Booked a trip today for April. That means 5 trips in queue . Oct, Nov, Dec, Feb & April.

Then shock of shocks, my wife said last week that maybe in 2018 we should consider becoming snowbirds for 3 months of the Wisconsin winters. She is on 2 golf leagues and golfs with so many people who either have 2nd homes in AZ or NV or rentals.

Never say never, but I said I wouldn't live in Vegas again, but hell, I already know all the streets, restaurants and VP Bars, why not Vegas again, part time?

That would be my dream- to live in Vegas maybe 3 months out of the year. I would never get tired of it. Just would need a huge bankroll. Good luck on your trips!

Good for you Joe, that's awesome!!! That's what retirement is for - to enjoy the things in life that you enjoy.

For me, I'm already planning a month long visit in June/July 2018 for the World Cup soccer tourney. I think I'll have to break the trip up into a couple of different hotels as they typically don't let you stay more than 14 days, something to do with the property being viewed as an innkeeper vs. a landlord. Maybe I can just switch rooms, but I'll probably do three hotels @ 10 days each.

Get a 3 bedroom and rent a room / provide transportation for
The board. It could fill the "lonely" times. 19$ a night seems about right and after the parking fees, resort fees, landlord fees, etc you could give up gambling for the sure thing.
Just try to avoid Craig's list

Thank god someone else posted this - got 5 in the hopper as well...Oct & Nov (Nov have 2 wends back to back), Feb for Super Bowl and March for the Madness!

Thank goodness I got the Vegas "itch" later in life - if it has happened earlier I would be hungry and homeless!

All trips centred around football w/ the exception of March.

    See you there!

Joe, consider searching airbnb for 3 month rentals. You get a decent discount renting for months on most places. The only problem is renting a car might get expensive.

You are my idol. I always try to have to have two trips booked, but five could be only aspirational for me.

I left the snow belt when I joined the military long ago and never returned except for family gatherings-I'd have already moved. You can't shovel heat......

I'll be there in Oct, Nov, Dec, Mar, Apr and May, but it's just two trips for us. Airfare is the biggest single expense for us so we go for as long as we can.

I'm curious if you're thinking about buying again in Vegas. You didn't seem to love it last time. :)

I think snowbirding is a great idea. I know a lot of Seattle Rain-birds who head south Dec - April. I'm always tempted in the darkness of February. But I don't think I could buy somewhere else. I'd rather keep my options open and do some vacation rentals, or in the case of Vegas, maximize those winter comps.

Some local governments do not allow lodging over a certain number of consecutive days. Has to do with legal distinction of being an innkeeper versus landlord along with the taxes and other legal implications of being one over the other.

You know, I don't know. My wife kind of shocked me when she brought up the snow-bird idea. As far as I'm concerned we have to wait for the 12 year old doggie to move on. A lot of life revolved around the canine. Yes we kennel her for our Vegas trips, but I would like to do longer day trips and not worry about what the dog will get into, or even if some complex will take a 50# dog.

None of this has been thought through. Just concepts at the moment. For sure we would change how we lived life in Vegas if we went back, if only for 3-4 months per year. You can't live there like you are on vacation.

WOW – 5 trips booked at once! I'll probably make that many trips this year, but I'll never have 5 booked at any given time. You're the man!

I hope you will continue to let us know as you move through the process. I think it's always interesting to hear about. Especially because I'm not sure I could live in Vegas. It's a vacation place for me. I have some other vacation destinations I could see myself moving to, even part time, but Vegas is not one of them.

I understand the doggie thing too. It seems like a lot of our recreation decisions are based on whether there is someone who will watch the dog or whether or not she can come along and she's only 10 lbs. I think this is the first time that Ruby isn't coming with me to Vegas. I know she loves her time at Doggie District (thank you again for that!) but I'm sort of looking forward to not having to have her with me at my parents' and during my time on the road. Those 6am potty breaks are a lot easier when Dan gets up to do them. :wink2:
