My wife and I will be coming to Las Vegas for the November 13th half and full marathon. Our first 3 days are comped at the Venetian. Given that we have never won there even though it's our home base I wanted to try a change.

I booked a rush room at the Golden Nugget for 2 nights at $99/night, our first downtown stay ever.

We aren't foodies, Grande Lux is our typical fare. I don't really want to eat bad meals though. Can folks recommend Indian, Thai, pizza and Mexican fare in waking distance? Other options are welcome too!

    Thanks for the help!

Le Thai is excellent. Located on the same side of Fremont as the Golden Nugget a few blocks down (across from El Cortez).
Pizza Rock is excellent. Located 1 block north of Fremont by Downtown Grand.
Many 'old world' style steak houses...too many to try them all and everyone has their own favorite.

Indian - Turmeric Flavors of India: http://turmericflavorsofindia.com/
    Thai - Le Thai: http://lethaivegas.com/
    Pizza - Pizza Rock: http://www.pizzarocklasvegas.com/
    Mexican - La Comida: http://lacomidalv.com/

With the exception of Pizza Rock (located at 3rd St and Ogden Ave), these restaurants are in the Fremont East district of downtown Vegas, about a five or six block walk from Golden Nugget.

Inside Golden Nugget there is Cadillac Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar: http://www.cadillacbar.com/
    I haven't tried it so I don't know if it's any good.

The word is out about Le Thai. We popped in there a couple weeks ago about 9pm and were turned away as they were packed and couldn't accommodate us. We wound up at Pizza Rock.

I like the street tacos(lengua extra spicy) at International Eateries across from the Walgreens/CVS at end of Fremont

Chicago Brewing Co upstairs in 4 Queens has great Chicago style pizza

Glad you're giving downtown a shot, a lot of us love it

I think Downtown is the best party going on in LV. Grab a drink at the casino and go out and listen to one of the bands playing your type of music. Rest up at a BJ table (with another drink) and head back to the outside stage. Just great. More middle-class, less pretentious and always fun.

Vic and Anthony's at GN, Hugo's Cellar at 4 Queens, Steakhouse at Binions are high end, Triple George is middle of the road and good HH, good HH at the Charthouse and the Grotto at GN , love Bin 702 in the Container Park for cheese plates and wine. Park on Fremont is good for munchies too. Heard Oscars in the Plaza is good but have yet to try it.

Consider the 2nd St. Grill inside the Fremont Hotel and Casino. Cozy, quiet atmosphere with friendly and un-pretentious wait staff. The food is great!

Some of the things I've tried is warm spinach salad, stuffed pork chops, med. rare ahi steak, and deep fried snapper on a bed of rice and veggies (my avatar is a pic of this dish). All of these dishes are really good. They also make great steaks.

It's located next to the VP bar along the table games aisle, just before Tony Roma's. Only a door will reveal the fact that there is a restaurant there. Blink your eye and you will miss it!

I'm looking forward to the change. I'm not that fond of my Venetian host. He hasn't done anything wrong but I sometimes feel like I'm gambling for comps these days. Downtown debauchery here we come!
