Can you give specifics on this? Just look at the following:

    Encore Spa
    Encore European Pool
    Encore Beach Club
    XS

Many people would argue that those 4 things are the very best (or at least top 3) in their respective categories in Vegas.

Not to mention, Encore has gorgeous rooms, a great selection of craps tables, great service, and attached to Wynn.

What exactly is Cosmo doing that Encore is failing at?

I've used the spa, the European pool and been to Surrender. I found all three to be top notch with nothing to complain.

    - Encore Spa : Professional, luxurious and a great atmosphere
    - Encore European Pool : No Kids, woman can go topless if they like, more like a private setting and a nice bar
    - Surrender : Good sound quality, was packed when I was there and had a good lineup of DJs.

its been a couple of years since i stayed at encore but i tell this to anyone who asks "where to stay", i've never been treated better from the moment i walked in the door than i was at encore. my experience is their customer service is second to none. not crazy about the location but loved my room.

that being said, i'm not a huge fan of the casino, i generally stop in for a few hours each trip but thats just because i like the property, certainly not because of the great gaming.

We love Wynn, but we're n older couple and we'd not stay at Encore even if comped. The clubbing youth movement has overrun the place-drunk kids everywhere. We do go over there for Sinatra and Wazuzu, two of our favorite restaurants in Las Vegas, then we hustle to our beloved Wynn Tower Suites. We agree with those who love the way Encore used to be-sadly the club youth movement is ruining the environment for us. If you are over forty, forget Encore. Still, anyone who claims Wynn or Encore are the worst in the city is clearly deranged, with an axe to grind.

My wife and I enjoyed a two night stay last week (Mon and Tues) at Encore. We were on the 28th floor of the Tower Suites facing the Strip and could definitely hear the buzz from the music at the EBC during the day on Monday the 4th (I turned on the music on the room TV to drown it out), and thankfully there were no parties at Surrender on Monday or Tuesday nights. We enjoyed our meals, especially lunch at the Country Club restaurant and at SW Steakhouse. Sinatra was OK but I probably don't feel the need to go back.

However, after eating at SW on Monday, we went up the escalator to the main level and noticed some guy who might've experienced the EBC earlier in the day and appeared completely wasted. He went back down the escalator toward SW and sat down on the escalator as he went down, and we followed him. He went into Lakeside and we alerted a security person who was at the door leading onto the patio between SW and Lakeside. We went back up to the main level, and a minute later noticed the dude wandering around again. He went toward the area where Intrigue is, and removed a rope in front of a set of stairs, and proceeded to lumber down the stairs.....in the state he appeared to be in, seems he was lucky he didn't fall down the stairs and break something. He then found an elevator on that level which he was trying to get into. There was a concierge nearby who we alerted, and I assume they eventually got security.

I would agree. We've always loved Wynncore but ever since Steve put in EBC/Surrender, Encore has been a pretty bi-polar property. IMO, it's just too drastic of a crowd change to try and have 5 star service, luxury surroundings, great restaurants and music, impeccably clean gaming areas all mixed in with staggering, slurring, screaming and swearing incoherent drunks spilling drinks, dropping cigarettes and puking. As Mike pointed out, you used to feel like it was a place to dress up and now you see people in dripping wet swim suits exhibiting all of the behavior noted above.

I'm sure the young kids don't enjoy hanging out with the older folks and I know the 40+ (probably even 30+) folks definitely don't like hanging out with the kids.

Mike, I'd almost forgotten about the curtains and the nice lamps on the gaming tables....those were both a great touch of class. Steve should quit trying to be everything to everybody but I don't think that's going to happen. As you said, the whole place has lost its soul a bit. Encore Mgmt needs to pick an audience instead of trying to be Nordstrom's and Wall Mart all in one...:poke:

I agree with Dean, and I'm old enough to still have all his music. Don't you all think it's just a matter of $$$$? Higher end clubs make huge amounts of money, earning more than all of hotel operations and even out earning the casinos on some weekends. Finding a place to cram in another club is just loading up another cash machine. As a shareholder, I guess I like it, but as an older guest I regard the club crowd, particularly the Encore Beach Club crowd, in the same category as I regard roaches and ants. I'm sure they think the same thing about us, but I promise you we've never disrupted anyone else's visit, puked in the hallway, passed out in the valet parking area, been asked by security to cover up our bare asses hanging out in the casino, tried to illegally stack ten people in a room overnight, staggered drunkenly past Wazuzu still dripping and barefoot or sat in a club at 1:00 AM listening to thumping music loud enough to awaken strip side guests on the 55th floor of the Wynn Tower Suites.

