Xmas season on strip

Was not sure what section to post this. So if it's in wrong section I'm sorry.

What is it like in December in Vegas strip. Is all decorated or just inside some on nothing

We were there last December a few days before Christmas and would not say it was decorated, but it sure was cold.

 

Definitely check out the Bellagio Conservatory. The Christmas display is amazing.

The Fashion Mall used to have Santa come out once an hour surrounded by showgirls. I am not sure if they still do this, and if they do, the days and hours.

We have been to Vegas in December a few times. Weather is hit and miss. We have worn shorts and short sleeve shirts and we have worn stocking caps, gloves, and winter coats. The latter was the wear this past December. Most casinos will have a tree up somewhere and some are very well done.

Some shows shut down for a couple of weeks before Christmas and don't start up again until right before New Years. We have J Lo tickets in December and are hoping this year will be a bit warmer than last year.

 

Both of my trips have been around the second week of December and it's not as decorated as I would have thought.

The Aria and Crystals have Christmas displays like the Chocolate Grinch and the large tree in Crystals.
The Bellagio Christmas display is about the biggest. Be prepared to fight the mobs to get photos but everyone is pretty civil.
Fremont St has a big Christmas tree on display.
There are scattered displays throughout the Miracle Miles Shop.
The Venetian had trees and decorations on display where you overlook the waterfall and coin ponds.
We skated on the Cosmo pool with 80's tunes and fake snow blowing.

It was mostly shorts and long shirts at day and pants and a jacket at night. Last year it was really cold when we left. My wife bought a toque up near Harrahs because we were freezing walking around. We did golf one one day and it was gorgeous out.

 

Went last year around 15th of December specifically to see decorations and I was a little underwhelmed. Being Vegas, i thought it would be over the top. Stayed at Palazzo and was expecting big displays and they were ok just not as good as I thought they would be. Bellagio conservatory was the best. Weather was 40s during day, so a little chilly walking the strip. Being a few weeks before Christmas it wasn't as crowded as when we've gone in summer but bartenders told us it gets really busy over Christmas. Enjoy your trip!

 

One of the reasons I've gone to Vegas the last 4 Xmas's is for the most part the strip DOESN'T go overboard on decorations/hoopla. As others have posted, it's there if you seek it out, but I think a lot of the strip properties are cognizant of visitors from other cultures that maybe don't celebrate traditional US holidays, so it's not in your face really.

After the normal 2+ months of hit-over-your-head Xmas fever that grips the rest of the US, I love coming to Vegas to not have to be assaulted by that. I also love the fact that Xmas week is one of the slowest of the year in town, so there's less fighting the crowds on the strip, you can usually get seats in bars/restos no problem, and a lot of resorts are more apt to upgrade your rooms if asked for reasonable prices, since they are usually not nearly at capacity that week.

The key is getting OUT of town by about the 28th, or you get the onslaught of the NYE bro crowd piling in to town.

Seems like I remember Wynn/Encore having a nice theme throughout the properties for Christmas. Caesar's decorates the fountain in the main entry and other statue areas throughout.

 

I visited Vegas many times just before Christmas. As far as I can remember, the difference between Christmas vs other time is not big, if any at all.
Those beautiful (Christmas-like) places such as Bellagio garden, Wynn's lobby, V/P's lobby, are decorated year around.
In other words, I never felt it's Christmas season in Vegas.

If you are around the 1st Saturday in December, they have the Great Santa Run now around downtown. 8,000 plus runners in Santa suits.
I remember seeing it 8 or so years ago after coming out of Bill's/Barberry Coast early on morning after a hangover breakfast I guess stunned silence would describe my initial reaction. Thought I was seeing seasonal Pink Elephants.

 

It's celebrated around the world, not just the U.S.

Fair enough, I retract the "US holiday" portion of the post, but I stand by my point.

 

The big December holiday in Vegas is December 31st...New Year's Eve. The week leading up to Christmas is slow and only the real high end resorts have a lot of decor up (Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn). After Christmas the crowds slowly start to build until NYE when you can't move on the Strip. Holidays centered around hearth and family are not popular in a casino.
