Club noise -- will a noise cancelling machine work?

Everyone knows that the clubs are here to stay, Oontz Oontz Oontz all night long. I can stay up pretty late but my wife and I are getting older and eventually we like to turn in so we can get our morning walk in.

We love Strip views and aren't willing to give that up. But at Paris, that means you hear Chateau until like 3 or 4am.

Has anyone ever tried a noise cancelling machine? And I don't mean like a white noise machine, if I wanted to try that I'd just bring a box fan. I'm more interested in an actual active noise canceller like the airplane headphones.

Wasn't this technology pioneered by Bose? I've looked briefly online and it seems that most "noise cancelling machines" are simply white noise generators.

With enough booze I can sleep through anything but that bass hits hard sometimes. Solutions? Ideas?

The difference for me is noise can be blocked but I feel the thumping of the bass in my chest.

It isn't the sound that bothers me as much as the vibration. Haven't found anything other than a room free of club noise that fixes it.

 

I pack a white noise generator every trip. Works great..........until you stay at Paris with a room facing West up high, and Cosmo is having some ultra loud Hip-Hop music contest out at the pool all night. The bass alone nearly rocked me outta bed. Can't believe they allow this to continue.

Just sleep far away from any casino with a dance club, Carnaval Court, or anywhere within a mile of Cosmo and you'll be fine. Especially on the weekends.

 

white noise or noise-canceling machines or whatever are great at canceling out high-end noise, but are pretty useless against any noises coming from the clubs, which end up being low-end kind of nose (bass)

 

So I guess I'm a little ignorant on the noise-cancelling headphones. I thought I could just put them on and turn them "on" and they would actively noise-cancel. But it seems they are all designed to play music or white noise while cancelling?

I have these and they work well but you'll have to play some type of music or sound. I downloaded some white noise to my iPhone and it works great. However, in LV, as others have stated, if there is a band playing and the bass is booming you'll still hear and maybe even feel it in your room even with the noise cancelling ear buds on. A couple of weeks ago I was at MC for a couple of days after the SWA snafu and there were pool parties going on during the day. The ear buds helped a lot but I could still feel the bass. No, they won't cancel out the noise, but does definitely make it more tolerable so that one may actually fall asleep.

 

Noise cancellation works better for droning non-intermittent sounds - like fans, airplane engines, politicians. Boom boom boom not as much.

 

I carry one of these everywhere I go. It works great and is common enough not to hold you up at the TSA line.

Would seem to me that a small box fan would accomplish the same thing as that. My wife insists on one at home.

 

Holy Cow! Just use ear plugs!!!!!

I'll tell you something indispensable. A Chip clip or two to eliminate that little sliver of light coming through the curtains.

And a door wedge.

 

Have you considered trying ear plugs? Just purchase the highest level of decibel blocking ear plugs you can find and that should help. I bring them everywhere I travel. They have been a lifesaver when I have had a room at Aria or Vdara facing Marquee. I do have to say that on my recent July trip I had a Vdara room facing Marquee and I was surprised that for once I could not hear the music thumping all night long (and this was during the busy July 4th holiday weekend). They must have finally done something to mitigate the noise from that club, which always annoyed me.

 

I must be a heavy sleeper, I have never had noise issues at Aria. I can't imagine trying to sleep with headphones on. Good luck, I hope you find a suitable solution.
