    My Trip Report

    https://sites.google.com/site/lvgrid/journal-blog/j2-off-strip-search-green-valley-ranch-sept-16

    Link to the report above.

Limo from the strip to Green Valley. Very impressed! I have been going to Vegas for almost 20 years and I have never stayed off strip before. I might have to rethink my future stays!

I love Las Vegas. I love the Strip. I enjoy revisiting all of my favorite places and looking to see what's new. But I hate that I often blow through my money now.

While I don't think I can ever make the 4 hour flight to Vegas and just stay off strip. I will most certainly cycle off strip gaming into my mix now.

3 days 2 nights and my bankroll went pretty far. Great bang for the buck!

Nice report, GVR looks nice, more like a destination than a Vegas casino.

Great TR looks like GVR was empty a lot of the time, not sure I would like that as it reminds me to much of The Shining.

GVR is great. Never stayed there but have dined played there a lot over the years. This past trip (got home yesterday) was the first time we didn't make a trip over there (went over to Red Rocks instead).

We have stayed at GVR dozens of times, including during the time of the reality TV show several years ago. We like it, but we actually prefer Red Rock.

Both places are great. Both have full pay video poker. Both have Black & White cookies in their bakery/cafe. GVR has a fabulous rose garden in the pool area, so best to visit in the spring.

We try to make President status every 6 months (VERY difficult for out of towners to do) so we get a shorter buffet line and other perks.

Thanks for the report. My biggest problem when staying @GVR was finding the casino. Most hotels drop you off in the casino. GVR had to go to end of hall go down to 2nd floor go throughr doors and down another floor? Something like that.

    And that's how it felt!

Pretty much spot on. The place was booming each day around 4PM - 9PM. You couldnt get near the buffet! But before that it was me and some old folks gambling and walking around. And after that it was me alone.

They have a ton of convention space, but i dont think anything was booked while we were there.

How is Red Rock? The limo driver that took us to the airport, Howard, said "If you like this place you should check out the big one called Red Rock!"

Sounds like you know what you are doing! The first day there my host was off. So we stumbled our way around figuring things out. Do you know if Red Rock is kid friendly? It looks a little more trendy than GVR.

I think it was a bit weird having the casino on the second floor. And that might through you a bit. I feel your pain! All roads do eventually lead to the casino. But I thought it was weird to get out of my room, down a hall to an elevator, get off on another floor with rooms, follow that hallway down to another door and then head out to the casino.

I think its a piss poor design to not have a single elevator that will drop you off at the casino from any of the rooms.

You and I have the same idea when it comes to slots, play the old ones and rack up the points. I play the 5 line $'s a lot, they spit out a lot of pushes, and I still get the points. I hear you loud and clear on Mlife's bullshit $10 a point slots, it's not like they aren't going to be any looser either.

Really enjoyed your report, both of them. I've never been to GVR, but did spend a few hours at Red Rock a year ago, and they still flood me with offers. One of these days....

    >> Do you know if Red Rock is kid friendly?

I would say that GVR is more kid friendly. We love the big grassy area that you found, this is where we go for the 4th of July fireworks. The only time I see kids at RR is outside at the pool area, which is usually jamm- packed.

We are retired, and don't really want to see any kids walking through the casino. However, in order to get to the food court, you have to. Just stay on the major walkways around the edge of the casino, and you will be fine. This is probably true anywhere in Las Vegas. Lots of locals families will be doing the same thing.

There are some "Kids Quest" kids day-activity-care centers at Station Casinos. You could check that out.

Another great TR Grid. Just had kid #2 too. I feel your pain in not being able to get to Vegas as much as you used to! I recommend folks check out Grid's other trip reports, he's quite detailed and honest.

Better than most! It was pretty big with plenty of seating and a nice bar right there.

Plus the older slots have a decent payback unlike modern pennies. So you actually have a fighting chance to win something while point whoring. I'm curious to see what sort of offers I get from GVR. Word is they dont seduce out of towners very well.

Thanks bcc. Luxor is the only joint that comes to mind where you dont have to go through the casino to get to the food court. They keep theirs on the 2nd floor. We looked into Kid's Quest to get some alone time for an hour. And not just to hump or gamble but maybe just an hour to sleep! LOL. But I think the youngest they take in is like 2 and that means we will be stuck with the baby.

Thanks for the shout out CD!

I believe the kids quest in red rock will take infants, something to keep in mind on your next trip but sometimes they want immunization records so make sure to bring those

GVR is more kid friendly than RR. RR is more adult orientated and although there are a lot of shops up in the Summerlin area (RR), they aren't connected to the casino the way the District is connected to GVR.
I always have a car rental when I'm in LV so getting around isn't a problem, but if I didn't have a car I don't know if I would stay at RR as much as I do. Kids annoy me while I'm on vacation. Sorry, but they do. I love RR. I avoid staying at GVR.

Great report! You show how Vegas with kids should be done! But I'm glad you didn't get Aces dealt on Deuces Wild! (Think that was a typo...haha) And nice bonus on "wild goose chase"! That bonus can pay pretty well if you can get it! I love a lot of those older games!

And if you thought breakfast was a steal at GVR at $7.99, lunch is also outstanding and is only $9.99 Mon.-Sat.! And Red Rock's buffet is on par with GVR's! Both casinos are similarly nice and similar in size. The gaming area at Red Rock is technically smaller according to Wiki...but I don't notice much difference. And I am capable to get lost in either of them. I can't comment on which hotel is better as we never stayed there though.

I think hotel wise they are both very nice although they don't comp very well unless you are a big spender. I like both casinos although I would give the edge to red rock. I disagree with smerrian though about red rock not being as kid friendly we go there almost every trip and my kids love it, also the shopping district is very close just walk through a parking lot and your there so I really don't see a difference in either place being kid friendly

    Great report, Grid!
Awesome insight into this off-strip option. Considering it for at least part of our next "family trip."

    Thank you!
