For our annual guys trip we have been staying at the Golden Nugget the last 2-3 years (prefer gambling Downtown) but going to go back to The Strip this year. I thought last time I was in town the Monte Carlo was completely shut down for renovations, but now I see they are going to be shut down (again?) for a rebranding later this year and re-opening in 2018.

We always go NFL Championship weekend in January and prices are great right now, but don't want to book if it a) crappy or b) going to shut down.

I would strongly suggest not staying at Monte Carlo this winter. A lot is going to be shut down, restaurants are going to be closed. The Pub will be gone, so that gets rid of one large venue for football watching.

Good advice for the types that likes to hunker down in one casino. On the other hand MC is a great location, if MC has cheap rooms you can use that as a base and hop around to the other nearby casinos. As long as they keep the front door open and the elevators running I would have no problem crashing at MC and playing at NYNY or Aria.

Does anyone know if the walkway to the tram will still be open? I do hope so.

Yes it will. When they first announced this construction some people freaked out and called Monte Carlo and they confirmed there will still be access to the tram.
