep going back. $10 admission fee and the place is truly breathtaking.

I have never been to Valley of fire. But have heard it is incredible. I am thinking we may give this a go. On a side note.... I have been going on hotwire daily scouring for deals..... Today I came across one that was too hard to pass up. It ended up being the SLS hotel and Casino Which is not ideal... but the deal was unbeatable. Guaranteed room type with 2 beds instead of 1 king (My brother and I are close lol but not that close). $42 per night for superbowl weekend. I couldn't find another deal that really comes close for that price. I am hoping that I didn't make a big mistake as it is not changeable now.... but I cancelled the signature and we have the room at the SLS now. Saving us about $350 total.
