On Thursday morning I ordered a new computer for my wife from Dell. The old one is six years old, slow and getting finicky. The new computer includes a "free" 32" TV. Did some research and it is cheaper than buying the same model on-line. But, I realize the cost is built in somewhere.

Also on Thursday morning I ordered a wall mount for the TV from Amazon Prime.

Friday morning I get home at noon and both are sitting on my front porch. The TV came via Fedex and the mount, via Prime, came from UPS. 28 hours after ordering. The computer has to be built, so that's not coming until first week of Sept.

Yeah, it's amazingly-fast. My bride will order something and it'll show up the next day. The UPS man doesn't have far to deliver on his route, but the FedEx guy is usually in a crappy mood because he has to come all the way from the Twin Cities.

I recall ordering a small electronic gadget from some place in china, In this country it would have been around $40 but they were charging like $1 98 with free shipping, somehow it arrived in 2 days, I couldn't believe it.

A few years ago I ordered a pair of boots from Liverpool, England. I placed the order at about 6:00 AM on a Tuesday. Item was delivered to me shortly before noon the very next day! I could not believe these actually came from England but they did. I used the tracking number that showed Liverpool to London to New York City to Cincinnati. Delivered by DHL.

I work in a warehouse doing shipping and receiving.. It is pretty cool to see how efficient and cost effective we have become. Delivery times are only going to get faster too.. Rumor has it Amazon is going to partner with the USPS for a delivery system.. It could be a game changer for both companies.

Yeah Joe, I've got Amazon Prime and it is so worth it. I order a lot of books and get some real good deals on Nike running shoes and I really like getting everything I order within a couple of days. I don't use their video streaming much but its there if I want it. Had Amazon Prime for about six years now and I don't mind ponying up for it each year one bit.

We watch Transparent on Amazon streaming. That's about all we watch on it.

I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon. The occasional time I shop in a brick and mortar store just reinforced how much I prefer to shop online, get exactly what I want and have it show up at my door step in a few days.

I've placed orders that have arrived the same day. That's because we are lucky to have an Amazon Distribution Center 1 hour away.
Other times they've acted like a Fulfillment Service where the item is picked up locally in our area and is dropped off by a courier.

I love me my Amazon Prime. I don't do the movie streaming much, as I have Netflix too, but I do take advantage of the Prime Music Library.

+1 for Prime. We order so much from Amazon I feel bad for the UPS driver; every year I want to leave a gift card or something for Christmas for him (which would be ordered via Amazon as well, haha) but I don't know if that's weird or something, haha.

We're in the process of remodeling our bathroom. I happened to be outside for a smoke break after a session of demoing subway tile over wire mesh over plaster and lath and dude rolls up with 8 packages from the shower niche to the towel warmer; shower fixture to random tools and odds and ends. I kinda think it's weird that they stop twice sometimes; you'd think they'd put everything on the same truck, but IMO UPS drivers are some of the hardest working guys I've met.

You'd wonder why Amazon doesn't just attempt to buy UPS or FedEx.

Amazon bought a package delivery service in France and in my neighborhood, I often see a van with an Amazon logo making deliveries. The Amazon truck is probably operated by a contractor to make the "last mile" delivery. My young twenty something neighbors across the street probably receive 4 deliveries a week and on trash day, their corrugated waste for recycling is usually more than their garbage. My local mall just converted a ton of space into medical offices. Retail space goes begging and industrial space for warehousing and order fulfillment is hot.

A couple of years ago I bought a flat screen TV from New Egg, they have a distribution center in central NJ and I live in the UPS one day service area. Ordered it around 4:00 pm and it arrived the next morning.

I've been waiting over a month for parts from Asia for my Lane electric recliner. Thank god I took the the extended warantee. The half leather stuff on the seat and both arms is ripping after 3 years. I recieved the cover for the seat and footrest but the arms are still coming(supposedly ) from some jungle over there. 4-6 weeks. This is a $500 piece of crap,I'd never buy anything from Lane again. We dont have any pets or little kids to rip it either. My cigars come from PA in about 3 days .UPS picks them up and the PO delivers them.

My home deliveries have been fast, as well.
    HOWEVER ----
ANYTHING ( as far as furniture ) delivered at my job
    has been a DISASTER !
You must open + check it....before signing off.
9 outta 10 items we've sent back because of damage !
The delivery guys really "hustle" you to sign --
because THEY KNOW it's damaged.......and don't wanna haul it back.
    The damage is incredible, too.