Apologies for my rant-The Wynn side is not perfect, nor is it free of club influence and noise, but we think it's still by far the best option for adults in the over forty, or fifty crowd. We love it, but we assiduously avoid the drunk kids as much as possible. We just don't think you can do that anymore on the Encore side, especially between May and October.

Still, not to depart completely from the thread, Encore is a premium property, and Wynn/Encore together are the best overall casino resorts in Las Vegas. I've not read the Vegas Tripping garbage, but something is clearly wrong if they say Encore is the worst in the city-has to be some sort of misrepresentation and/or axe grinding. Any savvy consumer looking at any other information source, like VMB or Trip Advisor, will get a more correct, balanced view and will see that Encore is a great place, maybe not for me, but many prefer the Encore side to Wynn. I will say that Wazuzu and Sinatra are so good we freely risk the shocking drunk kid assault to go there. I have also gambled some on the Encore side during quieter winter times and I've been to the spectacular, completely over-the-top Encore spa-all excellent.

Lots to like about Wynn/Encore, and some things not to like, but not even my worst cranky old man rant could ever put Encore in an inferior resort category, with "problems." Nope, no way.

You might notice that our countdown indicates we're now passing up our annual summer trip between May and October. There's a reason for that. Ha. So, if the summer club crowd is enough to discourage a yearly, fairly high dollar expenditure, it's having some effect. Still, we realize that resort management would gladly give up all of us older, luxury travelers to maintain the clubbers. I agree with Dean that they're trying to be all things to a wildly disparate group of visitors, and not always well. Still, we spend more than enough annually in Las Vegas to have paid for my first house, most of it at Wynn, so they're still amazing us with great hospitality and service.

The reality is that no one is going to listen to older guests complaining about club noise and crowds-but Wynn and Encore are doing as well as anyone at splitting the difference. Jeez, I remind myself of my parents complaining about rock and roll-gotta get a grip........

Sort of related to this topic, but saw in the LV Sun that "Showstoppers" is set to close on 30 September. Wonder what (if anything) they are going to replace it with?

And....to be fair and not such a whiner, I find the nightclub patrons (XS and Surrender) much easier to deal with than the EBC kids. There's always the exceptions but that crowd is usually a little older, nicer and more respectful people in general. Plus those venues are going on late at night and into the early morning and we usually hit the rack about 11 so we miss most of it. There's always a few staggering and obnoxious laggards when I go down for coffee and VP about 0630 but that seems to clear out within an hour, once the sun comes up and starts shining through that east window behind the bar. There's just nothing positive to say about the EBC crowd other than the Encore security folks (at least they used to) seem to try and route them to the front door and taxi line as they exit EBC to get them back to Circus Circus or wherever where they're staying....:poke:.

I actually feel a little bad for some of the clubbers I see in the morning that are still up and obviously feeling like major shit because by then the sweet spot of drinking and definitely the sweet spot of any pharmaceuticals they may be using have long worn off. Because the way I see it...they just pissed away a beautiful day in Las Vegas.:drunk:

But...we all have to go through that part of life to get to the next part.....which is how I know first hand how shitty they feel that next morning:drunk:

What Dean said. I agree completely that it's the EBC crowd which causes me to recoil in horror the most. Still, the clubs generally produce a lot of noise which bothers us about as often as the clubs are open, and apparently a lot of others if you read Trip Advisor. There are always noise complaints and people saying don't stay here or there because of the noise. Well, the clubs are everywhere now and the clubs are part of Las Vegas tourist life. They're not going away. We don't fit with the club crowd and they probably don't like us all that much, but Wynn or Encore can probably make either crowd happy.

The point of my comments is not to bash Encore-it's to suggest to rookies that Wynn is probably a better choice, especially in the summer, if you are conservative older people from the Central time zone like us. Others disagree. Despite the mostly legitimate observations of Vegas Tripping (EBC pollution, 6:5 blackjack, double odds craps, closing good restaurants like Society, etc.), Encore is still a very good resort and cannot be put in any 'worst' category. Their criticism is valid, but I disagree with their conclusions. So, to answer the original question, "troubles at Encore?" The answer is no. Most Strip resorts can only aspire to be as good as Encore. It's a matter of taste and preference, not quality.

I joined VMB recently because I am very interested in the views of other Las Vegas fans. What I've always observed over the years is that locals (like the Vegas Tripping editors?) are always tough critics, and especially on more expensive Strip properties. I agree that if you pay more you should get more-we're happy to pay Wynn, but we prefer to avoid Encore except for the restaurants (and my true love's affinity for Hermés scarves).

Lastly, off topic admittedly, am I the only one who wonders where all this entitled youth who can afford all of these clubs, cabanas and bottle service come from? It's not one club, it's ALL of them, filled and printing money. When I was in my twenties there's no way I could have afforded to be hitting clubs like that. Although I had friends who could have, certainly not thousands of them enough to fill and enrich all these places at once. I get that demographics have changed, but there seem to be a lot more "rich kids" in their twenties than I thought. Who is paying for all these twenty-somethings to do so much clubbing? There are just so many of them.........

To your point about the youth and money.

I think a percent get their party money from mommy and daddy. However, I'm sure the bulk are just charging it and pay it off little by little to either they can fully pay it off or file bankruptcy.

A lot of people in my age range (25 to 35) live above their means. I know one who still lives at home, pays no bills there and blows all the money she makes clubbing

Great question, often I have wondered the same thing. The overwhelming majority of these "kids" are likely making between $25K-$50K a year, living with a roommate(s) or at home and spend everything they've got along with racking up a lot of credit card debt. I'm sure Vegas locals and/or people from Phoenix, L.A. etc have "connections" with promoters that get them into the club free of charge or at an extreme discount. Assuming you're making $37K/year that is roughly $2300 post tax each month if not slightly more, if they have little to no expenditures (cheap rent, living at home etc) one can afford 3-4 nights out per month dropping $250-$400 each night. Is it smart, of course not...but we all were young and stupid once. Of course there are many young people doing very well for themselves who can afford nights out at XS without issue. Also, and I'm in no way being sexist whatsoever with saying this, but the young ladies you see probably hardly ever pay for a drink and/or a cover charge as their tabs are typically picked up by guys eager to get their number!

I saw that as well! When I saw on the Wynn website that each room comes with one rear orchestra ticket to Showstoppers I had a feeling that something was awry. I saw the show last year and thought it was fantastic! However, I did notice large blocks of empty seats and the clientele trended much older than what you would find at the run of the mill Vegas show.

I'm making a large assumption here that millennials don't really care for show tunes and considering that some of Wynn/Encore's well heeled clientele (South Americans, Asians and Europeans that probably don't identify or care much about Broadway show tunes) that there simply weren't enough customers to support the show at the rate it needed to be successful. Who knows what they're going to do to replace it...I'm interested in seeing what the team at Wynn Resorts comes up with this time!

I am pretty sure that their number isn't what these guys are looking to get. I think dating practices are different today.

I've been going to Encore almost every year since it opened and I gotta agree with Mike. It's kind of weird, but there's been a slow, gradual, lack of style and setting the bar high that has been going on for years. They keep taking things away and not replacing them with something comparable. There has been a real lack of vision as time goes by. There's no streamlining of their brand. How do you start Showstoppers (Which tends to skew towards an older, no party crowd) and that incongruous shuffleboard area (Which NO ONE ever uses) at the same time? Who is your market? They have removed a ton of the slot machines, where there is now a lot of bare space. There's been a slow removal of table games. Have you noticed the Sinatra Smash comes in a smaller glass now? I have always loved the rooms, but now when we stay there, we enjoy our room, hit the european pool and eat at Wynn buffet....then we leave the property. Nothing to keep us hanging there.

Encore has become kind of inert, in terms of atmosphere and brand. They keep stripping things out, but not adding things of comparable appeal.

I'd like a classic stand-up comedy show, like the late, great Rodney Dangerfield.

Mike E, Excellent post ~ spot on. I actually love the rooms at Encore but they care more about the clubbers than the players & everyone else. I guess when people are paying $500 for a $25 bottle of Goose, that will continue to get their attention but I miss the days & nights where you can sleep without hearing the bass until 4 am. It may be catching up to them though
